Ultra friendly owner, Super Clean, Bang for Bucks”

This is a lovely little guesthouse in central George Town. I am Solo Traveller from KL, initially the booking for this hotel just for two nights, i spent a great time in Stewart Houze, I ended up staying in Stewart Houze for two weeks. If you want to try to Japanese Style Accomodation - Capsule Dorm. Dont hestitate, go Stewart Houze, the capsule style with super single bed size is extraordinary, ONE and ONLY in PENANG. It is clean,the air-conditioning in the sleeping area was cold enough to make you sleep like heaven Wake like angel. The toilets are equipped with Water Heater and the water pressure is really strong, and the maid will clean twice a day, no doubt, it is really clean and tidy. Most importantly it is inexpensive place, surrounding by good food (Red Garden cafe, some little small pub and cozy cafe), just 1 minutes walk to Lebuh Culia and Carnavon Street and there was alot of food to eat. My Personal Experience: I really like the Stewart Houze home stay style guest house, it was everything i want when i travel alone, the owner taking care me extremely well. My car was broke down in somewhere in georgetown, i briefly describe the location of where my car was broke down, he came to me and accompany me until the Toll Car to toll my car away for "big surgery". I made alots of friends here, I invited some couples from Netherlands and Germany and a solo travellers from Japan to go out for dinner and drinks. They all say the same thing, the guest house is really clean and tidy and owner is super friendly. I am a talkative person and like to make friends, one day i at least spent 1 hour in conversation with the owner, he would recommend you where to eat, where to hang out, which bus to take, he will show you the map, everything to make you feel like home. Therefore, in conclusion i conclude few of them are really enjoying the period of staying in this guest house. Simply Amazing. I definitely will come back and stay on next visit.

Top notch on all fronts”

Excellent place if you are looking for a place in the heart of historic Georgetown and you want a comfortable bed and a good sleep. The owners welcomed me with open arms and I almost felt like a member of family. I had been there once before and decided I wanted to go back to a place where I knew I would be welcome and have an excellent experience. The next time I go to Penang, Thirty Three Stewart Houze will be at the top of my list -- my guesthouse of choice. (NO, they did NOT pay me to write this!)

Great owners made our stay super”

At first we think that we stay just three day at Penang. Guesthouse and old city was wonderfull so we ended up to stay there eight nights. Place have very warm and cozy atmosphere, thanks to friendly owners. Room and shared bathroom were clean. Breakfast was toast and coffee. They had delicious local jam kaya which was hand made. Owners help us find very good streetfood and every day they help us to discovered their amazing home island. We highly recommend 33 Stewart Houze Guest house.

Staff work hard to please guests, Great Location.”

Nestled on a side street in the heart of the Unesco World Heritage area, Thirty Three Stewart Houze was a gem of a find. The staff, a husband and wife team, work very hard to make sure that all the guests are taken care of. We arrived early, expecting to stow our luggage and come and check in later, but they had our room ready to go. They took the time to share with us some history of the area and showed us some interesting tidbits of info of the types of food and sights. For the value of the place it was definitely worth it. Highly recommended.

Excellent”

"Walk gently" on those hard-wood stairways and floors. If creaks, light rumblings, and the ambient sounds of storied old-colonial-buildings are bothersome to you, this place isn't for you. 33 Stewart Houze lies in the heart of Georgetown's Old-Town Heritage Site. The "Houze" is a short walk to almost anything you'll need, but not so convenient that you're underneath it all. A vibrant night-life is there, and handy if you want it. Owners Yam and Julia and their small staff couldn't be more attentive, pleasant, or helpful. Guests are a nice mix of solo travelers, couples, groups, and families from virtually everywhere. Business is good, yet the place never feels crowded. I've lodged at the "Houze" several times and not once have I heard a cross word from anyone. At check in, you'll pay a 20-MR refundable key deposit, plus a 6-MR tax. The building and facilities have been modernized where needed. Showers and toilets are plentiful and clean. Towels are provided. Cubicles and rooms (I've stayed in both) are big enough for the purpose. Beds are smallish but sanitary and comfortable. Lighting and electrical outlets are ample. Wifi is more than adequate. AC is efficient and quiet. Key: Everything is maintained and works. The self-serve breakfast consists of oatmeal and/or toast (and sometimes fresh fruit), plus SE Asian style margarine, Malaysian kaya and Western style jams. Sugar, condensed milk, coffee, etc. is also provided. (Clean up after yourself). Hot and cold (drinking) water is free and available 24-hours. A fridge contains for-sale items (including beer). Advice: ATMs in Penang can be very nit-picky and aren't found on every corner as they are in Thailand. Collect your Ringgits (MRs) on arrival at the airport. Convert them back (including change) on departure. Getting around: I've used the bus, taxis, and Uber. They are all fine and reasonable, depending on how much you wish to pay, and how quick you want to get where you're going.

Very homey; We loved Stewart Houze!”

We booked a double bed in a dorm room. I was a bit apprehensive about the setup, but once we were settled, we were delighted with our accommodations. Great hosts, first rate WiFi, very comfortable bed -- there is nothing more our hosts could have done to make us feel at home. When you come to Georgetown, be sure to give serious consideration to this Stewart Houze Guest House. I recommend it.

A new experience to cubicle bedroom”

I really enjoyed my stay at the Thirty Three Stewart Houze Guest House. It is my first stay in a cubicle bedroom and I like this experience. The room/bed are well arranged and prepared, the overall atmosphere was excellent. The staff are available whenever you need them, offering friendly help when asked to. I highly recommend this place if you are a solo traveller.

Very pleasant stay. The owners were very friendly and helpful, always recommending us places to go and good food to eat. The room was pretty clean and the toilets too. We stayed in the 6 'capsule-like' beds dorm. You might think it might be warm inside, but it's actually pretty cooling once you turned on the ventilation fan. In terms of noise, might hear abit of footsteps from the upper floor and from the bar behind the hostel, but ain't really that bad. The guesthouse is surrounded by interesting cafes and street art so yea, cafe hopping was a breeze. We really love the guesthouse a lot and will defintiely visit 33 Stewart Houze again!!

Most friendly hosts I've met”

We were welcome with the warmest and most helpful hosts. Ask them for tips on where to go, eat, and play in Penang because they know best! The rooms are comfortable and air-conditioned, and the bathrooms are clean and have hot water! Not to mention the guest house is located in the heart of Georgetown, near Little India and very close to the famous street art exhibits. Best budget accommodation one could ask for.

I really enjoy my stay at the thirty three, didn't want to leave at all. The room was very nice, staff are nice, Location are perfect and i really love the community and my roommate. :D Sooo recommended place to stay in Penang.

Great hostel in quiet area close to everything in Georgetown”

Everything about my stay was excellent, and the staff was extremely helpful with my off-time check-in, booking activities and transport, and were always very friendly. The area was quiet and was much nicer than the party hostel atmosphere of most other places I passed by or had friends stay in. Breakfast is basic but is great to have some toast, jam, and coffee before heading out in the morning. There is a nice porch area to hang out, use your computer, or read with a fan overhead, and the dorms were very quiet and clean. The bathrooms are basic yet clean, and there are no toiletries provided, but for the price I did not expect anything more. I have to say that having the "cubby" style beds in the wall are way better than the typical squeaky bunk-beds, and the curtain for privacy was nice. The A/C kept the rooms nice and cool, but the beds can sometimes get a little warm when you keep the curtain closed all day. The bed was one of the more comfortable that i've had on my trip I stayed here on my return trip to Penang as well and would definitely recommend it to any travelers stopping through Georgetown!

Clean, best location, helpful staff, great value for money!”

Great place to stay in George Town Penang, just a minute away from love lane the night life street, and still quiet. You get a bed in a private space with proper mattress and sheets, that are much more comfy than what you usually get in these kind of places. Common bathrooms are clean! Staff is helpful and genuinely kind. Everything is well thought of and you'll get your personal electrical plug nearby your bed plus an individual fan, in case you feel like air con is not enough. I ended up extending my stay for 3 more nights over there. Just be aware there is no common living space, just 4 tables and chairs at the entrance of the guest house. Wi-fi everywhere. I highly recommend it! So cheap for what you get!

AMAZING”

We stayed here two nights and book again for a third night. It is centrally located, easy to find, has a very nice staff and breakfast is served in the morning. The staff will help with anything from restaurant reviews to transportation. They are very kind and always attentive. We had a air conditioned double room that was perfect. The showers were very good and the maid cleaned twice a day. This place was great. Even had an upstairs place to chill and relax. We will definitely be coming back to this great guest house. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Superb guest house”

Fantastic. This guest house truly feels like home. Their dormitory room doesn't feel like the typical dorm rooms where you won't have privacy. Help is readily available from the owners and staff when you need it. Looking forward to staying in this place again on my next visit to Penang! :)

Exceptional”

I had a great stay at Thirty Three, even extended it for an extra night. My biggest complaint is that the wifi is really awful. Some positives, however, is that they have universal plugs, and you can book just about anything at the front desk. Owners are super nice!

Nice, centrally located hotel with budge prices”

The guest house is great and should get good reviews. Something that I experienced that hadn't been commented on is that the rooms seem to have pretty thin walls so you can hear everything that is going on outside your room. Thankfully, the place seems to attract low-key guests but I could see this being a problem if there were some guest who where late night socialites.

The place is at the heart of Georgetown. You won't have a heard time when you want to see the street art before all the tourists flock. The guest house is owned and managed by a very nice uncle. He is very helpful and felt like home.

Recommend! ”

Really nice hostel. The sleeping capsule promise a good sleep and lots of privacy for everyone. Really nice showers and always clean. The staff is very friendly too. Maybe not too social, but the tipsy Tiger party hostel is just across from Steward Houze. So if you want to socialize and party, but still get decent sleep, stay here!

Out Of the Way But Near Everything”

The guest house run by Yam and his wife was great. Next to everything in the center of Georgetown but away from the noise and nightlife of Love St. Easy to rest, comfortable beds and free breakfast made it complete for us.
