A lovely Boutique Hotel in an upmarket neighborhood ! ”
I spent one night at the Residence on transit out of Johannesburg which was a charming experience. As a solo traveller I always prefer to stay in a 5 star hotel chain which I did on arrival into J’burg but decided to experiment the Residence simply due to the high recommendation & reviews read on the travel sites ! Loved the intimacy & romance of the property with top notch five star service. My personal view is it’s over the top, loud & ostentatious.... Nevertheless it doesn’t take off the comfort, plush surroundings & the serenity.

Pure Luxury”
The Residence is a magnificent retreat that pampers every sense. Every detail is painstakingly attended to, from the appointments in each room (and I experienced two different rooms) to the care of the staff to the facilities and the food. The only area that needs improvement is the on site workout room--though that also is addressed as The Residence has a relationship with a full service gym nearby. No visit to Johannesburg will feel complete without a stay at The Residence.

A Lovely Surprise”
A beautiful oasis in Johannesburg. I didn't visit their website before purchasing our room for two nights here. I believe that I saw that it was #1 on Trip Advisor, though, and now I understand why they have a top rating! The owners thought of everything to make your stay a special one. They obviously train their staff to make sure you feel as though you are the only guests there. I won't go on and on about the details because others have described it, and I don't want to ruin your surprises. Just suffice it to say that you will not be disappointed, and will feel that you have been cared for in the most special way while you are at The Residence.

Absolute paradise ”
This is our third time staying at residence and every time gets better and better . No other hotel can touch the residence experience . It's plush , decadent and food of a Michelin star rating it's an absolute must for any traveller arriving or leaving Johannesburg. Warren and his staff make every person feel as if they are the most important person there and we look forward to heading back in april

We didn’t want to leave”
So glad we booked our stay in Johannesburg at the residence. The security around the hotel makes you feel safe, we had been warned about the high crime in the region. The room was just perfect, I wish I had more time to enjoy the pools and spa facilities but we only had one night. The food at the restaurant was amazing and the breakfast was deluxe. All the staff are professional and very helpful. I honestly can’t fault anything at all. Very relaxing stay.

Very nice Boutique Hotel”
We stayed at The Residence for one night, on our way back home. The luxury room is rather large and has even a small internal court where one can opt for an outside shower. The breakfast is copious and the staff is extremely helpful and nice, in a non-intrusive way. The common parts of the hotel are charming as well. They even organized for us for an half day tour by car with "Ramoon tours and transfers" which is a must if you want to visit Johannesburg properly.

Fantastic Hotel with excellent service”
I was warmly welcomed by all the staff, who made my stay a pleasure throughout. The hotel has lots of quiet corners to sit with a book, and the rooms are very well equipped. The private areas outside the room made it possible to relax after a busy day, and the complimentary soft drinks in the minibar were great. The bar and dining areas had roaring fires to take off the Johannesburg chill, and the meals were all delicious. Overall, a perfect place for a few days.

Best Hotel I've Ever Stayed”
This hotel by aesthetics alone is amazing, but the experience is what sells. From the moment you walk through the door the goal is to make you feel at home. Moses guided us on a tour of the hotel and we fell in love. The Residence have thought about everything before you arrive. The multiple lounge rooms give a space to retreat from your room. The koi fish are beautiful and give ambience while you are dining. There are multiple complimentary drink stations throughout the hotel and a "cake of the day" for your sweet tooth. The spa services and Thuli and Queen were amazing. The room itself was great! Had a jacuzzi, walk in closet, beautiful balcony with a view of the pool and garden, and a surround sound music system with peaceful music playing. But I will never forget when I asked for late checkout (flight departed at 925pm) and they said "no problem, just stay in your room until you are ready to leave." I was shocked!I will always come back to The Residence when I'm in South Africa.

Style, Class and Good Old fashioned Service with a Smile”
This hotel exceeded my expectations. the staff were genuinely pleased to see us, the facilities excellent, the bar, restaurant and common areas sophisticated and elegant. A hotel that I would rate at the top of my list. Nothing was too difficult and will be my 1st choice when next in Johannesburg.

Madiba Suite - huge outdoor terrace and hot tub ”
The hotel photos simply do not do the hotel and Madiba Suite justice. From opening the door to the suite you are welcomed with a decanter of sherry kindly sat waiting for you in the suite reception area. You then pass the complimentary mini bar and the old lift which now fashions itself as a library and enter the bedroom. The pristine white sheets draped in rose petals momentarily distracts your eye from the complimentary bottle of bubbles and night time amarula. Stepping into the bathroom, the stand alone bath, his and hers wash basins and large shower are impressive but nothing compared to what waits outside. The large outdoor terrace with its ample seating, hot tub, outdoor shower and canopy day bed would put many beach clubs to shame. All this having walked through the grounds and buildings of the former Chinese embassy with the koi carp, water features and Asian plants throughout paying homage to the residences former occupants. Well worth a visit

Wife's birthday gift”
We visited for one night to celebrate my wife's birthday and stayed in the suite with the private jacuzzi. The place is beautiful and the room is huge! Every luxury was there and in its place, including a complimentary birthday cake for two and some bubbly on arrival! A tranquil and beautiful facility that makes it easy to forget that you're in the city. Friendly and professional, I cannot fault anything. Thank you to The Residence. Facilities in this room include a Nespresso machine with some complimentary capsules, a gas fireplace as well as air conditioner, sun room/lounge, deck with jacuzzi and sun loungers and a table with seating for two, outside (private) showers, walk-in cupboards, and a sound system that has speakers in the room, bathroom and at the jacuzzi.

The Service we received from the moment we stepped into the residence is exceptional from Warren the manager who greets you & and checks you in to Samantha who I spoke to multiple times while making my reservations and after making my reservations before arriving with such patience, Grace, and knowledge to Marvin our tour guide who did a fantastic job in giving us the history and the details of the city. Service and facilities are exceptional”
They have tried to go beyond exceptional service and I must say the staff in the hotel have achieved their goal. With my role in the business I need to travel extensively and I am in a fortunate position to stay in some very nice places. The Residence however has simply made the travelling on this occasion not as tedious as my business trips usually are. I can see the hotel being particularly interesting to couples looking for a romantic time away from home but I can also suggest the business traveller stay here. All of central JoBurg is quite close by and with Lucky driving you around in the Rolls, it adds something special to the day. Bravo to the Residence.

Stunning experience, luxurious and boutique”
Our stay at The Residence for a couples' weekend away had all the ingredients of a truly amazing stay. Personal attention from the host and all hotel staff, an amazing suite and a beautiful hotel. Drinks were served in the piano lounge before being seated for a sumptuous dinner and again, personal attention. Not once were we asked from which room we were during our entire stay, other than at check-in. Later in the weekend we were treated to a couples spa treatment package which were worldclass and performed by skilled and friendly therapists. Well worth visiting

Good enough to be true!”
Our stay at The Residence exceeded our expectations in every way. From our pick up at the airport in a Rolls-Royce to the staff greeting upon arrival, to the incredible ambience and service, this is a hotel not to be missed! The staff anticipated our needs before we needed to ask for anything. Breakfast was wonderful served in our suite and dinners were excellent sitting in the dining room by the fireplace. We can't say enough about this hotel and we will be back next time in Joburg!

Superb boutique hotel in an upscale neighbourhood”
we were upgraded to their penthouse suite, so that got our stay of to a great start. it is a fantastic top-floor suite with a massive deck and an outdoor shower and tub. the hotel provided complimentary transportation to a local restaurant. on-site amenities are stylish, staff were discreet and well-trained. grounds are wonderful, with two pools, tennis court and lovely sitting areas. hotel is located in houghton estate, an upscale residential neighbourhood, very close to the nelson mandela residence and a short drive to both melrose arch and sandton. highly recommended for a getaway.

We stayed at the Residence as a respite between flying from London and traveling on to Zimbabwe and Botswana - and again on the return trip. The ambience of the hotel is calming, warm and welcoming. The management and staff are friendly and thoroughly professional. The quality and comfort of the rooms, the service and the food are truly worth their 5 Star rating.

Had a wonderful stay at The Residence Boutique. From the start, the service was top notch. We really appreciated the upgrade, had a lovely stay in a beautiful, spacious suite. The meals were excellent, good value, especially breakfast. Overall, would definitely come again, and recommend to anyone who appreciates a sumptuous boutique hotel experience.

Wonderful hotel and service”
We stayed here on a long layover in Jo'Burg which actually ended up being our anniversary. From the moment we got to the hotel, the service was incredible. The hotel itself is beautiful and the rooms are amazing especially for the price (large, comfy bed, jacuzzi tubs, etc.). Beyond that, they made an extra effort to make our anniversary special for us. The hotel is in a beautiful neighborhood. Nelson Mandela actually lives three blocks away. Google maps said the hotel is 45 minutes from the airport, but it only took us 20 to get there. We decided to stay in and eat dinner at the hotel and we were so glad we did! It was like having a personal chef. Everything we had was incredible, especially the bruschetta and chicken breast. We will definitely be staying there again the next time we are in Jo'burg.
