A Grand Bed & Breakfast ”

Stayed at the Richmond Guest House over the new year with friends .a new experience for me as the wife and i normally stay in motels . but it came highly recommended by a regular guest there who told them all about the place and its; host Now I'm' ex military now a senior paramedic in the USA and i have seen some battered folk before , and let me tell you this man has been battered , you know what I'm saying, he don't' talk so good'. he don't' even walk so good and I'm told he don't even sit so good .and to top it all he is a little bit eccentric, but what he has got is a lot of guts and class to turn this old villa into such a fine bed and breakfast sir' it was a pleasure and we will return

A great base and great location to see Wellington”

We thought the location is excellent, in a very nice part of Wellington. The room was quite comfortable and had good heating. The staff we dealt with are great and very helpful. The breakfast is basic, but nice. You have breakfast with the guest house owner, so you do feel a bit monitored when you are in the dining room, having to ask for toast. There is tea and coffee anytime your like throughout the day. Recommend this place.

Ideal for city exploring ”

We'd stayed with John before, just the two of us , but this time our adult daughter came too. We had a large room with tea and coffee, microwave and fridge, and everything was super clean. The shower room was huge. If you want a room with character and a host with a sense of humour, Richmond House is the place.

Handy and good value”

Easy to find and a 8 minute walk from airport bus station to Guest house. Good kitchen area with possibility of cooking own lunches and dinner. great library with lots of good books to read. Rooms comfortable and ensuite works good. Its a friendly place and close to the central city. Enjoyed the stay. The guest house is an old style building but close to everything and good value for money. The way breakfast was served was very nice and made it seem more like a home setting.

Very good”

Richmond guest house is a clean place and we stayed there for one night. Breakfast was just variety of cereals and toast. I wasn’t happy about the front desk person, he was very rude and abrupt and not very helpful. Since we were there for one night, it didn’t bother me. We used the map to go around the places. The location is close to everything.

A good place to stay”

The location and not so expensive to stay. The owner was very nice and good to talk with. The selection of the breakfast could be better, for those who are going to stay for awhile. The only thing that I have to say about the condition of the rooms, is the smell inside. The air in the bedrooms could be better, because the smell inside the rooms, when opened was smell of a old furniture or carpet smell.As a tourist you expect to come into room that has a clean air inside. Otherwise it was very good to stay at Richmond.

Nicest place I have ever stay in New Zealand”

this b&b is the nicest place i had ever stayed in new zealand. (my trip has 21 days and visited many of towns in nz) 1. the host is extremely nice and friendly. nice to have chat with the host. 2. in room facilities is good as well. although the common room may displayed as a little bit old because of the antiques. 3. although it shows no car park available, you can also park outside the b&b and the host can provide the parking pass to you. 4. the location is tranquil, and can have a walk to wellington central for about 15-20 mins walk. better to have a car.

Very pleasant stay”

We arrived after 22 hours of travelling, were greated very friendly and give advice how to spend our time in Wellington after a short rest. We didn't need a car, only 15 minutes walk to the centre of town. As on every Thursday, the museum has long opening hours, we enjoyed that. After we came back, we slept like babies in the relaxed and quiet atmosphere and were greeted by a fresh breakfast and a nice talk with John, the owner. we could even walk to the car rental office and got some help from John again to park the car before leaving. Very nice start in New Zealand.

Comforts of home away from home”

Well after having such a fab' stay the first time i had to come back to the Richmond , it has to be one of the most relaxing bed and breakfasts that i have ever stayed at so comfy and clean and such a lovely and caring host. God bless

Great place and staff were awesome , i liked everything about the place, it is in perfect location for visiting Wellingtons night life,Very clean nice basic room with own lovely bathroom, overall i would definately recomend,

Good location for LOTR Fans”

Five minute walk to Mt Victoria where several of the scenes from Lord of the Rings movies were shot. LOTR Tour companies picked us up in front of our door and dropped us off there after. Within ten minutes walking distance of four star restaurants, fast food & beer. A fifteen minute walk gets you down to Courtenay Place, groceries, shopping, the waterfront and five-star restaurants. Completely walkable city and a great place to rest your head after a long day sightseeing!

Convenient B&B”

It is an older building but loving refurbished and very clean. John provides a simple breakfast of toast and cereal daily. If you just want to see Wellington city, everything is within walking distance.

Lovely Historic old house ”

wife and i loved this lovely historic old house with loads of old world charm with a great feel about it from the moment we first walked in , we had a comfortable nicely decorated room, very clean with pleasant and helpful staff, breakfast was simple but good, and an easy walk to town,as for the owner well he is definately one of a kind, ( a compliment) we will definately return

Value For Money”

Very close to Wellington CBD (or it is in CBD itself)... Good place to stay for a day or two. Must have been less expensive if i have booked earlier.

Well here i am again at one of the most pleasant and clean bed and breakfasts that i have ever stayed in, the host is so sweet, and caring,and the house itself has been so longingly restored and redecorated the rooms are nice and it is in such a great location

Everything was very nice. John's collection of antique furniture is wonderful. The beds were comfy and everything you need is either in your room or in the main house. Location is good, we were able to walk to and from the city quite easily.

Stayed three nights, very pleasant”

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is not right downtown and about a 10 minute walk to the street with all the bars and restaurants. This is a good thing, as downtown Wellington can get loud at night. It was an easy walk to the bars and an easy walk back, and when I got there, the room was comfortable and quiet. Also, this place pulls off the bed and breakfast thing without feeling like I am staying in someones personal house. It felt like a hotel, which is a good thing. I would probably stay here again.
