Amazing Location, Oh those views!”

There's TONS of bargain accommodation in Cat Ba town, especially out of season (December was almost DESERTED!) but this place has the edge in terms of location. The tourist strip is a line of concrete buildings with shops and restaurants at street level, they're ok if you like that kinda thing but this place is a few hundred meters past the end of these on its own private headland. Delightful! I can't vouch for the dorm rooms though my fellow guests seemed happy enough, I had the one double en-suite. Downside was that it was a bit characterless and dated, and the tiled floor above could be a bit noisy at times. Upside was the huge window with dreamy island and junk boat view. Grew to love it. There are benches on 2 levels outside with decent food and drinks on offer. Was woken one morning at 6 by a hoard of Chinese tourists who have no qualms about noisily wandering onto private property at dawn! The owner is a genuinely lovely bloke with great English, he and his family made me feel very welcome, was chuffed to join the local blokes of all ages jovially watching the British footie! The staff are sweet and are trying to improve their pigeon English, good service too. I booked a boat trip via here and was delighted, characterful, great super friendly guides and amazing food, not at all the gaudy and lary cruises that (occasionally) haunt Ha Long bay. I have fond memories of Le Pont and hope you enjoy it too.

awesome location sind most stunning views ”

we stayed in a bungalow for three nights with amazing views over the ocean from our window. couldn't find a better place on cat ba island. breakfast was a great choice of local and western food buffet with fresh fruit and salad. bungalows are nice, clean and cozy. bathrooms super clean, also public ones. very good location, just five minutes by foot to central passing beautiful floating fish restaurants. !!!The best though was the food at the sister hotel “le pont“ in town. my highest recommendation to go for dinner. freshest and most delicious seafood we have tasted in a long time!

Perfect place to recharge”

I ended up spending two weeks on Cat Ba Island and a huge reason why is because this hostel was the ideal place to stay for a while and recharge before resuming my travels. Delicious breakfast buffets every morning, waking up to the ocean waves lapping over the rocks, several decks and balconies for reading or relaxing, stunning beaches a few minutes walk up the road and town and all the restaurants a few minutes the other way. Easy to meet other travelers in the dorm room. Lovely, professional staff. Rooms were cleaned extensively around the same time each day. Would 10/10 recommend!

Hostel with character and great location”

We stayed 2 nights in a private bugalow with shared bathroom first night then private on the second. The beds were really comfortable and the views of the bay are brilliant. The location of the hostel is a short walk from the main stretch of other hostels/hotels which meant you could walk there when needed although the hostel do offer scooter hire which we did on both days for around £3.50 a day. It's a great place to stay and explore Cat Ba Island.

Best Location on the Island”

I traveled alone in Vietnam by motorbike for over 2 months & this was one of the nicest hostels I stayed in. I actually stayed at another hostel my first night on Cat Ba but didn't like it so spent a few hours driving around looking at hostels & this one is BY FAR the best. The location was perfect: it'a about 1 km away from the city - close enough to walk in for food, but far enough away to not be bothered by all the busloads of tourists. The view from Le Pont was incredible: it's situated on the tip of a peninsula with spectacular views of both the bay & the town. I stayed in the dorm room for 96,000 dong (less than $5), which included a HUGE buffet breakfast, cooked to order eggs & more food than you can imagine. I've recommended this place to a bunch of other travelers i met along the way & you should stay here too.

Nice hostel with fantastic location”

Same as other reviews, there's nothing else to say about this place's location but one word: Fantastic. This could be considered as the hotel with the best view in Cat Ba, which is even more impressive if you take a look at such low price they offer. We stayed in the double room on the top roof (there's just 2 of those) for only $10. It's quite a small room but comfortable. They have AC and the window look right to the bay. Sometimes looking out from that window makes me feel like I'm on a cruise in the middle of the bay. There's also a large yard in front of the room with tables. An amazing place to watch sunset (see photo). Downside is that they don't have fridge and the room would be a bit hot at first in the summer time (when the AC is off) The staff is nice and helpful. They're willing to help out with any question you have regarding to what to do and where to go in the area. There's nothing special to say about the food here honestly. We had breakfast with egg, butter with bread and some tea, which are edible. I would recommend you to walk a bit down to the city where there's various of options. It just take about 10 mins walking. However the biggest drawback of the place is perhaps its facility. If you stay in a dorm or double bed rooms, you shall have to share the bathroom and there's only two. Good point is that they're all clean.There's also just a limit number of rooms and beds. I had a chance to take a look at the dorm. A decent and organized place with lots of privacy. So if you're the type of person who values the great view and location more than a comfortable and luxurious room, you'll definitely not regret staying here. A perfect place for backpackers. But if a high class comfortable bed or a large private room is a must to you, this is not the best offer.

Very friendly staff. We ate some local fruit together, they will help you with everything. We really liked the bar. Nice place, amazing view. The bungalows were clean. Very close to the beach. This place was perfect! We think this is the best place to stay in Cat Ba!

Exceptional”

Just far enough away from the 'action' of Cat Ba town but an easy walk (~10 minutes) if you feel the need to wander that way. Therefore, convenient, easy to get to, very affordable, delightfully pleasant & helpful staff, nice views of the harbor, especially the stunning sunset, & everything you could need right on sight. Highly recommend.

Relaxing hotel in a great location. ”

My husband and I stayed at the Le Pont in their private bungalow. I would definitely recommend this place because, it’s clean, offers great views of the harbor, and it’s walking distance to many restaurants, cafes, and Lan Ha Bay tour operators. What I love most about this place is the staff - they are so friendly, helpful, and honest. I’m used to getting scammed at hostels, so I’m always on guard. At this place, they charged a fair, honest price and they even give you a 10% discount if you eat at their restaurant.

We were on the bus up to the hostel and we saw Le Pont out of the window and said "that looks amazing, I wish we were staying there"... turns out that was Le Pont!! Even the bus driver said it was very beautiful. Great location, 10 minute walk from town, but worth being a bit away from town. 5-10 min walk to two lovely beaches. Can hire a scooter for 100,000 dong for the day. Definitely recommend the $15 day tour - was superb value for money! Room had spectacular views, but was very basic. But we were only there to sleep so didn't mind!

Good location and breakfast”

Good location not too close or too far from the centre. We stayed there in the beginning of March, there were tens of new buildings under construction in the town centre, and we were quite lucky to escape from dust and noise which starts around 6:30 am everywhere in the town . Still, the fishing boats around the Le Point hostel can still make annoying noise at night, but for us it was rather interesting to observe the action on the bay. The hostel has very good breakfast buffet: fruits,omelet, salad, tomato and cucumber slices, pancakes (note that you have to order the pancakes, these are not on the buffet table, so you can have them fresh and hot). The rooms are clean and simple, but the upstairs terraces are excellent spots where to enjoy the sunset. The staff is friendly and helpful. We didn’t take any tours, but the info seemed well presented and clear, probably some hotels in the town center offer better price.

Avoid building 6 unless you're planning to close out the bar”

I'm prefacing this negative review with the many positive points Le Pont Bungalow has going for it. It's in a beautiful location overlooking the bay and a short walk to the beach. The bar and restaurant have several tables set amidst an incredible view. These are features that drew us to book three nights at Le Pont Bungalows for our stay in Cat Ba. Unfortunately we were offered a substandard room that did not allow us to enjoy any of this. We had booked a double private bungalow with sea view and bathroom at 2-3x the rate of a comparable hotel room in Cat Ba in early November. When we checked in we were dismayed to find our bungalow was located directly inside the bar! The bungalow backed onto the sound system and bar seating surrounded the bungalow. There were two hostel bungalows beside ours (though they were somewhat buffered from the noise by our bungalow (building 6). The remaining bungalows, including all other private bungalows at the higher price we were paying were located on levels above - away from bar noise and with sweeping views. Had we been located on the upper level we may have loved our time at Le Pont. However, as it was, we attempted to give our bungalow a chance but as pumping music and bar chatter intensified as the night went on we found it impossible to sleep. We were forced to pack up and find new accommodation in the middle of the night - our bungalow was simply not habitable. To the hotel's credit they did accept cancellation of the two additional nights we had intended to stay at Le Pont Bungalow. Still it's hard to accept the sour taste of receiving the single substandard bungalow at a price point far above the hostel rate and Cat Ba average. Our advice to the hotel is to remove bungalow 6 from operation, or, at the very least, offer it at a reduced rate and full disclosure to prospective guests that it's a budget bungalow suited to those seeking to party late into the night. It is not acceptable to continue renting this room at full r

Fantastic view!”

The location was great. It was not in the middle of town(that's why we chose it), but not too far either. Besides, you can rent a scooter at $4 a day and it made easy to go anywhere around the area. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food at the restaurant was not great, but we've found other restaurants in Cat Ba were not great either.. Wifi was very slow probably because too many people were using at the same time. The room (bungalow) was nice and clean. The only problem with the room was the smell from the shower drain. We believe there is no p-trap to prevent the smell from lower drain pipes as we stayed at the top floor. They really need to fix it!

Cool Bamboo Shack”

This was the coolest place you can stay on Cat Ba. The private bamboo shacks are really cool, yes, they aren’t fancy and the windows are really think. So you might need to sleep with ear plugs, but this view is breathtaking! For this price it’s really good, in my opinion! Breakfast was good, too.

Great Hostel!”

Le pont hostel has a good location only 5min walk away from town centre with a super nice view over the sea. Enough space in the rooms, clean bathroom/ room and friendly and helpful staff. Also nice bar/restaurant area. Breakfast was amazing (pancakes, bread, egg, fruits, tea, coffee). All in all we had a perfect stay, thank you!! :)

It’s ok for the price and great view”

We had the bungalow with private bathroom and it was nice, the bungalows are on the rooftop of the hostel. It’s better than the hotel in town, more calm, better view and 5min in scooter from the beach (although note that there is construction (of resort) in all the beaches of cat Ba....). Restaurant not very good but prices ok for what you get. Note that you can rent scoot (4$) but they give them empty in gaz (which was not the case with other hotels on our trip) so go to the gaz station in town for cheaper price (do not go to the bridge... you will be ripe off)

Probably one of the best spots to stay on Cat Ba if you like to have any stunning view over the harbor. We stayed in one of the smaller bungalows on the rooftop and really liked it. Although the bungalows are not very soundproofed. The terrace is a beautiful place to enjoy the sun. The food was OK, but breakfast time is only until 9.

Stayed 2 nights while in Cat Ba. Amazing view and only a 5 minute walk to town. Staff were helpful in bookings and also for getting a good rate on a scooter. Cheers to the barman as well

The views and the value!”

when we booked this Hostel we had no idea how great it would be. When the bus from the ferry was dropping off other travelers, we were not impressed with most of the hotels and hostels we had seen. We were with another couple being the last to be dropped off and just past the busyness of the city we saw our destination on the hill looking over the bay. Close enough to the city but far enough away from the noise. It is a 5 minute walk to the bustling center of the city or a 5 minute walk to other direction to a gorgeous beach! The Hostel can organize tours and will rent motorbikes to explore the island. As a guest you do not have to surrender your passport for the privilege, which is a nice bonus. The rooms were clean and services daily. Plenty of wet bathrooms if you end up in a room with a shared bathroom. The ONLY complaint is that the staff could be a bit more attentive. Service on the terrace is slow and you have to actually call staff over even if it is to replace an empty beer.

I decided to stay here after walking past the week prior on a day visit to Cat Ba from Hai phong. After reading reviews I wasnt expecting much as they were quite mixed. It was a ok stay. The staff were quiet rude but other then that the location was really nice and a short walk to a nice beach up the hill. Enjoyed the breaky!
