Fantastic little gem with a great location & outstanding service ”

We stayed here several years ago, and was really pleased to do a return trip last month. The staff were amazing especially Linda and Collin who truly went above and beyond to ensure we were thoroughly pampered. Location is ideal for exploring Georgetown; Linda will arrange for a trishaw to take you around or just leg it as Muntri Mews is merely a hop, skip & jump away from the noteworthy heritage spots. More importantly, you are within 5mins walking distance of the unmissable Two Frenchies and Le Petit Four Pattisserie. There's local food aplenty within walking distance of Muntri Mews also, although the uber famous food stalls & restaurants do require you do some driving. Back to Muntri Mews - we had a ground floor unit, which opens out towards a lovely little 'corridor garden' with lush foliage, ideal for al fresco afternoon tea. We will return again as this is our preferred place to stay in Georgetown. Big thanks again to Linda, Collin and the entire Muntri Mews crew XX

In bliss and wonderful staff!”

Muntri Mews was amazing, centrally located in Georgetown, UNESCO heritage site. Flanked by budget hotels and hostels, Muntri Mews did not lose its shine with its wonderful outdoor cafe and a good chill-out vibe in the room. I brought my parents to stay (3-person) in the hotel and it is also one of the rare places to offer an extra bed. My compliments go to the staff of the place. Brian was extremely helpful in sorting out my bus/boat arrangement to Koh Samui. He even dropped me a text to check if I had gotten safely to Samui at the estimate time of arrival! What a guy! I am also grateful to others (Tanya and the big guy whose name I never got) who helped my mum, who got lost after we changed accom but found her way back to Muntri Mews, to locate me via email and also offered to accompany her to search for me/new hotel. Very thankful for all the warm help rendered :). All in all, a great stay at Muntri Mews!

Fantastic: my favorite hotel of all times”

My favorite hotel of all times! I loved my stay in Muntri Mews. I will definitely go back there. The staff is very helpful and professional. The breakfast is done by a chef is delicious. Rooms are beautifully arranged and design. Beds are very comfortable. The location in Georgetown is perfect. You can visit Georgetown just by walking. Lots of cafes and restaurant near by. Excellent for business, leisure, family, couples... The staff is very dedicated.they take the time to explain you where to go and what to visit. They make sure the taxi is on time. They even allowed us to take a shower even though we already checked out the room! I loved my experience in Muntri Mews. They are a big factor of why I enjoyed Penang so much!

Muntri Mews was amazing. Located on a street with lots of hostel or boutique hotels, I thought this would be one of those places that looked great in photos and less so in real life. Amazing value for money, clean and with a great design aesthetic, heritage feeling. I normally avoid getting breakfast included in Asia as there's so much cheap good food around, but I regretted it after seeing Muntri Mews menu - hope I get another chance to stay there again. Staff were lovely, bed was comfy, WIFI a little weak on the main connection but fine on the Cafe network. Such a great place and really convenient to walk to good local food. We didn't do much sightseeing in Penang: we were gourmet travellers, if you consider street stalls gourmet (which I do). Hit up Sky Hotel for lunch - it's the best cha shao (cha siu/Chinese red roast pork) I've ever eaten, and I've eaten a lot. Life changing. Locate one of the non-touristy hawker centres for some great noodles, soup, iced drinks and desserts. If it's made fresh, you won't get sick. Stay away from Red Garden, hardly any local food and bad touristy atmosphere.

Great stay at a great location, tranquil setting”

My friend (first time to Penang) and I had a great stay and we love this place which was converted from Horse Stable. The room is so spacious and air con is strong which is what we needed after coming back from outside. This is also a 24 hour laundry service just across the road. We have been told & warned to be careful with our valuables, fortunately all is fine. Initially, we were a little concerned that the safe in the wardrobe is not bolted. The Mew is conveniently located within walking distance to Jalan Chulia which is where the best food in town is at night, delicious and cheap. You can also take a good walk around the area to enjoy the Armenian Street Art which unfortunately some paint work is already fading. A broad brim hat is recommended. We are looking at trying out the hotel chain - Muntri Groves next visit to Penang in early 2016. Muntri Mews is highly recommended. Regards A Khoo - Perth Western Australia May 2015

Stylish boutique hotel with excellent service ”

We were very impressed with all aspects of Muntri Mews. In particular it has to be said that the quality of the service provided by all the Mews staff was exceptional throughout our stay. Their friendliness and attention to detail exceeded all our expectations. The cafe food was delicious and the ambience and atmosphere relaxing and ejoyable. The accommodation is stylish and comfortable and kept immaculately clean and tidy. We could hardly believe it when our room was not only cleaned and tidied in the morning but also prepared in the evening for bedtime. Our only issue was that the room we had been allocated was near the front of the mews. So when we were tired and turned in early at night the noise from the street and cafe (especially on the night when there was a live performer) was rather disturbing. That said the Mews is in an excellent location to be able to explore Georgetown on foot and we had an interesting and enjoyable stay.

Fabulous place to stay”

This boutique hotel ( it only has 9 rooms) is a rarity - it is even better than its website photos. This is a beautiful reworking of an old mews in the heart of Georgetown. Good location just minutes from Penang Rd. and a short walk to Chinatown and Little India. The upstairs rooms are large and organised so that there is a sitting area separated from the sleeping area by the bathroom . Everything is spotlessly clean, electronic insect control plus mosquito nets on the bed help protect against the mosquitoes which are ever present in the tropics. The air conditioning and overhead fans keep the rooms very comfortable and are easily adjusted for individual tastes. Smart bathrooms, good showers and an evening bed turn down service which includes flower petals sprinkled on the sheets - a nice touch. Free wifi is available The stairs are very steep but worth the climb. The upstairs rooms open onto a long verandah with chairs and overlook the Courtyard. Downstairs rooms open directly onto the courtyard. The mews has a cafe which serves a very good breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. It is open all day. The staff are very helpful and pleasant to deal with. I heartily recommend this place to visitors to Penang.

An absolute delight”

this was our first visit to penang. staying at muntri mews was one of the best experiences of this trip. it's excellently located: you can walk to practically anywhere in georgetown -- including the many restaurants and shops. the hotel staff was first class: friendly, knowledgeable, helpful. we even got to meet the owner, who is responsible for renovating this historic building. muntri mews completely charmed us. and the people of georgetown are fantastic.

Back at home ”

I feel like I was back at home and didnt wish to leave on my last day. Staff are up to mark. They paid every single detail during my stay in Muntri Mews. They become my friends and part of my life. Room is relatively big and clean. Comfortable enough to stay in the room the whole day. However, a "do not disturb" sign is much needed for privacy purposes. More TV channels can be considered for in house entertainment - preferably Chinese channels. Cafe is cosy and cooling. Food are relatively good and affordable. They even have "live" band on Sat evening. They should consider doing on Friday evening as well. Hotel surrounding is quiet and hotel is near tourist attraction - good location in GeorgeTown. If I am going back to Penang again, I will definitely stay in Muntri Mews. Thumbs up and highly recommended to all travelers.

Tastefully restored boutique hotel ”

Muntri Mews is a small boutique hotel in the heart of Georgetown's heritage Chinese area within walking distance of other shops and restaurants. The staff were welcoming, friendly and informal as to make one feel at home. Our air-conditioned studio room on the ground floor was light and airy. The separate bathroom had a walk-in shower, plenty of hot water, quality toiletries and a modern toilet. The large twin beds side-by-side were set into an alcove for sleeping and relaxed LCD TV viewing. The built-in lounge seating was comfortable and supplied with colourful cushions. Free wifi was available in the room. Furniture included an antique writing table and chair.The whole renovation was done with taste; selected floor tiles and a large reproduction of a local artist's sketch of the area.. We enjoyed complete privacy being on the ground level with wooden shutters and half-height frosted windows. Breakfasts were freshly prepared as were evening meals. We used the hotel's smaller taxi with driver for a tailored day trip around the island and later transfer to the airport. The driver was polite, informative and knew the highlights of the island and restaurants. Our stay at Muntri Mews was a highlight of our Malaysian trip.

A Hidden Gem in Georgetown with Impeccable Service”

Muntri Mews is one of the few hotels that we stayed at during our Penang trip. From the start, their service is impeccable. They respond email really quickly. Their website don't do it justtice as the actual room is much bigger than the one in the picture. We were upgraded to the upper floor and there's a wow factor upon entering the room. It's modern and old-fashioned styles combined, and with a tasteful touch everywhere. They also serve a tea with those old-fashioned Chinese pot as welcome drink and 4 petite Malay Cakes which are really yummy! Every staff is smiling and service is impeccable. By paying a little more (than other average Georgetown hotel), you get way more than what you paid for. Overall, highly recommended.

agoda and muntri mews did not fail me. after reading the many positive reviews on the hotel here, i made a booking for 2 nights. we were warmly received by the hotel's personnel upon (a very late) arrival. lovely ms. chona candidly entertained our queries, from parking lots to history of the hotel. limited rooms at the establishment ensured serenity and spaciousness (of each room). muntri mews is most definitely on my top 5 must-stay list in penang!

Nice, Centrally Located, Friendly Staff”

Our stay was very pleasant at Muntri Mews. The staff is is nice, friendly and helpful. We checked in very late the first night, and they were very ready and waiting for us. We had told them we would be late. They seem to know what the customers need. If you come home in the middle of the day from touring they are up at your room a few minutes later with ice-cold lemon water, knowing how hot it is in Penang. We asked many questions about where to visit outside of Georgetown and they gave us lots of assistance. The food in the cafe is very good, no matter your taste. It is centrally located to all of the historical sites in Georgetown. I would highly recommend staying here.

One of the best boutique hotels”

Fell in love with this place the moment we walked it. It's discreet on a busy street and so peaceful with a very cosy cafe up front. The room was very spacious with a separate living area which doubled as a 2nd sleeping area for the 3 of us. Everything you need is there and everyday the staff would refill drinking water and turn down service. Along the corridor there are chairs and benches for you to chill or read a book. Because the property is pretty small, you would rarely see other guests so it's pretty serene. Only downside was the steep stairs. Breakfast at cafe mews was awesome. We had the croissant and salmon scrambled both were very good. They also served fresh orange juice and coffee with breakfast. The service staff were very attentive and helpful with recommendations even. In addition, there is free wifi and the lady who runs the place gave us good recommendations. Muntri Mews is ideally located in the central heritage trail. Plenty of cafes, museums, attractions, hawker and chill hangouts are within walking distance. Will definitely return if we're back in Penang.

This was the first time I stayed at Muntri Mews Hotel, and the second time I had visited the hotel restaurant for their delicious food. Food is always great, and a good standard, meeting the higher prices of their dishes. Totally worth the spend, and a lovely atmosphere at the restaurant day and night. The staff here are absolutely amazing, very hospitable and always more than accommodating to requests. I was staying a few nights here with a friend, and we both had a lovely time. I really enjoyed the heritage style and decor of the room, and found the room to be a comfortable haven even when we were forced to stay indoors due to heavy rain. I would definitely recommend this hotel to people and will most likely stay here again if I am back in Georgetown.

My stay at the Muntri Mews was extraordinary! The hotel itself is truly charming - and everything works! You don't lays find such charm and function, but the Mews has both. Add to that wonderfully attentive, friendly, accommodating, helpful, and delightful staff. And excellent food. And perfect location from which to explore Georgetown. What more could anyone want? I recommend Muntri Mews without qualification. And cannot wait to return myself!

Muntri Mews is a fantastic place to stay if you travel to Penang. It is in a great location and easy walking distance to the main attractions in George Town. The hotel has a great atmosphere and a great little cafe. The rooms have done up beautifully and are in keeping with its surroundings and heritage. The best thing about Muntri Mews is the staff, very friendly and helpful. I would defiantly recommend the guided walking tours they do. It was a real highlight of our trip. Will stay here again next time I am in Penyang for sure.

Great Boutique Hotel, Great Staff, Great Location”

We had a wonderful stay at Muntri Mews and I would absolutely recommend it. The room was large and nicely decorated. We have 3 kids and there were more than enough places for them to sleep without having to get an extra bed. The couch was long. The “twin” beds were actually two double beds next to each other. My husband and I slept on one and our two boys slept on the other. Check in was fast and we were greeted with hot tea and fruit. Every single time we came back to the room from being out and about someone was at our door with ice cold water within minutes. The breakfast was about 7 items to choose from a menu each morning. Everything we had was really good. Everyone who worked there spoke English well they were super helpful with information about the area. They called taxis for us many times. The area was great and in the middle of Georgetown. The only negative I can say about the hotel was that the bed was hard. Otherwise, it was perfect.

Lovely boutique hotel”

Simply love this boutique hotel in the heart of Georgetown area. Design very well thought out, room is especially comfortable with a large alcove bed space and separate large lounge, as well as dining table for two. We stayed in a twin suite, on the ground floor. Alcove space has 2 double beds side by side, plenty of room for three of us (my husband, 4 year old child and me) to sleep comfortably. The food was particularly good. I recommend booking with breakfast included. We also enjoyed our room service meal one night when we didn't feel like going out, though there are plenty of local food options available walking distance. And staff very friendly and thoughtful. Exceptional service. We will definitely stay at Muntri Mews again.

Fantastic location, very helpful staff and lovely property”

We loved our stay in Muntri Mews- the location is fabulous for exploring Georgetown UNESCO World heritage sites. We walked around and managed to see most of the sites in the city on foot. The staff were extremely helpful- even gave us large umbrellas to help us move around when it was raining. There are lots of maps/tourist info brochures and recommendations on food, shopping and attractions. This was a quick weekend trip for us and we hadn't done much research prior to the trip- so this was a great help. All the recommendations on food were spot on! The room was quite spacious and the property is a lovely old restored building. And must add the cafe downstairs had some great food options- had nice live acoustic music on Saturday night. Will definitely recommend this place to friends for sure.
