Delightful Stay”
My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Lone Pine Hotel, Batu Ferrenghi, Penang. We found the hotel to be very clean, quiet and well located. It's right on the beachfront with outside water sports available, close to mini-marts and restaurants and a large night market just a short walk from its front door. The room we stayed in was spacious with a huge bed, large bathroom/shower, a roomy balcony which had a small spa, sofa, table and chairs. We were stunned when we first walked in and saw our great accommodation. The staff was courteous and friendly, greeting us with smiles the whole time and nothing was too much trouble. A minor problem with the free wifi and connection strength in the room was quickly rectified with the placement of a router in our own room with full bars of strength received by our tablets. Our bar fridge was stocked with complimentary water and soft drinks and when we were low on the varieties we liked, a quick call to housekeeping saw that type of drink replenished immediately. The breakfast buffet was varied and extensive. It catered for all tastes with a range of cuisines. A Happy Hour from 5pm to 7pm was another delight with cheaper drinks and complimentary bowls of nuts. One afternoon a surprise delivery to our room was a plate of complimentary finger food as thanks for staying at the hotel. We had a great week at The Lone Pine, not wanting to leave. On our departure the General Manager came down to personally say farewell and to wish us safe travels. We have stayed in hotels worldwide and this is the first time to receive such personal service. An unforgettable holiday at the Lone Pine! We'll definitely stay there again.

Grand Old Lady of Bayu Ferringhi”
This is one of the oldest and classiest hotels of yesteryear in Batu Ferringhi. We grew up in Penang when this hotel was exclusively patronised by rich, foreign tourists and had always wanted to stay here. We were not disappointed. The hotel has undergone extensive extension and renovation whilst maintaining its old world charm. The ample grounds give plenty of opportunity for those who want to relax in quiet surroundings under casuarina trees with the sun and sea breeze, and the beach but a stone throw away. Walk outside onto the street and there are many restaurants and hawker centers with a wide array of local food although the prices are "touristy". There are also many little shops selling everything from cheap clothes to trinkets, bags, souvenirs and magic tricks. The Lone Pine is in the middle of a row of luxury hotels which share a wonderful stretch of beach with many water sports to enjoy. Then, in the evenings, there is the sunset to look forward to.

Peaceful Oasis”
After staying at another hotel for 3 days in Penang, we decided to upgrade ourselves to another hotel closer to Batu Ferringhi. After finding a crazy bargain discount on Lone Pine, we booked ourselves another 3 nights here. What a radical difference to our other hotel. This beautiful hotel is right on the beach and in the heart of Batu Ferrinighi but nestled amongst some lovely trees so you could be forgiven in forgetting how close you are to everything. The room was wonderful with a huge comfortable bed, soft pillows, great shower, a bathtub on the balcony, complimentary mini bar and a quiet air-conditioner. The breakfast each morning is incredible. It was a relaxed affair and there is truly something for everyone. The fresh juices each morning and the great selection of teas was wonderful. The pool was another highlight. The atmosphere created around the pool is relaxing and calming. There was a motorbike hire place directly across the road and some great restaurants all a short walk away. This place was definitely a winner.

Superb stay”
Every time I need some short getaway for myself, the first Batu Feringghi hotel option came into my mind is definitely Lone Pine Hotel. This is my 3rd time staying with them and I'm sure there will be many more in the future. I always feel refreshed and relaxed after my stay which I desperately needed after all the hectic days. Laying down by the pool side or hammock or even sitting by the beach, everything is just awesome! Something I would hope to see is the upgrade of their TV channels as it's very limited right now and the movies are repeating throughout the day. Also, the choices for breakfast buffet are the same every day. It can be a bit dull to consume the same things for 3 days continuously. I remember my previous 2 stays were different, perhaps cost constraints? Hopefully they are able to improve on these 2 matters. Overall, Lone Pine Hotel is still my number 1 choice in Batu Feringghi, Penang.

Beautiful colonial style hotel with great service”
i absolutely loved my stay at the lone pine hotel. where do i begin?! the breakfast buffet was wonderful with fresh and local style food too. the rooms are gorgeous and spacious with flat screen tv and a balcony with a bath tub in it.. which was lovely and great for little kids. the pool is wonderful with a view of the beach and poolside service for drinks and snacks. the service here is second to none as they gave us a welcome drink and everyday a box of cupcakes are left on the bed. there is a free bus service to the e&o which is close (walking distance or a quick taxi) to georgetown which has most of the shops and lively part of penang. outside the hotel on the beach, there are many water sports vendors. i chose bala watersports and did parasailing and jet skiing which was great fun. the hotel is located on jalan batu ferringhi and is great as at night there are many night markets open for a haggle and many massage parlours and fish spas. the restaurants are also great and there is a large hawkers centre called long beach just a short walk away. the hotel also lend out bicycles complimentary so that is also a great way to see the lovely town. i will definitely come back here again as it is probably one of the best hotels i have stayed in.

Hospitality is the name of the game”
We used to stay at the "old" Lone Pine before renovation and loved the intimate feel. That hasn't been lost. If you want glitz and glamour, this isn't the place for you. You'll find many more glamorous hotels but you will find it very hard to replicate the genuine friendliness and care provided by Lone Pine staff. From check-in to check-out, we felt like "guests", not just customers. This isn't an accident. It takes hard work, people who enjoy their job, and management that hasn't forgotten why people come to their hotel. The hotel feels like it's in a little wooded kampung beside the sea. The rest of the world goes on outside the gate. There are, it must be admitted, a few little maintenance jobs that need attention around the place but to mention this almost seems like nit-picking. If you like a quiet seaside hotel and staff the way you often wished to find them, try Lone Pine in Batu Ferringhi.

Anniversary Trip”
Sent 4 lovely days at Lone Pine for our 7th anniversary. Was picked up at the airport and arrived at the hotel is about 40-50mins. Check in was quick however they made a mistake with the amount they charge for our airport transfer which was corrected once I spotted it.(Make sure you check all your bill before signing anything). We booked the deluxe room (bed was decorated with flower petals and swan towels) which was facing the sea but there were some trees blocking which wasn't much of a concern for us. Eventho this is the cheapest room, it was designed and decorated perfectly. I loved the bathroom. A little disappointed that there wasn't a sea view while seating by the pool(bushes and gates blocking the view) but I guess its to maintain the privacy for the guests as its on a public beach. Don't bother with the beach outside, its horrible. The night market is just outside the hotel's main entrance We brought a bottle of gin and paid corkage of MYR100 which included mixers and garnishes and were served at the pool. Leona and the other staff from batu bar were extremely helpful. The service at Bungalow(where breakfast is served) was adequate. We attended their wine & dine night, which we thought was really worth the money(the food was pretty good) Don't forget to check out the Pure Energy Spa(in the hotel). One of the best massages we have while traveling around asia plus the massage beds were heated and it was well worth the price. We would definitely stay at Lone Pine again!

Fantastic experience, great service”
Having stayed on Batu Ferringhi many times before we were familiar with the original Lone Pine Hotel, but had never stayed there. Following a major make-over by the E&O Hotel Group who own it, the modern and architecturally pleasing building bore no resemblence to the earlier modest bungalow which was the former hotel and we were intrigued to try it out for a change. We could not have made a better choice. A very smart and chilled hotel with a cool pool and very friendly staff, who could not be more helpful. The rooms were very well appointed and the walk in bath on the balcony was a nice place to sit and sip a glass of wine!!!! The Lone Pine comes highly recommended and we definitely plan to stay there again.

Lovely beach resort”
We arrived late from Georgetown, and were upgraded to a super deluxe room. Rooms are spacious and nicely appointed with a large flat screen TV and luxurious bed. The outdoor plunge pool is a nice touch and makes for a very fun feature. Super deluxe rooms have an additional room with a day bed, which was nice but didn't really add much to the experience - deluxe ones are good enough. The lawns are well-kept and exude a chilled out 50s vibe. It was stylish and colonial at the same time - hard to describe in words. Everywhere you will be cheered by the explosion of colour against the mainly white backdrop. The pool is L-shaped and pretty small but sufficient for a nice soak. There is a "jacuzzi" next to the children's pool, but it's always brimming with kids. The beach is right behind the hotel, and lots of activities are available. You can go jet skiing, parasailing, or get a massage right on the beach. Just remember to haggle a bit on the price, otherwise it's a real rip off. Take a walk along the beach and explore the Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-la next door. A larger sized establishment, but I still like the boutique feel of Lone Pine. Night market stretches for close to 3 km right in front of the hotel, and makes for an interesting shopping trip at night. The food centre is also right next door, offering a myriad of choices that include local laksa, hokkien noodles, char kway teow, even Japanese and Western food. Breakfast was nice and decent, but selection can't compare to top-class hotels. Of course, though, I think this is very value for money. The local food like nasi lemak is good, but the rest was really unremarkable. Overall a nice stay, and very family friendly. Staff are sufficiently polite and helpful, but fall short of what you get at the really top-class ones. I have to commend one of the male staff at the concierge desk, wearing glasses with a slight five o'clock shadow. He provided much assistance and was the most helpful of all.

Simply a gem and left a piece of my heart there! ”
Amazing boutique hotel that I dont regret booking for a two nights stay and would not hesitate to choose it again next time I drop by in Penang. If you love being surrounded by nature, this place has what it takes. The majestic lone pine trees and the garden makes the hotel very unique and will leave you in awe of its natural beauty. The location is excellent. The night market was literally just outside the hotel and 5 mins walk away from the Long beach food court if u choose to enjoy the night scenery n local food. The breakfast buffet had a good mix of western n eastern food and of good quality. The char kuay teow cooked in the morning by the chefs was so delicious and fresh that I went to order it a second time. When in Penang, might as have breaky the Penang way! :) . The am and Pm staff were professional and very helpful. Being a solo traveller , it was important to feel welcome and at home so Im happy I chose to stay here. It was worth every penny!

We are so glad to have made it right for you as at time reading other feedbacks we really wonder and feel pretty down but you reassured us we are on the right track, thanks a million. Super Boutique Hotel with good sized rooms ”
was very pleasantly surprised when arrived here late at night and was greeted by very friendly helpful staff. the hotel setting is delightful, right on the beach (public not private) with a lovely pool and pine trees in abundance which gave a certain amount of privacy about it. i think the downside for me was because the beach is public, you had the constant sound of jet-ski's and screaming girls on the 'banana' ride, which made it difficult to relax by the pool or to have a reasonable lie-in in the morning. there are quite a few other resort hotels in batu ferringhi and they are pretty much the same as each other, whereas lone pine was quite unique

Best place to stay for a relaxing escape in Penang”
We just love this hotel! From the time we stepped into the premise of the place we were in love. I absolutely love the open and contemporary modern design of the place. The rooms that we stayed in were spacious and the best part of it is the bathtub at the balcony. It fits two people comfortably and fills up fast. The staffs were very helpful, friendly and accommodating but not in an overbearing way. My partner left his trousers in the room after we checked out and we only realised it 2 days later. We contacted the hotel to enquire about it and were pleasantly surprised at their helpfulness and prompt service. We got a callback just a few minutes later to inform us that it is there in their lost and found department and that we can come collect it anytime. Besides that the breakfast was great, the location of the hotel itself was in the heart of batu ferringhi and we could easily access the beach from the hotel grounds. The Pool was also a delightful part of our stay. They provide complimentary ice water which was a very nice touch! We will definitely be back! Thank you Lone Pine for an amazing weekend getaway

Fantastic location, amazing getaway”
If you are looking for a tastefully designed hotel with a great location for food, shopping and lazing by the beach, then Lone Pine is the hotel for you. Location -- food, shopping, massage and beach within walking distance outside of hotel. the downside is that it is about 45mins away from the airport. however that is easily solved by asking the hotel to arrange a airport transfer, which you have to pay. but it's worth it because our driver, muru, introduced to us the sights along the way and brought us to a really nice place to get penang food. Breakfast -- good range of choices. love the omelette and the kaya with toast! very prompt clearance of plates during buffet breakfast which to me is a sign of attentive staff. Facilities -- loved the hammocks at the far side of the hotel. really nice place to laze and look out to sea. Sunset is amazing at this place. there is also a nice games room with internet connection and ps3 game box. Kids will love this place. Room -- very spacious and clean. Has a very nice balcony with an outdoor bath to relax in. Bring some bubble bath/bath salts to really enjoy this outdoor bath Service -- it's always with a smile. they were very prompt in answering my queries before the trip. when we were at the hotel, they were able to ensure that my check in and check out was smooth.

Romantic and comfortable”
We enjoyed Lone Pine very much and will return if we travel to Penang in the future. The hotel staff were all very nice and we love that it was a boutique hotel with big comfortable and spacious rooms. The architecture of the room was very nice - it was modern mixed with beach destination style. The hotel balcony had a great tub for soaking in the sun as well. The location of the hotel was close to some night-markets and nearby hotels as well. We love the swimming pool at the hotel, however, if you are looking for a beach, the beach right outside the hotel didnt look too clean and had a lot of people trying to sell things, which we suspect is with most beaches in Penang though. We really enjoyed our stay!

Superb hotel, brilliant staff”
it was our anniversary and the hotel made us feel very special. We had an excellent stay at the Lone Pine Hotel, this is a small boutique hotel ideal for couples. It does not have the flashy kids clubs etc. just a lovely quiet, relaxing garden and pool. large comfortable rooms and wonderful friendly, staff. the hotel is situated virtually on the beach and has fantastic views of the sea, and a welcome breeze. There are some very nice touches, such as free soft drinks in the mini bar, complimentary water, flowers and fruit in your room and a bathtub on the balcony, which is very large with sofa, table eg . The night market and hawkers food market is practically on your doorstep, so you can stock up on noodles and Rolex at the same time. If you are looking for a relaxing, intimate stay chose the Lone Pine. I would not recommend this hotel for children.

Spacious room and superb location”
Before deciding to stay at Lone Pine Hotel, I did a little research by reading reviews from previous guests. Well, the stay at Lone Pine certainly met my expectations. What I like most is the spacious room (I stayed in the Deluxe room, which is the cheapest being offerred) and the plunge pool on the balcony is just wonderful. I requested for a room on higher floor but was told they're all full and was given a room on the 1st floor instead. Then, I requested a room farthest from the bungalow as I didn't want to be bothered by the noise from the kitchen. However, please be mindful that the units on the other end from the bungalow is the nearest to where they'd organise weddings. I was lucky though as there was no wedding scheduled during my stay there. Hotel staff were friendly and greets you with a smile all the time. All in all, it was a great weekend getaway for me and will definitely return to Lone Pine.

Classy reinvention of an older hotel”
we remember the lone pine as a rather run-down place, certainly atmospheric but well past its sell-by date. however the e&o have done a great job of reinventing this hotel as a sort of legacy-boutique spot. externally there are nods to the colonial-bungalow past (the lone pine dates from 1948), internally all is chic minimalism. rooms are a good size, ditto balconies and bathrooms. we loved the sunken bathtub-on-a-balcony idea. the garden is spare but pleasant with mature casuarinas lining the beach. buffet breakfast offers a huge choice. we ate once at matsu, the hotel's japanese restaurant, which was ok but we wouldn't rush back. the staff were outstanding -- friendly and helpful. the hotel doesn't have much to offer children; the golden sands next-door is a better bet for families.

BOUTIQUE HOTEL”
Lone Pine is smack in the middle of everything you need in Batu Ferringhi. Really nice landscapinhg & gardens, only a few metres from the beach. Staff are vey obliging & friendly, we have nothing bad to report. Major renovations will be proceeding shortly so I would advise checking out progress before making a booking. The night markets are just outside the door & every night we ate at Long Beach Caf, about 50 metres away. The food is awesome & generally, people are polite & friendly. We wpoulds definitely stay at Lone Pine again.

Relaxing weekend getaway”
We spent two nights at Lone Pine with two young children. The room was huge - it had a receiving area with a daybed that could sleep two people, a big bedroom, wide veranda and bathroom with a full size bath tub. We stayed in a corner suite, which had a slightly bigger cut. The hotel feels a bit shabby chic. Breakfast was average, though it did have a good selection of local fare. We spent much of our time at the pool - very inviting set up, with teepees, bean bags and comfortable deck chairs all around. However one side of the pool had lots of old floating pine needles, leaves and whatnot. I asked staff to clean it as you had to wade through it to get into the pool but I guess it's a fruitless exercise since the tree branches were positioned over the pool (so things would fall into the pool anyway). The restaurant's roof also had layers and layers of old pine needles and since the roof was angled, logically those old pine needles ended up in the pool as well. Location also walking distance to Long Beach hawker centre which is one of the top five hawker centres in Penang.
