A fabulous place to spend a week!”
We spent six nights at Lumbalumba Diving Resort in Manado, North Sulawesi. It had been recommended on Lonely Planet and I booked through Agoda, though the latter mistakenly told us that it was not available for the full 10 days of our stay in Manado. Too bad. But the six days we spent there were extraordinary. Where to start? The resort consists of separate bungalows, simply but thoughtfully designed. Everything works, everything is clean. The view when we woke up in the morning was unbelievable: from our porch we could see across the immaculate garden the islands of Bunaken and Manado Tua, the latter a perfect cone-shaped volcanic mountain arising out of the water. One can never grow tired of the view, and sunset is magnificent, too. The Dutch owners, Roel and Yul, haven been running the place for decades and have thought of everything. They manage a superb Indonesian staff. The diving/snorkelling supervisors are excellent, helpful, careful, safety-conscious, fun to be with.
