"Lanna Thai Villa is a beautiful Home Stay located in Thoeng District of Northern Thailand’s Chiang Rai Province. Owned and operated by gracious hosts Steve (native of Michigan, US) and Semsri (native of the Ban Salawat Village where Lanna Thai Villa is located). Steve, a somewhat native of this area himself (lived and worked in Thailand for close to 30 years) offers a variety of local tours covering the rural life of Northern Thai ethnic hill tribes of the area including a vast knowledge of their history and culture that cannot compare to any travel guide/resource around. And throw in a great sense of humor to make him a true one of a kind! Sermsri, is a wonderful cook that offers some of the best authentic Northern region Thai food you will ever eat. They offer the total package of family like hospitality, accommodation and cultural experience. Anyone contemplating a visit to the Chiang Rai area must book their stay to Lanna Thai Villa Home Stay–we promise you will not regret it!"

"Getting there was the hard part, as it is quite remote, and you have to take a local bus from Chiang Rai to a nearby town called Thoeng, pronounced T'eung. First of all, Chiang Rai bus station 1, where this bus can be found, has been turned into a construction site, so you need to enquire around to find the bus, and not many people understand English. Onwer Nuna was kind enough to meet me at the Thoeng bus station once I got there and things turned for the better at this point. The owners were having good friends at the bungalows that night, so we shared a nice turkey dinner and they made me feel part of the family. The next morning, we went for the sunrise hike to Mt. Phu Chi Fa, which was the highlight of my trip! Words cannot describe the beauty of that Sunrise, just see it for yourself! Things didn't end there, as we were also greeted later by a local hill tribe for a bbq meal and cultural dances in their small mountain village. It was memorable to see how these poeple live a simple and happy life! For my return to Chiang Rai, I opted for the owners to organize a private transfer for me. More expnsive, but at that point, quite worth it for ease of mind! The bungalows themselves are very nice and comfy. I really could have stayed there longer. The nature around is just beautiful, the perfect place to relax. "
