Built in 1912 and offering budget, backpacker-style accommodation in a charming historic building, National Park Alpine Lodge features free WiFi in communal areas and both Netflix and satellite channels in the shared lounge area. It is located in National Park Village, 25 km from Mount Ruapehu. Free private parking is available on site. There is a shared kitchen at the property. Also included is a communal dining area and shared bathrooms for guests. Guests can enjoy a game of billiards at National Park Alpine Lodge or relax by the fireplace. Tongariro Alpine Crossing is a 25 minute drive from the property.

Excellent choice to rest before and/or after the Tongariro Northern Circuit! We did our laundry for free, which was really convenient after the tramp. Really nice staff, everything's clean. You can use the kitchen and park the car in front of the hotel. The beds were so comfortable, we loved them!

Cheap, good for the purpose”
Lodge was good, it’s a backpackers place. Considering people go there for climbing Tongariro, I’d change check-in/out times to be late check-in and late check-out too. It makes no sense to have someone check-out at 5-6am when they leave to climb the summit. Lady was kind as I could shower for free when I returned from a whole day climb at 2pm but overall I disagree with this being chargeable (5NZD) for someone who stayed there and had to check out at dawn.

Happy with our stay. Check in at anytime just ring the bell.. lots of rooms... very nice kitchen. Great fire place hang out area. The sheets were amazing soooooo warm! The lady checking us in was super nice!

Cosy lodge, welcomed owner”
The room is clean, spacious and warm, and the kitchen and living/dining room is cosy and well-equipped for cooking our own meals. It is a good choice for a rest after a day skiing on Whakapapa ski field. The lodge has a small dairy stores in front, which is convenient since we don't have to walk to the only supermarket in the village.
