Well Located, Clean and Comfortable”

I recently stayed 3 nights at the Southern Boutique Hotel. It's a very new hotel, so it is very fresh and clean. The bed was very comfortable, which is a big plus for me. The room was very small, but for one person it was adequate. There is no bar fridge in the room, but just along the hallway is a facility for making tea, coffee and hot chocolate, plus refill water bottles. There is also a communal ironing board and iron to use. So really I didn't need these things in the room. The location is great--just around the corner is the famous Line Clear Nasi Kandar restaurant, which I went to several times. Also, the Red Garden food court which is open in the evenings was just around the corner in Leith Street. I really liked it here, for the money I think it is great value. In fact I've got to go to Penang again in March and have rebooked the same room.

Wonderful stay at Southern, Value for money”

My husband and I had a lovely time staying at Southern Boutique Hotel! Pro: - good location- within walking distance (no more than 15mins) to the Esplanade, Goddess of Mercy temple, Little India, great eateries at Lebuh Campbell. - near a hawker centre that has many many local food stalls (just round the corner) - there are also some cool cafes like Daily Dose which serves nice food - hotel is very clean and staff are helpful - there's hot and cold water dispenser available at common area which is great as we can make our own coffee and tea without a mess in our room Con: - maybe a bit too near the hawker centre as there were some really bad karaoke singing at night. The hotel helpfully provided earplugs but we didn't really need since we're not light sleepers - a bit far from the famous streets where the street arts are located (bit it's ok for us since we enjoy walking) - no lift. We were on second floor so may be difficult for those with mobility issue or heavy luggages.

Great location, stone throw away to many attractions ”

The Southern Boutique Hotel is new, bright & clean in a refurbished vintage building. Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Although the room is small, it’s very cozy and sufficient enough for a good rest. Sound proof is not strong, thus it might get abit noisy at times. There’s no kettle in the room but they do have water dispenser at the lobby. Enjoyed the white coffee and peach tea from the coffee machine. There’s a nice tokyo yakitori nearby which serves nice yakitori but they take quite some time to cook your food. Tai Tong restaurant is just about 10min walk away, they serve good dim sums and roasted chicken! Overall, everything is good except for the WiFi connection which becomes very slow and unstable from evening onwards. Would recommend future visitors to check with the hotel staff and I do hope that they improve on this because we forgot to feedback to them.

spent a night over at the southern Boutique hotel. Check in was a breeze, receptionist on duty was an indian lady who was very friendly and helpful. She shared with me information on the nice food around the area. The room was smaller that i though, however i travelled alone and that was fine. I personally feels that the room could do with some refurbishment, as there was stains mark on the wall and the shower head was not in working condition. Overall, its not bad for a few nights of stay!

I booked a queen bed for two nights. The room is like a small box, maximum up to 2 person in the room, cannot be more. There will be a toilet behind your bed, separated by glass. However, the cleanliness of the room is great. Plus, the facilities are all sufficient. The staffs at the front desk are friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is okay, walking distance to famous spots around Georgetown (if you dont mind to walk in the day since Penang weather is very hot) but too noisy at night since it is situated next to the main road. Thus, expect the roadway noises.

Centrally located”

This boutique hotel is located within stone-throw from museums, cafes and local food. It’s a small 2 storey hotel with basic amenities (hairdryer,body soap, free wifi). Only thing to highlight is that the ground floor rooms have additional doors leading to the corridor outside hotel. While the hotel did install cctv cameras, we did have to check every night if the door was locked as we were uncomfortable with it. Noise level was alright but there were occasional noises of people walking and talking along the outside corridor.

Convenient and Fuss Free”

If you're planning for a city tour in the heart of Penang, this is one most recommended from a hassle-free, convenient and nice boutique hotel freak like myself. Convenient - getting around is a breeze, aside from Grab, is merely walking distance around the neighbourhood. Facilities - basic need, not much to complain Room - aside from the main road noise, there's nothing much to complain but he beauty of it. Cleanliness - is clean

Strategic location, good choice for short stay”

It was a last minute plan to go to Penang and the hotels are almost fully booked that week. This is a refurnished hotel (it was an old building). If your main visiting places are around Georgetown and you are here just for 3 days or less stay, this is a good choice as it is close to most of the tourist spots in Georgetown (some are even within walking distance). The location is next to Cititel Premier (not Cititel Express) and there is a convenient store next to the hotel so if you need any toiletries/drinks can just top up. If yo do not drive, can just use Uber or Grab. For facilities, it is much lacking, just a basic place for you to sleep. In conclusion it is value for money stay.

Awesome staff”

The reception guy was very helpful and friendly. Inner design bright enough. Behind have a foodcourt convienence to buy supper, near to chulia street just 5mins walk. Overall this is my first time to write a review for a hotel, really an excellent hotel. If I go penang will back to this hotel again.

Amazing Gem in George Town!”

We have stayed at The Southere Boutique Hotel 3 times so far, and we will continue to return as it is one of the loveliest places we have stayed in. overall this hotel is clean,nice, beautiful,the environtment look like english style,at first i just booked 1 night, but i extand another 1 night. maybe after this when i go to penang, i will stay again at The Southern Boutique Hotel.

Small and compact. Right in the middle of Georgetown ”

This hotel is small and compact and located right in the middle of Georgetown. There are plenty of food option around the hotel. Good place to stay if you just need a clean place to leave your luggage and sleep and spend most of your time discovering Georgetown. WIFI here is REALLY bad. Very often I have to resort to using my own data on roaming.

The Southern Boutique Hotel is a simple & basic hotel. No amenities are provided. Hotel room and lobby are clean and location is near the heart of Georgetown and night spots.

Pleasant stay ”

Stayed for a night - everything was pleasant. The only issue was the parking. They do not have car parks at the hotel itself. Instead, they have a few allocated parking lots at an opposite parking area - which was full during our stay. The alternative, which I did, was to park at the public parking lots along the road which isn't always available as it is obviously Penang. So if you are driving, here's a heads up - please just check with them on this before making your travel.

Best Location ”

Hotel is clean and comfortable for a short getaway around Georgetown. The cheapest room, please expect small room. Can fit 2 person only. If have baby or kid, please opt for other room. Have rooftop balcony, suitable for having breakfast or light meals there.

Pros Nice decor, very modern, fairly clean. Outdoor area is really nice to sit in when its not too hot. The free water is amazing. Coffee machine Cons Rooms are very small ( but we knew they would be, it suited us) shower curtain had some mould stains Bed was not amazingly comfy It was a little noisy at night We would stay again, it is what it is, the location is premium for exploring Georgetown on foot.

Quite friendly for smoker”

This hotel location is perfect for us in Georgetown area. We can walk to the famous murals in the old town. The room is a bit small but comfy for sleep. There is a terrace in the hotel in second floor for smoking area. White coffee and chocolates for drink is available for free (by machine). Water also free so please prepare your own bottle. Staff were friendly. If you want to go a bit far, you can order grab car (online taxis) from the hotel using their free wifi.

best design, small & attractive hotel”

Best location in George Town, near almost to all recommended street food is within walking distance, such as Chulia, Campbell, etc. Also next door there's a convenience store that opens 24/7. Supporting staff, nice and clean room. We stay at the room outside but absolutely quiet. Highly recommend. Also try free coffee and waterin common area. Will back to this hotel if we back to Penang...cheers

Really liked the rooms and the design of the hotel though it is on the small side. Walkable to famous food stalls and pretty near to attractions. Rooms are very clean as well. Will definitely stay here again when in penang
