Nice boutique hotel at a great price”
The shower is the best I've had in Thailand! I've stayed in 30 hotels and bungalows including 5 star Bangkok high rises and this was the best. The jacuzzi was excellent with endless hot water for both the shower and jacuzzi, you can watch TV or a movie(free DVD library at the hotel was amazing) while taking a jacuzzi in room. The bed, pillows and linens were of excellent quality and the room has robes and slippers. It was amazing to find this beautiful boutique hotel in this quiet fishing village. The price was without a doubt the best deal I've got in two months of vacationing all over Thailand. If you want to get away from run down bungalows or overpriced resorts this is a great place for a few nights. It allows you to enjoy the snorkeling at Koh Ma and the West coast beaches of Koh Phangan are easily accessible by motor scooter which you can rent from the hotel. I truly enjoyed my stay at the Mandalai Hotel. The staff was the most accommodating I had in my trip to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. It is a nice place to get some 4 star comfort for a great price. I will return to Koh Phangan to snorkel at Koh Ma it is unbelievable and the Mandalai is a comfortable, friendly and an affordable place to stay. If going to the North part of Koh Phangan this is a must stay place. If you want the beaches and the backpacker party scene this is not the place for you. This a great place for some pampering, peace and quiet with access to outdoor activities within 5-15 minutes by motor scooter.

Luxurious stay at the Mandalai”
My partner and I stayed at the Mandalai for 4 nights in December 2008. We actually stayed on Koh Phangan for the NYE beach party on 31st and wanted to stay out of the hustle and bustle of Haad Rin. The Mandalai is about a 40 minute drive from Haad Rin pier(500 - 1000 baht in a taxi). The hotel is a trendy boutique hotel that I would highly recommend. We were actually upgraded to a beach front suite which was fantastic!! The room was the perfect size and had a jacuzzi tub in addition to the shower which was great. The staff were extremely helpful and hospitable and the food was top notch. Definitely worth a visit!

nice hotel, location and service”
the hotel is nice, good rooms and forniture, friendly people. It is located in the Chaloklum village, the good choise if you like relax and a tipical thai place (small village, small rooms, smiling people), but you also need all services (internet point, massage, restaurants, beach, travel agency). If you like bloody mess, party and bukets maybe Hat Rin (the full moon party place in Koh Phangan) is the best place.

Perfect 4-star service!”
Mandalai is really a 4-stars hotel. It is situated almost alone on the north side of the Phangan Island, right on the beach. Sea is OK there, but much better sea was at Haad Rin Nok (the opposite side of Phangan), but we don't like that Haad Rin Nok, were too crowded (we visited Phangan at Full Moon Party). Not very big, but good, equipped room, big wardrobe, lots of towels, pillows. The swimming pool not too big, but it's not necessary, because the hotel stands right on the beach and we usually swam at the sea and laid on the white sand near the hotel. It was a big pleasure to come to Sheesha - rest of Mandalai. Breakfast was delicious and everything we ordered also was very tasty.

Very good choice!”
Nicest hotel in the Chaloklum Bay! Small and cozy, just on the beach, modern elegant rooms...the perfect accomodation for a relaxing holiday in Koh Phangan! Helpful and friendly staff. A wide selection of dvd is at disposal of the clients. The Sheesha Bar just next to it is ideal for a drink at sunset...

For us - Perfection”
We had a very large room overlooking the beautiful beach of Chaloklum. Through sliding doors, and a few steps onto a superb, soft sand, calm waters beach, perfect for swimming. The hotel had an adequate size pool, which we hardly used because the sea was so inviting. The rooms had tea coffee et cetera and TV. Aircon was effective. Breakfast was at an Italian café 10 paces away from the hotel, the coffee and breakfast was excellent. Having travelled extensively in Thailand, I can honestly say the staff at the hotel were marvellous. I must mention Pop and Amorn, the managers of the hotel who were very attentive and always checking if we needed anything. They organise transport, bike or car hire at good rates, and transport back to the ferry when we left. We were there for three weeks, and it was not long enough. I also must mention Ai Who looked after our rooms extremely well. A lovely lady who was always ready with a smile. Chaloklum is NOT A party town. It is a town for relaxing, enjoying the market on the pier every Sunday, massage, and some very good food. We particularly enjoyed the food at Nong M next door, and Indy Restaurant. Look out for the market and festival at Maduwan Temple, very enjoyable. The Belvidere was a very good place for a sundowner, up on the side of the hill overlooking the bay. But it was also excellent sitting on our balcony! The town is a working fishing village, so seafood was excellent, and the locals were charming, and more ready with a smile than all other tourist resorts that I have been to. Highly recommended, next time it will be for a month.

Beautiful and Relaxing”
My partner and I had a fantastic mini break to Koh Phangan staying at this resort. We chose this resort as its in an area we love to visit in KP. The hotel itself was nestled quite nicely amongst the other decor of the little rustic fishing village. Inside the hotel was a large, clean pool with rooms set around it. Our room was on the beach front. We had ceiling to floor windows which meant we got a fantastic view of the sea from our bed every morning. The room was very large, with nice furnishings, a great bath tub/jacuzzi, and was very clean (always a must!). I would 100% recommend staying at this lovely boutique hotel. It's fantastic value for money.

Manda WOW!”
After check-in the wow-factor starts: a welcome with a fresh coconut. The next thing you see is an astonishing view at the Chaloklum bay. Rooms have a bubble bath and a very luxurious look, with an overwhelming amount of beautiful flowers to make sure this blows you of your feet also. The hotel offers extras, such as a DVD player in every room (free DVD's for rent). The staff is very friendly and cooperative. Good breakfast on the veranda with the beach at your feet and the clear turkois water as far as you can see. Chaloklum is a small fisherman town, with a non-touristic and relaxed atmosphere. All in all, this is what paradise looks and feels like!

Culture trip”
The hotel was absolutely beautiful, the breakfast was included and you could choose a variety of things from eggs benedict to toast and jam to a continental breakfast; definately money for value. I loved the location as it was situated in a little fishing village. You weren't surrounded by the crazy full moon party goers and you could learn a little about the Koh Phangan day to day life. You were able to catch taxi boats to the sucluded beaches and a elephant safari was just down the road which was another value for money experience. When first arriving the fish smell did disturb me as it is located in a fishing town but you soon adapted.

Our stay at Mandalai Hotel”
We had a really nice time at the Mandalai Hotel. The hotel backs onto a beautiful quiet beach with breath-taking views. The staff were all very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotless, comfortable, big and ours even had a jacuzzi. There's a lot of DVDs to borrow to watch in your room too. Great value for money!

Delightful and Unspoiled”
We were recommended by a family member who had a very positive experience with the Mandalai Hotel. The warm greeting at the reception tipped off a chain of positive experiences. The room was lovely spacious and clean. The dining including food and staff was great! I would highly recommend the Mandalai and would happily return as a client.

Spacious rooms just on the beach”
The hotel is located in a quiet small town on a quiet street in the north of Koh Phangan. We stayed 4 nights in the Beach Front Suites, which are in the first floor just facing the beach. The beach is nice and calm, but almost disappears on high tide. The service was very helpful and supported us in all our requests. We enjoyed our stay and would always come back.

Remote Design Hotel”
Beautiful design in a remote location. Truly an unique experience of the "real" Thailand combined with personal luxury in a lovely atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and even the owner himself gave us personal attention and service. We had a terrible thunderstorm which left the hotel without power and no water for a day. Inconvenient, but in a remote part of the island such must be expected from a small hotel. This hotel is so small that it does not have a power back up system and power outage is common on Koh Phagnan. However, the staff was super attentive and accommodating!

Beatiful hotel”
Although the ride in taxi was both long and expensive from the ferry dock i felt the Mandalai was worth it! Rooms were clean and so beautiful..this is not your beach bungalow that you find all over Koh Phagnan. When we missed the taxi for the ferry due to oversight in our time, staff went looking all over the island for us and then made special arrangements to book the speed boat to Koh Sumai so we wouldn't miss an afternoon flight. Not much beach though, but we also had the unfortunate problem of not seeing the sun the WHOLE time we were there BUT if it were sunny there was very little beach to hang out on. Also, location is very quiet but has enough right around area to ride a motorbike and see great things in the area and get some awesome food!

Delightful modern hotel in the heart of the village”
Modern, spacious, well-equipped rooms within 15m to 150m of everything you might want in Chaloklum village. The hotel is right on the beach and has its own small but perfectly formed swimming pool. The manager, Pop, is delightful and exceptionally helpful.

Lovely stay in Mandalai”
We enjoyed our stay at the Mandalai Hotel. On arrival you get a great view out to sea. The room was nicely decorated, the fixtures and fittings were impressive and the attention to detail in the room was good. When we stayed they were doing their stay 2 nights get 1 free so it was very good value! It was a bonus to have the pool as at times we needed it to cool off! One of the nicest hotels we have stayed in Thailand. We had planned to stay 4 nights but ended up staying 10!

Great Place”
Had an amazing stay in the beachfront suite. Very modem design, in room jacuzzi, nice pool, amazing view, and directly in the middle of a small working fishing village. Not the best swimming beach but those are only a short scooter ride away. The best swimming beach is bottle beach which is only 20 minutes by longtail. Wouldn't recommend staying at bottle beach overnight as the accomodations are not good. Lots of good restaurants by Mandalai, our favorites were a place called Texas on the corner and a great Italian place. Can't remember the name but it's the only one in Chakoloklum.

New happy place!”
This area became my new "happy place" in Thailand! Small, intimate, Thai fishing village with a slow pace. The Hotel obviously had new renovations, the paint and grout in the bathroom was fresh as was the whole room. Very clean, very friendly staff, incredible beach. One highlight was watching 4 young Thai girls do footraces down the beach, then watching young Thai boys diving off the pier. Very cool locals! The water has crystal clarity, and the sand is like fine flour. Very friendly at the restaurants, with incredible food. Will be back.

Value for money”
It was a bargain, so my expectations were rather low, instead I have discovered a superb 3 stars hotel that delivers great value for money. Probably the best in Chaloklum village area.

Ideal location for a quiet stay”
This small boutique hotel is perfectly located in a quiet beach, with fishermen village. It's about 15 mn driving from the main pier Thong Sala. Not crowded at all, not that many tourists in this area, which is totally different from Had Rin where full moon party takes place. It's easy to go there though if you wish to enjoy dancing all night long ;-) The hotel itself is really nice, simple and contemporary, and the rooms facing the sea are amazing (only 4 rooms). No breakfast, but small restaurants are nearby with reasonable price, good quality and friendly people. It's our second time here : we came here 3 years ago, when the hotel just opened few months before. This time, we were a bit disappointed because there is a lack of maintenance and everything is becoming old so fast... If they don't pay attention to this situation and do everything needed to check and renovate, it might cause bad reputation for this place. It would be a pity, because it's really a lovely place and staff is friendly - but sometimes slow to respond... Anyhow, we still recommend this place. And we wish that they will take care of it.
