I had a non air-conditioned villa and was exceptional. Private, clean and almost right on the beach yet yards away from hotel restaurant with good quality food and good selection. Staff fabulous! Eager to assist and pleasant to speak with. Thank you Pesba, Albert and my great driver and guide Pete. Took me to traditional villages and megolith tombstones as requested and more. Well spent full day. Walk alone for miles on beautiful white sand beach or sit beside, or in, the infinity pool. Yes there are lounge chairs built right in to the pool! Buffet breakfast great and cook takes pleasure preparing great food to please the guests. Also has air conditioned rooms with great view and 2 new luxury villas right in the beach. My fan worked great. No problem with heat and I was there in dry season. Can't recommend this place and this island enough. Sunset and sunrise for your enjoyment also. Exceeded my hopes and surpassed my expectations. Thanks for great stay. You made me feel at home.

Really nice hotel on the beach. Great pool and really friendly staff. Very pretty garden with a lot of flowers and butterflies. We had long days touring the island so mostly just enjoyed the shower, the bed and breakfast. Highly recommended!

I came to Sumba to visit my cousin who had recently started a new teaching job there . Mario’s is right on the beach so you can’t get much closer than that but they have a lovely salt water pool as well ! I chose to stay in one of the huts which are basic put fun ! Love hearing the waves crashing on the shore at night ! Food was nice and staff all very friendly and accommodating! Not a lot to do on this island but if you enjoy surf , sun , relaxing ! Its a nice place to visit .

Mario Hotel&Cafe works hard to keep up hospitality on a higher level. The hotel is beautiful located on a 7 km beach. Where you can swim, search for shells and witness awesome sunrise/set. Breakfast is included and delicious. Transport to the airport is 200.000 idr one way. Book at the reception. We stayed last week in the bungalow right at the beach. (20meter) There is no AC, but the van was enough to cool down the room. The mosquito net protects against the creepies and crawlies. The saltwater pool is clean and lovely to cool down. Staff spoke English. Hope to come back one day.

Pros.. Excellent staff Great bungalows Or hotel rooms. Great views over Komodo Islands and Flores. Aris was an excellent host.. All the staff made us feel very welcome. Fantastic pool. Restaurant was excellent.

Lovely hotel in northwest Sumba”
Pros: bungalow is spacious, has amazing outdoor bathroom with hot water, good amenities (fan but no AC) and amazing view. Beach even if location is a bit remote. Best breakfast while in Sumba with competent buffet options. Great, clean pool. well manicured grounds. Cons:No wifi onsite. 25 min from Tambolaka Airport in rough road (200RP for transfer) Would recommend!

This accommodation really needs a manager. There has not been a manager for more than 1 year. Staff is too passive and needs to be lead. The owner does not know at all what is going on. The pool is frequently used by outside guests - especially noisy smoking volunteers who work at the foundation next door - who have not booked rooms. Anyone could use the pool facilities for free which is not fair to guests who have booked rooms. Pool should be cleaned daily and only 6 of 14 pool beds have a mattress. Beds in the bamboo bungalows are too small.
