Fantastic place to stay !! ”

Great stay in nice warm comfortable bed.Had a good sleep in a quiet charming place.Enjoy the great view at the roof terrace garden. Good value for money as it has all for any traveller. Big nice kitchen and plenty of space for privacy.Good free WIfi network. Place is just minutes to city center and all the great cafes and shops especially to Pak n Sav and take-aways. Will definitely come back to stay for few more days and would highly recommended to anyone looking for place to stay in Dunedin. Kudos to the new management for taking great care of the place and making all guest feel at home.

I really liked this hostel! It's an older hostel, looks almost like a fort on the outside. There are many rooms inside for you to hang out in, including a TV room, two dining rooms, and a huge kitchen that is ACTUALLY clean. The room I was in (6 person dorm) had a massive balcony that connected with another room. The bed itself was comfortable, the room large, and everything was quiet at night which I really appreciate. Staff were nice, not overly so, but check in and out were extremely quick and easy. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend it for anyone! An easy walk into the city too, like 5 minute walk to the city centre!

This is a good hostel in a very nice old house in a quiet area. Large kitchen. A good option in Dunedin.

Very old hostel, comfortable but very quiet, only a handful of people staying. Room was heated, kitchen was big but way too many warning signs everywhere

Watzmann”

If you want to see what's the worst hostel, Stafford Gables is the best choice for you. The hostel is very cold and not clean. The host provides a heater, but the heater switch off every hour until next time you press the button. There is no hot water for shower between 10:00pm to 8:30am in the morning. The kitchen is as horrible as the staff. In one word, I would stay in McDonald's 24 hour restaurant instead of living in this hosts again.

Location is good. But room heating system is off after one hour from start. So room is pretty cold. Kitchen utensil also not enough to cook.

May not suitable for family with children”

Old hostel, no heater in shared bathroom. Good if you just need a bed to sleep. Not much parking inside the hostel. Heater in the room auto off after 1 hr.

Owner did not care when my shoes where stolen”

The hostel is old, dirty and not well equipped. The dining room is for max. 10 people (if they squeeze themselves in). Internet connection is almost not working, After my shoes were stolen I got no support from owner. He did not even listen to me. I asked the owner (and earwittneses assured me of this later) whether I can use the phone in his office. When he saw me using it, he screamed at me wondering what I am doing in his office. Unfriendly, rude, not supportive owner. I will never go there again.

Comfortable and quiet”

The room was quiet with little outside noise, the beds were comfortable and the showers good with plenty of hot water.

The family room was compact but comfortable enough for our group of three.

It was not clean there was rubbish in our room from other guests and bed linen was not fresh and clean very disappointing for the price it was. the toilets and showers did not have hot water until 8.30 am not good when you have to leave early and can not have a shower.

Disappointing ”

Disappointing as it advertises free wifi but this is only available in the front lobby, it also advertises free parking for cars but we had to park on the road, the room was tidy and the bed was comfortable but we had disturbed sleep due to other guests in the hostel the showers on the floor we stayed on were dirty and the water trickled out making it impossible to get washed properly, when we tried to report this there was no one around, we also got put on the top floor when we asked for a floor nearest to the ground fro medical reasons

Filthy, cold, no security. The hostel is being run as cheaply as possible by complete misers for whom you staying there is an imposition even though you are paying. Lots of kiwis down on their luck staying there (were all nice in my experience) but presumably WINZ was giving the owners money for emergency housing even though it wasn't fit to live in. Zero security on the building, front door always wide open and no keys for rooms (my room was permanently open by having a piece of clothing in the doorway and although a it was a very cold building there was an adapter with chinese writing on it which allowed the plug in heater to only be turned on for 30 min at time.

Just an ordinary backpacker”

Female shower have drainage problem. The water will overflowed during shower. Double room equipped with 2 heater. A plus for the cold weather.
