I didn’t quite know what to expect from a place like Medan and a hostel like MM Capsule. With zero expectations and a rough plan when I reached this hostel, I was smitten. Mainly because the homely vibe it gave. Everything seemed to be in flux… changing, improving, getting better. You see, hotels are perfect and orchestrated — in terms of interiors, facilities and staff interactions. Places like MM Capsule Hostel feels like in the making like our homes. They are figuring things out as they go along. Receptionists serve as baristas, learning to make cappuccinos from a notebook they had hand-written instructions in — the proportions of the coffee and milk, grind-size and so on. They struggled to speak English but they weren’t afraid to try with their sweet Indonesian accent. The helper, oh the helper! Late in her 50s, she was delighted to meet me every time we crossed path.

Don't look further: Best place in Medan”
This is, hands down, a top 3 hostel after travelling for over 8 months in SE Asia. I am surprised to find this in Medan after being in cities like Bangkok, Tokyo, Osaka, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, Singapore or Saigon. I have been in 4 hostels in Medan and this one plays in another league, I just cannot believe the price for what you get. New place and facilities, big dining room and rest dedicated ambiances, everything is very clean. It owns a home like feeling (I am spending plenty of time in the hostel as I am relaxing after a few hectic traveling weeks), super comfy capsule beds, with lockers, 2 plugs, light and hanger. You can use microwave, kitchen appliances; showers with plenty of room, hangers, soap and hot water (not so common!). Lots attention to detail. Super attentive and kind staff and owner, free very good breakfast. I rarely write reviews for hostels anymore, as I visit dozens during my trip, but this one definetely deserves other traveller´s attention, as it is a rare gem.

Remarkable. Remarkable!”
When I drove up to MM, I thought it would be another hostel like any other. The neighborhood is boring and I thought MM would be, too. I was completely wrong! This place is an architectural delight. The winding staircase is a work of art. The floors are hardwood. The entire place was crafted with genuine pride. I booked in for five days and then extended for another two days. My only complaint is the area. There are no good restaurants in the area. However, if you go out to the street, turn right, and walk down toward the traffic light you can find an excellent vegetable and fruit stand. I bought a lot of food there and brought it back to the hostel to eat.

Hostel is very new, very clean, and has very nice interior design. Staff and owners of hostel are super friendly!! They also have 2 adorable, friendly mini dogs. individual capsule bed that gives privacy even tho it is a 10 bed dorm room. Mattress are so comfortable. Room are attached with toilet, hot water shower and sinks. Around the hostel there are places to eat. And it cost less than $2 to get a grabcar to the city center (3km). Nearby there is a mosque which prays 5x a day but I was not bothered by it. one of the best hostel i had stayed before and will come again in future

Superb Hostel, Bad Location”
This is a deluxe hostel at a bargain price. It is an architectural gem. Every aspect of the interior design and furnishings shows tremendous pride and excellent workmanship. Excellent staff. the price is certainly fair. No complaints. Excellent WiFi. There are several drawbacks guests should be aware of. First, the location is poor. A Grab taxi costs 40,000 to get downtown or to go to a shopping center. I stayed at the hostel without going out, so that was not a problem. But if you want to go shopping or look for a restaurant, you will want to think twice. Second, the hostel is right beside a mosque. I swear that the calls to prayers are piped directly into the hostel. If you like the Islamic calls to prayer (personally I do), you will enjoy it. Otherwise, you should take advantage of the earplugs graciously made at the front desk at the front desk.

I stayed for 1 night and it was one of my memorable night ever because i was so Drunk, we went to have a drink in a bar with my fellow backpackers and plus the manager / owner of the hostel. It was really nice experience but the next morning I regret cos of worst hangover ever. But to sum up my stay in this hostel I really appreciate the staff who woke me up or else I'll miss the service going to my next destination. And also I appreciate that they assist me the night after the party because as I can remember I'm so drunk that I cannot even go up my room haha . I'm really ashamed actually but it is a memorable experience hehehe. Thank you again

Perfect hostel! Staff was so nice, everything was clean and nice spaces to hang out in. Perfect if you need to chill for a few days. Right next to a Mosque which is really loud, but the hostel had double windows and offer free noise canceling earbuds.

Backpackers' heaven”
Very new and gorgeous place. Spick and span conditions, very comfortable and clean stay especially for backpackers on a budget. Staff were very friendly and helpful. You can book tours from the hostel. There is a kitchen island to cook your own meals. Homely common areas to chill. Was pleasantly surprise that free breakfast (cereal and toast) was provided even at such low staying rates. The only downside was the location. It is not very near the city center.
