STOP HERE and read!!! :-) First of all i have to say that i really dont understand some strange, bad reviews about this location because: //everybody who deside to travel to vietnam, should know - its not the 1st world - thats not a party destination like we know it in europe - the culture is totally different // everybody who is still reading this :) i write some words about my charakter that you understand why i really loved this pace: // 30 years old // quiet relaxing guy // love to stay in places more outside of rough toursim // working very hard through the year and need to go minimum once a year to the sea and live directly there // im more backbacker in my mind, so this resort was more than luxury for me :) // About the resort: // very friendly people // directly on the beach // in between 15 minutes walk, beatiful looong, empty beaches around // tourists from young to old feld comfy here // room cleaned every day // sunset // sunrise // snorcheling //

Great value, food and friendly staff”

Food, garden, value

We stayed 6 days at this resort with 2 young boys (2 and 4 years old). Although some reviews were mixed, we had a great time. It's a resort aimed at vietnamese tourists as well, but we greatly enjoyed it because of the large green garden (great for playing), the nice food, the friendly staff (although English was not well spoken). The Bamboo cottages next door are great and attractive, but signficantly more expensive. For our budget, Mai Phuong was a great experience. The beach is not terrific, but a 5 min walk will bring you to one, so you'll even have some exercise ;)

Nice laid back resort with great garden”

Very nice garden and seaside location, only few tourists together with us in the resort, good value for the money paid

The cheapest way to access is by motorbike rented in Duong Dong, which is also necessary if you want to travel around the area. But be careful not to fall on sandy dirt roads, as we did. Food and drinks prices are similar to other resorts or seaside bars. Good wifi in resort - several routers spead around the resort area. Nice view of the bay. Very few tourists around. Very nice garden with hammocks, tables, benches etc.

Perfect Location”

As a backpacker looking for authentic beach bungalow on a nice beach with good snorkeling Mai Phoung resort was perfect! Little beach with beautiful powdery sand. Snorkeling with corals ideal for beginner or other. Staff friendly, laid back service but there is no need to rush here! Other resorts in the area cost much more and they don't have the best sand like here. Nothing to do at night but you can stroll to eat elsewhere if you wish and there are lots of different little beaches to choose from. If you want an authentic experience then this is the place to come!

All wrong, but in a charming manner.”

This is a hotel at a beach in the middle of nowhere. No luxeries, crappy WiFi, but friendly and charming staff with a great willingness to solve problems in an unconventional and truly unburocrmanner.

The place is at the beach of the Indian Ocean, facing South. It is far away from civilization, accessible by sand road only. Very little tidal rise, but rocky sea bottom. But, May Phuong 2 is only minutes away (walking distance) with a marvelous sandy beach facing West (great sunsets), a nice restaurant and attentive staff. Basically, all goes wrong in this hotel, but the owner and his staff have a charming way to get out of the predicament. When our motorbike stalled, they simply gave us a staff member's bike - no formalities, no down payment, no signatures. Take it and have a good day. That is more worth than any fancy room or endless drink listing.

Beautiful and romantic location”

Really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful and unspoilt beach bungalow. Bungalows were simple but pretty, cleaned everyday, as was the beach which was only a few steps from the front door of our bungalow. Sunbeds and hammocks are available for all as well as seating and tables in a well kept garden. Owners and Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant had a great selection of food choices including the best vegetarian selection i have found over here..huge amount of meat choices too. The bungalows are in a quiet location so a taxi or bikes are needed to get to other places of interest or restaurants other than those at local resorts. A perfect place to visit for relaxation or romance 😊

Far away!!!”

Close to other quet beaches if you rent a scooter and go round the island

We booked 2 nights here and only stayed for one it was about 50mins scooter ride from the centre which is fine if you like to be in a quiet area but very little near the hotel. The view was nice from the restaurant with the sea coming near but if you want to sunbathe on the beach it is not the best and rocks in the sea so difficult to swim too! The rooms were basic. Not the best stay on phu quoc!

Decent but very isolated hotel ”

proximity to deserted beaches

We stayed in a beachfront bungalow hoping for some romance and relaxation during our honeymoon. Our room was infested with small red ants, which needed to be dealt with. The bungalow was surrounded by paths so there was little to no privacy. Between our room and the beach was outdoor seating for the resort restaurant, which was always occupied by cigarette smoking staff and drivers. This was a downer because it meant our windows were nearly always closed. Otherwise, the grounds were well taken care of and spacious. The hotel prides itself as environmentally friendly. Thus, all room electrical hooked up to a main switch such that no overnight fans or AC without overhead light on. The hotel is located about 45 minutes by taxi from Duong Dong/ Airport. The beach was basically unswimmable and next to non-existent. Tour groups are run in and out every day by obnoxiously loud boats so expect the restaurant to always be busy in the afternoon and slow & mediocre every other time. Contrary to its stated goals of environmental stewardship, garbage is dumped on the beach about 10 feet from the farthest bungalow, and disturbingly close to a popular scuba/ snorkeling reef destination. The shining star of this resort is its close proximity to deserted stretches of nice beaches- be sure to rent a motor bike to check them out. When leaving and requesting a taxi, be prepared to pay full taxi price for a resort-run car packed with other travelers at their convenience and not yours.

Very mixed feelings about this place....”

The food was great - a bit pricey by mainland vietnam standards but very good quality. The room was also really good value at 25 dollars, and the grounds were very nice - plenty of places to relax

A mixed bag. Like I said, the food was great, the location and grounds were good and the room was actually pretty good value. However, don't come if you are a fan of good customer service.... The staff are slow and seem unengaged, which is fine for a while but when you are staying for a number of days it just gets a bit grating. Plus, there didn't seem to be anyone out of a staff of about 20 who could actually communicate properly in English. when English is the national language for tourists you would expect at least one staff member to be able to help you. However, the thing that really changed my mind happened on the last day. We had arranged (after much confusion and hassle) for the owner to book us a ferry ticket and taxi to leave the island. When it came time for us to leave, we did indeed get a ferry ticket and a staff member took us in place of a taxi. He dropped us at a pier and told us the ferry would arrive at one thirty. So we sat at a cafe and waited for about an hour. At quarter past one, no ferry had arrived and we asked a local when it would get in. They told us that we were 10km away from the port that the ferry actually left from! The staff member had dropped us at the wrong place even though it was him who took us to buy the tickets! We then had a mad dash to try to catch the ferry but didn't manage it. We had to stay another day on the island ( this time in a much worse area) and buy another set of ferry tickets. I'm sorry, but our experiences with the staff here really weren't good.

90% of a luxury beach hotel at 25% of the cost”

Price, space, food

This wasn't the cleanest or best serviced hotel I've ever seen, but for the price it was wonderful! The food was fantastic, though the service could be slow, and the whole place was very relaxing, with lots of space to wander around and read and lots to do when you got bored of that (kayaks, snorkeling, etc.)

Wonderful spot but a bit out of the way”

Queit with beautiful beaches and fantastic sea food

Initially we were dismayed that our hotel was so far from the town but we shared a taxi from the Airport and then hired a motorbike for one day. Please beware though that we saw/heard of lots of accidents as the roads are gravel with heaps of occasional sand. The beach over the headland is wonderful with a nice beach bar and lovely clear sea Nd the sea food was wonderful.

One of the oldies n goldie’s of accommodation. Perfect for those who appreciate a place with heart. ”

We loved staying in the little cottage right on the beach. Tho the garden rooms were lovely too. A gem from yester year. A perfect place to relax read snorkel swim canoe or just hang around in hammocks. You can take little trips to local fishing villages and surrounds. The staff were friendly Mr The / Tommy was terrific. From electrics to trip advice or pond or wi fiIt felt like a little family of other guests n staff. One day 4 of the guests wanted to go on a snorkeling trip. All staff and any other available guests helped push the dinky boat out .... It was hilarious and a trip worth taking. We highly recommend a stay here before such places are taken over upgraded and spoiled. Not 5 star but top marks!!! Loved it.

Mai Phuong Review”

Remote location, quiet environment, great garden

Our stay was great. We enjoyed every single day at the resort. The place is very far from the main tourist location so if you are looking for place to rest this is it.

Nice place Horrible staff”

Beach location, affordability and nature around.

Nice place and cheap to stay book beforehand on agoda for whole length of stay as the prices they change at about twice the price. It is a long way away from everything city wise. So if you have a motorbike or ore arranged transportation there it is a fantastic place. On the beach with lots to discover about. He only thing is the staff are a bunch of unprofessional teenagers who make mistakes often and get grumpy like a sixteen year old irl when you try and forest their mistakes. Not very relaxing when you have to go per the whole bill and right their mistakes while she throws a tantrum and shouts at you in Vietnamese. The older staff don't really care and are not their to help until she calls them to come and sort hints of becauseh doesn't want to all to you any more. To be confronted by the owner/boss by saying sorry her father died last week! (With a smile on bitty of their faces) pretty cool about the loss of her father it seems. Do not get washing done her very expensive and toke 2 days. Food is ok but again super expensive. Breakfast for 2 about 200Dong for juice coffee and pho. Dinner if you want to try fish or any seafood expect anywhere from 500 upwards. As it is so remote there is no where else I eat except the city what is an hours drive away. So this cancels out the cheapness of the hotel! In shirt beauiful remote location not bad price except food and drink! Awful staff who do not wish to help one little bit makes you feel like a teacher having to look after all the immature and poorly grand people supposedly there to make your stay a nice and comfortable stay. I suggest pay a little more and stay some where nice with staff that are actually happy for you to be there.
