Where do I start? Tourist and diving is seasonal on the island. As soon as monsoon season starts, the whole island shuts down except for the caretakers that look after the properties while shuttered. My modest research did not disclose this, and neither did booking.com or our guesthouse website. My first choice for hotel was called Mimpi. When I searched that property on booking.com, it showed sold out. I then searched to find a few places available on the island and chose Seahorse Diving and guest Resort. Booking.com showed only two rooms left. Typical sales ploy of course. When we arrived, we found this hostel to have 20 to 30 rooms, all of which were unoccupied except for us. As far as Mimpi goes, and of course was not sold out at all, but rather shuttered for the season. There was literally nobody else on the island except for the local caretakers. How are food options daily at the hospital restaurant comprised of fried rice or fried noodles. They were very tasty though. To make things worse, transportation to the island is by water taxi, and they refuse to go to our side of the island because of the waves. We had to walk over the mountain about a kilometer with our two 18 kilo dive bags. Not a pleasant experience. I must take some responsibility for this failure, but must share it also with booking.com and especially with the owner of seahorse diving guesthouse. They should never be selling this property without proper services to its guests.

the staff was super nice and the location was great. the beach is amazing and the water was super nice.

we went here in November and did not know that during moonsoon season everything is closed. this was the only hotel open on the beach and only 1 restaurant was open. not what we expected but the staff and locals made our 2 day stay great anyway.

The property is right at the site of super loud DJ night parties till 3am. Great for party lovers but not so great if you want to sleep!

You can’t beat the location. Perfect place to enjoy the island. That’s the main perk about this hostel. The breakfast was delicious and there was a good variety. Friendly staff and the showers were nice and cold and powerful just what you needed after a hot day in the sun. Nice terrace too with hammock.

Very basic. No toilet roll, no wifi, no taps, no air conditioning but I think all the hostels on the island are the same so it was expected.

Awful place. Rooms are extremely basic and primative. Beds are basic and low quality. Walls are like cardboard. And worst is the music every single night from the bar outside the hotel on the beach. Not only do they play the worst music possible but they also play very loud until 3 am every day. Impossible to sleep unless you have head phones or ear buds. Would not recommend to anyone.

Amazing location, the balcony with the hammocks was our favourite hang out location! The views are incredible.

Unfortunately we booked on booking.com meaning our prices were VERY HIGH. The electricity cut from 10am-3pm everyday was tricky with a room with no windows. Also we seemed to have many ants in our belongings during the stay.

Right on the beach, room with your own bathroom, 3 nights with stable electricity and water supply.

Rooms are too spartan and bathroom can be done a lot better.

Could get abit noisy at night because of the bar right outside of the place, but if you're a party person, then it's not a problem.

Location. In the middle of Long Beach close to the nightlife area. Fire show and afterwards drinks by the bar in front of the hostel.

Hygiene. There was a smelly death rat on our sea view balcony. Price is very high in comparison to other private bedroom shared bathroom accommodations on long beach.

I like the view of the beach and its not far from all the facilities, stores.

I didn't like because the it's a bit pricey for a hotel like that. And they never stated that there were a pub in front of the hotel It was so loud and i couldn't sleep at all until 3 in the morning. A muslim selling alcohol and everything. I was shock that was allowed. It feels like i'm at oversea. That's so disapointing.

Fairly spartan, simple place but right on the main beach and with lovely staff to deal with. The location could be a mixed bag for some, the main party bar of the beach is right outside and rocks on until 2am or so most nights. That didn't bother me so much as I was partly there to enjoy myself, and also I didn't have one of the seaview rooms so I was shielded from the worst of it. I would imagine anyone who wanted an early start for diving though might get annoyed if they opted for a seaview room as they would cop the worst of it.

Nothing against this place in particular, but I think everywhere in Perhentian Kecil is a lot more pricey for lower quality than elsewhere in Malaysia. My overall trip included 5 places - KL, Ipoh, Kuala Terrenganu, Kota Bharu and here. Accom on Perhentian was by far and away the most expensive of the 5 but also the simplest and no-frills of the 5 as well. Like I said, i think that is true of everywhere in Perhentian so not a comment on this place in particular, more just something to be aware of for any trip across Malaysia.

The friendliest staff. They have time to chat which is very comforting. Breakfast is included which I didn't realise when I booked. The position on the beach is perfect. They have a lovely cool room/balcony on the first floor which is really useful when things get a bit hot around midday. Thank you Affif, Lisa and Mira!

the room smelled musty, there was no air conditioning, just old fans, and the room was really hot. The toilet was horrible, without toilet paper, someone left a bar of soap with hair. At night the mosquitoes devoured me, I came out with 30 bites. there are no mosquito nets. The only good thing about the room (private, double bed) was the sea view, but it cost more than 30 euros a night, totally out of place! I have slept in shared rooms much better than that
