We booked Larnach because it looked interesting and it didn’t disappoint. We had room 19 and on opening the door we were greeted with a magnificent view across the bay. The room was well appointed, the bed was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 night stay. We had 2 soft chairs in the room and 3 chairs on the balcony. Breakfast was served in the stables across the yard and the selection was good. We had a small problem with after hours access when the gates wouldn’t open one evening and it took a few minutes to get a response from the emergency button but the gates were then opened immediately. We ate in on one night. It is done house party style, a big group sit around a huge table in the castle dining room. At $80 a head it was excellent value as the price includes a pre dinner drink, wine with the meal and 3 courses with coffee and petit fors. The food was very good. Menu choices need to be made by 5pm beforehand.

One of a kind experience in Dunedin”
We loved our stay at Larnarch Castle. We got a special package deal through Agoda which included accommodation at the castle lodge, entry to castle and gardens, dinner and breakfast. The castle was amazing to explore and the accommodation was beautiful. The heated floor in the bathroom was luxurious and little touches like hot chocolate sachets, biscuits and a bag of toffees included with the tea and coffee were unexpected pleasures. But the highlight of our stay was the three course dinner including pre dinner drinks in the castle's music room. It was a wonderful chance to meet other guests. The food was superb. The tomato and capsicum soup was divine and was my favourite dish of the night. Breakfast included a smorgasbord continental serving including cereals and museli, fruits and yoghurt, pastries and jams and juices, tea and coffee as well as a choice of hot options from the menu. Staff at the castle were wonderful and welcoming. I hope to visit again in the future.

Pure Class”
We’re still trying to work out how a team of people could maintain a castle and beautiful gardens to such a high standard. We’re overwhelmingly impressed with the passion, friendliness and professionalism of every staff member we met, from cooks to gardeners. There was a sparkle in every eye, genuine pride in every face. We loved dinner in the music room; we felt like royals must feel in this elegant heritage setting. Breakfast in the stables was all anyone could ask for. We’re glad we stayed two nights. Two great breakfasts!

Castle Lodge Stay”
Loved staying here,we stayed for one night in the lodge and also booked dinner. The lodge was very cute and the views from the room were amazing. It’s more of an experience than staying in a modern hotel- you feel like you are stepping back in time! Being able to look around the castle included within your stay was also a plus and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The dinner was incredible, a real one off experience and the food was exceptional! Thoroughly recommend staying here and reserving dinner, it’s just magical!

The best possible experience in Dunedin!”
Dunedin is great, but the view from the castle is the best experience. Waking up overlooking the beautiful shorelines, strolling through the castle gardens early morning and having breakfast in the stables - what is not to love about this experience! The castle grounds are an absolute gem! One wonderful memory created with this overnight stay and not to forget the lovely staff, you made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

Wow this place is so nice. We stayed at the stables and it was a warm welcoming room. The breakfast at the ballroom cafe felt really romantic with the fireplace, music and food. It was free to see the castle and the garden grounds while we were there. A real value for money. We tried the dinner at the castle, food was good but we werent the social type so it was a bit awkward😂. After Larnach, I did not want to stay in a hotel room for the rest of our trip😊.

From the moment we arrived after hours we felt welcome. Staff were very inviting and helpful. I especially loved being able to wander around the grounds after the bus groups had all left and the early morning wander through the castle where we could take our time and enjoy this amazing castle. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Everything about it was great.. the building, accommodation, breakfast, views from room and the history of the building. All presented fabulously. One of the best places I have been in NZ but add in a visit to Olverton house too! That will bring the period history together brilliantly!

The Larnach Castle experience must not be missed if you visit Dunedin. Stay on a Friday if poss and add on the Dining Experience in the Castle dining room. Great value at $80 pp The Lodge Rooms have unbelivable views and you wake up to the spectacular sunrise. An unforgettable memory.

A must visit place in Dunedin ”
Such a special place to visit. Exceptional value for money. Includes bed and breakfast and admission to house and gardens. Would really recommend paying for the dinner in the castle dining room. Wonderful food and ambience. Make it a perfect place for celebrating a special occasion. Room was even better than looked online. Spacious and spotlessly clean. We had the blue 'Sea' room and had some of the best views of all the rooms. Will definitely return one day probably in a warmer season.

The views from the room were fabulous. The bathroom was spacious, great water pressure and warm as toast. Comfortable bed and a generous sized queen room. I was on a solo scooter tour, and included the dinner option, which was delicious and a great way to chat to others around the communal dining table. The breakfast was one of the best selections I have ever experienced. Great spot to explore further around Saunders Cape and the Peninsular. Loved it
