Warm Welcome”

Stayed in Palo Alto just last Jul 23. Very warm welcome from the staff when we checked-in. Got welcome drinks and receptionist was very accommodating and answered all our questions. Our room was upgraded and we were placed in a room just in front of the pool. She offered to do the reservation for us in KaLui and arranged our shuttle service going to the airport for our check-out. Only down thing is that they don't have wifi in their rooms, only in the lobby. A bit of a hassle going from your room to the lobby just to connect to their wifi. But this is no big deal for those who want to disconnect from the world for a while. Overall, quiet and beautiful place, accommodating staff and clean rooms. 9.5 out of 10. :)

I really enjoyed staying at Palo Alto. The staff was really friendly. The hotel is situated outside the city in a peaceful area, so we were away from all the noise of Puerto Princesa. It was such a relaxing stay in a beautiful area. Palo Alto provides free shuttle to the city for the dinner. We enjoyed also the pancakes for breakfast. Thank you, Palo Alto. Would stay again!

Clean, staff very good, great for the bus”

Situated to the north of the town. Ideal to get to the bus terminal in the morning really only 10 mins by van supplied by the hotel. Nice hotel, only downside being the size of the rooms (bit small) and as always in Philippines the bathroom a bit aged. Good for a stay over. The staff very good.

I stayed here for work but the place and facilities are good. The breakfast was splendid, I enjoyed my food. The staff are really good and accommodating. The room is clean and the aircon is cool. Too bad my star is short, I didn't try the pool but would love to come back. The bad side for this place is that it's very far from the city and you need to book your transportation when you go out or it will be hard. Thank you Palo Alto!

- Excellent rooms, size, layout - No chairs in room, no hooks in bathroom: easy to fix misses - Decent breakfast, NOT buffet - Good facilities and good decor in hotel - Total VFM stay in Puerto Princesa - a bit far from core downtown, though they do call paid tricycles as and when needed

Lovely, but has its pros and cons”

This B&B has its pros & cons. Pros: Inexpensive, friendly/helpful staff, cute touches, nice pool, massage services on site, quick drive to town/food, breakfast and shuttle service included, picturesque accommodations. No bed bugs! Cons: Breakfast options are very limited, as is the shuttle service. Only two lounge chairs poolside. Overall, the place is a little run down and the room was in need of a deep clean and had ants. Linens were clean, but smelled strongly and had stains. Advice to management: Deep clean your guest rooms, use a more neutral laundry soap and invest in new linens. I would have given 5 stars across the board considering the value price if those things were taken care of. If you're not super picky and just looking for a nice place to sleep, this place is wonderful. Cons:

Wouldn’t stay again. ”

The hotel has really good potential to be a great hotel it just needs to be ran better. We stayed for two nights, when we arrived it was early and the girl at the desk said we couldn’t check in yet because the other guests needed to check out, but if we wanted to pay by the hour we could have the room. We said we were happy to wait until check in time and sat by the pool. Suddenly the heavens opened and it rained really badly. After an hour of us sitting under shelter the hotel clearly felt bad and offered us our room, which by the way we ready for us when we arrived as there was no one else staying at the hotel. Another family of four arrived later that day. There is no food available in the restaurant. The only option of food they had was burgers but because the family of four ordered them an hour before us there were non available. The girl at the desk said they could order us food in which we happily said yes too. But then we’re told that the delivery did not run after 10pm. The following day when we tried to order delivery again the leaflet the receptionist handed us had clearly on the bottom - delivery until 1am. Don’t really understand why they didn’t tell us the truth there. Nothing is straight forward, always an excuse. ‘Can’t phone a pizza place from a mobile phone, can’t call from a landline, no ones home, we have no internet’ list of excuses is never ending. You will be hungry. We decided to go down town, we got to the hotel from the port after being at Honda Bay before and a taxi cost 40 peso for a 30 min journey. The motorbike taxis all have a going rate labelled on their side carts. The hotel ordered us a motorbike taxi to take us down town and said to us at the desk it will cost 50peso for a 10 min journey. We asked them to tell the driver to pick us up at 3.30 and we would pay in advance there and back. They said the taxi was trusted reliable driver for the hotel. He never came back to pick us up and took off with our money. We got a taxi back

Highly disappointed”

Absolutely horrible property and cramped space that’s out of the way from anything useful. The space was chosen as I believed the amenities and interesting layout would be quiet and ideal to be out of the way during a quick layover. Once arrived to the property and verified we were the only guests occupying the entire property and the ongoing construction and dirty pool, I wanted out! Most of all the small and cramped room with an even smaller bed was not comfortable. The wall AC was unusually loud which drowned out of thoughts in our own heads. The free shuttle van to the airport were set to specific times which did not coordinate with our departure, so a tricycle was available and would transport us for a small fee. The morning of departure I was told that they could not arrange it as earlier advised and they would transport us in the van for an additional cost! Bogus and a rip off! Absolutely terrible place and horrible service. Again, we were the only guests on the entire property!

No hot water and electricity ”

Hi there! We stayed there for 2 nights and it was one of the worst experiences from our traveling. First of all, our room wasn’t clean and the bedsheets were not clean enough. Secondary, the water and electricity were off and on consistently. We have to asked the staff to change the room which is they did and nice about it. But second room still has same problems, plus when we switched to the new room no blankets and towels at all. we have to ask the staffs again and the again for the same issue. The place is lovely but facilities can be more updated and the staffs should be more efficient. we have no hot water, no water, no electricity. really bad experience. Can you refound us at less 50% of the booking ? thank you.

Relax ”

We loved our stay at Palo Alto. Don’t be worried as you get driven into the backstreets that seem far away from town, this place is it’s own little sanctuary and you will never want to leave. The pool area is lovely and clean. The room we were in was very spacious and clean. We didn’t have the breakfast as we are vegan but everyone morning we had our own cereal and soy milk and the girls would bring us out a massive plate of delicious fresh fruit. When we wanted to head into the town they would call a tricycle for us and they also have a free van that drops you into town at 6pm and picks you up at 9pm at a certain time. Tricycle cost no more then P120-150 each way and all the guys were lovely and would wait for you to have dinner and take you home or make extra stops on the journey for you to look at markets etc. Palo Alto will also help you organize tours, we did the firefly tour and the underground river tour, love both! Couldn’t recommend this place more, we were sad to leave!

Lovely quite place to start your travels at Palawa”

Comfortable rooms, great service, quite

Palo Alto is a great location to start or to end your travels on Palawan. The place is in a quite sub-urban area of PP, but still very centrally located. The service is excellent and rooms (we had the family room with loft) comfortable. The staff does everything to make you feel at home and the free shuttle service makes travelling even more easy. We loved it!

Quiet little get away in the woods”

The hotel had amazing architecture with wooden towers and beautiful lights. It also had a pool and friendly staff and owners.

I would certainly recommend Palo Alto for anyone who doesn't want to stay in the middle of the hussle and bussle of Puerto Princesa. Set in the middle of the forest, Palo Alto is an oasis of the modern and comfortable. The entire building, with a bar and lookout tower, is made of local wood. And the swimming pool is very nice.

Great b&b”

Hotel finishings were fantastic, all recycled wood. Very relaxed, soothing ambiance. Staff were very courteous & helpful.

We stayed at the Palo Alto b&b for one night this week. I read about it in a friend's blog, she mentioned that the whole place is made from wood & that it is a sight to see in itself. My friend was right. I loved the architecture of the b&b, you feel like you are in a giant tree house. I can imagine kids having fun in this place, running around & exploring the hallways & staircases. We got welcome drinks, malunggay juice, upon check in & was given little notes as to the different WiFi codes, map + address, & hotel info. The room we had was very basic, but for a 2-star place, it was well suitable. The bathroom was not too cramped & even the ceiling in the hotel room was made of indigenous materials. We did not leave the hotel until check out the next day, & had all our meals at their resident restaurant "Salakot" (it means ladle in Tagalog, I think); the food wasn't fantastic but it wasn't bad either. I ordered spaghetti bolognese for dinner & though very meaty, lacked the taste of the tomato sauce. A bit of tweaking with the recipe will do the trick, I reckon,. Also, they have a shuttle van that picks you up from the airport to the b&b area, it's quite a drive but when you get there it's worth it -- the architecture is wonderful, really. They do need to invest on some mosquito repellants.
