It was my 2nd time staying here. Quite new place and clean, staffs are helpful too. I had booked a queen size bed, my friend’s was a king size bed room. Differences will be king size bed look has an extra small fridge and slightly bigger space and bed. (Really slightly bigger). Location wise, 15-20 mins to Georgetown, can refer to google map for food location. Pinang peranakan mansion is a pretty good historical place to go. Other than that, not recommend to go to museums (very lame and ticket is very expensive). Please do check the opening hours as some of the places were closed due to MCO/RMCO. Most of the locations are nearby (walking distance 5-10 mins) but you are recommended to drive cause it is super duper hot! Also, remember to download the Penang parking app if you are driving because the clamping is everywhere in town til 6pm is I’m not mistaken. Likewise, you can go to Karpal Singh for a night walk, for now it is open until 12am only btw. Recommend to try Penang laksa, 鸭蛋炒粿条，福建面, Nyonya kuihs and kopi peng is a must too. Basically all the food and drinks in Penang is very good 10/10. Hehe. Add on, 20-30 mins to Penang hill. 3-5 mins. Very hot, don’t get con by those photo taking asking for RM5/10, not really worth the money. Remember to bring your IC and travel/working visa so that you’re entitled for 2ways ticket of RM12, normal price is RM40 (if I’m not mistaken, go to the main door there will be board showing the exact price ok). If you have time, can go to Butterworth or Bukit Mertajam anyway. More food! 😋 if it’s 3D2N, staying in town will be better so that you won’t waste much time at travelling from a place to another place. Last thing I could remember, nearby this hotel, down the road there is one dimsum shop (美食之家), very long queue, can go earlier. If can wake up early, more choices in town or Butterworth will be a better choice. Convenience stores down the road as well. 👍🏻

I have been traveling to Penang for about 4 times this year and I never consider any other hotel but only U hotel is on my mind. The hotel really gives you the "home away from home" kind of feeling. My stay has always be well taken care of by the hotel staffs, namely Naz, Iman, Sugen and Stefenie. During this trip, I misplaced my key card and according to hotel regulation, I was supposed to pay for the replacement. Iman was handling the case but to my surprise, someone found my key card and return it to the hotel. I really appreciate Iman 's honesty that he told me that I was lucky because someone found my key card and I do not have to pay for the replacement. This is the kind of working relationship that I respect very much. For all future stay in Penang, I need not have to consider anywhere but only U hotel is where I will stay. Second time”

First time I stayed in the twin bed room, this time in the king size bed room. The room is clean, and the bed comfortable. The rooms in U Hotel isn't very big for people who need to move around especially not suitable for wheelchair users. The bathroom is wonderful. No bathtub just straight forward shower. Toiletries provided. There's also a hairdryer, 2 bottled water, coffee/tea stuff. The parking space is ample. Food choices around the hotel is great. There's the cafe/bakery next to the hotel. 10% off for hotel guests. There's foodcourt at Tesco Extra, lots of Chinese restaurants, Mcdonalds, Pizzahut, Baskin Robbins, KFC, Arab food at nearby shoplots (walking distance 3-5 minutes). You can take Grab or bus from in front of the hotel. USM is 3 minutes away, Komtar is 10 minutes, airport about 15 minutes. To note there's a RM100 deposit when you check in and an extra RM2 per day hotel tax eventhough you've paid full through Agoda. And there's no refund if you check out early.

Value for money for a short stay”

We came into Penang for a short trip over Christmas, and as we would be spending almost the whole day out of the room either exploring Penang or at our relative's home, this hotel was the perfect place for a comfortable night's sleep. Location was perfect as it wasn't too far from town. The rooms and bathroom were small but expected for a boutique hotel. Prices were relatively cheaper than bigger hotels due to the festive season. Sufficient parking behind the hotel. There is a lovely bakery downstairs should you need breakfast. Other basic amenities were provided in the room. Cleanliness satisfactory, especially for the bathroom. Overall, an ideal place to stay for those not looking for a full fledged hotel in Penang and for those who'd like to save a little money while still getting a clean and nice room!

Had a wonderful 4 nights stay at U Hotel Penang. The room condition was good, shower and bathroom was great, but must remember to book a deluxe king room if you are a light sleeper like me. Deluxe king room is facing the back of the hotel so you won't be disturbed by the noises on the main road. Overall satisfied with this boutique hotel. Will revisit in future!

My stay at U Hotel was a meaningful one! Staff are very friendly and helpful, location is very strategic; easy access to lots of dining places, self-service laundrette, Tesco, convenience store etc. ATM machines are everywhere. Food is super nice. Night market is every Saturday, along the road opposite the hotel. Hotel rooms are comfy but not spacious. I booked a room with 2 single beds, room is very tiny and space is limited. No mini bar in the room. Everything else is fine. I am madly in love with every decoration the hotel has. I will surely come again!

Exceptional”

Location is good, Tesco is just few steps from the hotel, a lot of eateries around the hotel. Front staff are in good manner, I found out that the room air con was not working properly, they help me to change to another room immediately. But the price is slightly higher if compare to hotels in another area of Penang.

Comfy hotel near airport”

Clean hotel. It takes 15mnts to the airport. Beside the hotel there’s a supermarket, you also can find eatery there. near to queensbay mall (where the Penang marathon start and finish as well). In front of hotel there’s Saturday night market, so you can go for walk to look around and buy anything you like (mostly Chinese food)

If you are looking for a clean and a nice hotel with low budget than u hotel will be the choice. However the wifi here is super slow and wont work most of the time.please bring your own mobile data if you are travelling and depends alot on google for local info. Other than the wifi issue The hotel has a strict non smoking policy which is great for family and kids.highly recommended for families because very near to airport and various choices of food in walking distances.

Since I'm on budget when I visit my girlfriend in Penang, this hotel suits all of our needs, since it has good water pressure (lower floor), good parking place, near to my girlfriend's working place. Been here for more than 4 times i think, the aircon was not functioning well in our room on our last visit.

Superb Hipster Theme Hotel”

A very-very nice hotel. Very close to USM Penang. Very close to shop lots. Room is very hipster and unique. Nice and clean. Comfortable bed and nice bathroom. Highly recommended to all (solo and couple traveler). Maybe not too comfortable for big family. Otherwise highly recommended.

If you are looking for cozy, clean, not smelly, friendly, good location...this is the hotel... But, the room is relatively small, just nice for rest & sleep... Having said that, U-Hotel Management should take a look at bathroom drain port. The water is not able to drain fast enough... Other than that, everything is OK..no complain..just compliments!!

What's great about the hotel? *ample parking space behind the hotel *a restaurant cum bakery next to it *1 minute walking distance to Tesco Extra. *if you walk to the left, about 3 minutes...you'd find a shoplot with Pizza, McDonalds and further up on the opposite side, KFC and an Arabic cuisine restaurant. *there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel *USM is 6 minutes away on the same route *the whole atmosphere is clean and chill, no loud noises What you should be aware of... *no refrigerator *room space is cosy (ie small), not enough for people with loads of luggage like us *ironing room is provided * toiletries (toothbrush, cotton bud, shower cap) provided * tv limited channel, you do get the WB channel *not suitable for elderly/persons with difficulty in using stairs or need space for wheelchair. there is a small side ramp near the hotel, but the room itself is not comfortable for wheelchair users in general

Second time stay”

The rooms are perfect for people who do not need big space to move around. Last time I had the twin single bed and this time the king size bed. The beds are very comfortable, the room very clean, the bathroom wonderful. No bathtub though fyi. The parking space behind the hotel is great. Tesco Extra is 1 minute walk. There's a cafe downstairs with a bakery. Hotel guests get 10% off and can even order it delivered to the room. Wifi is iffy. The tv keeps getting stuck...more because of the Hypptv/reception rather than the actual television. You can get Grab and bus right in front of the hotel. Complementary toothbrush and such toiletries are provided. No shaver and iron though. There's an ironing room. Lights pretty dim, so sleeping is good, writing not so much. You can walk to nearby shoplots where you can find Mcdonalds, Pizzahut, Baskin Robbins, and a bit further away is KFC and an arabic food restaurant. It's about 10 minutes from Komtar area by car but only 3 minutes to USM.

I love the pillows in this hotel. The location was great because there are many food joints within walking distance and easily accessible to many parts of Penang Island. The room is clean and the staff are friendly too.

This hotel suitable for business traveler, since free wifi was at high speed connection and comfy simple working-desk. The location near the bus stop so it's easy to reach to many destination in Penang by this public transportation. Also the staff very smart and helpful.

The Malay reception upon our check in was very professional, courteous and polite. There were dedicated parking space for in house guest, we are provided a complimentary parking card. Parking hassle free...thumbs up for that Room were superb good with afforadable price. Room is well kept and maintained cleanliness. We had a pleasant stay and looks like its gonna be our favourite hotel after this everytime we are in Island. Thank you to the staff and management for understanding customer's need and made our stay a memorable ones. Lift is provided so not a probelm for elderly..

For those who opt for a stay for the night after travelling around the area/Penang, it is very recommended. Not for those who want to have leisure hotel experience though, as the walls are not as soundprooofed so you will hear noises from either the traffic or other guests. Plus this hotel doesnt have pool or restaurant. However, there are a lot of place to eat nearby such as fast food chains like Pizza Hut, McDonalds, KFC, Subway, restaurants of many delicacies such as Pelita Nasi Kandar, Tarim (Arabic food) and various Chinese food courts Tesco too. All in all, it a nice hotel to stay for for some rest after travelling.
