Excellent place to stay in Fox Glacier”

The staff at check-in couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We arrived after a long day's drive from Westport and took up their suggestion of a late afternoon drive and short walk to beautiful Lake Matheson, then a short drive on to a scenic spot where we had an amazing view of Fox Glacier. Well worth the drive! We picked up supplies at the well stocked General Store and cooked our dinner on the BBQ at the motel. Our kitchenette was very well stocked and thoughtfully set out. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean and attractively decorated with splashes of red. Even the coffee cups matched the furnishings! There is a laundry room on the premises with very reasonable charges for washing and drying. We were disappointed that we were only staying one night as we felt very comfortable in this motel. Highly recommended!

Clean & Comfortable”

I was told that Fox Glacier is the best place to try out skydiving and true to its reputation, my experience was amazing. Lake Matheson Motel is about 5-10mins walk to the air base. The amenities provided is one of the best I have come across during my 3-week stay in NZ. The only downside is probably food wise. As it is a rather small town, there isn't much choice, but you can always whip up something yourself with the fresh ingredients their supermarkets have.

Welcomed and everything we neef”

Fox Glacier is quite expensive with hotels and hostels. I think Lake Matheson motel is the best value, not the cheapest but value for money. Very clean, hob and microwave

Nice friendly comfortable motel”

Fox Glaxier is a small village so you can't get too far from it. Lake Matheson motel is just 50m from the main road. The staff is very friendly and helpful with advise on where to view the glacier. She walk us to the room where parking is right in front of it Overall very good except the toilet is so cold with no heating element. I had to keep the door opened when not using so as to let the warm air also circulates the toilet. I believe if we had been there during Summer, it wouldn't be necessary and the stay would have been very enjoyable.

A great stay ”

We stayed two nights. Everything was very clean. Spacious room. Everything you need for travelling. Loved the red retro armchairs. It was good we could sit outside too. The staff were so friendly and helpful too. We had a good chat with them. I think it was Mike and Lyn (?), apologies if I have the names wrong! We t to the viewpoint which was past lake Matheson on recommendation from mike, great views. Also lake Matheson, and lake Gault (this was a bit of a trek though worth it). We would recommend this motel.

The motel is quite close to town center, though Fox Glacier is a very small town. The motel is in between the glacier and lake matheson, so it is good location if you'd like to visit both places. The motel does not provide full kitchen facilities, which is a bit inconvienient when there is limited food choice in town.

Great quiet venue”

The motel is about a 5-10 min walk to the main township of Fox Glacier. When we arrived, the room was only prepared for 2 people when we had booked it for 3. The staff immediately prepared the sofa bed without any fuss. They were friendly and gave us great recommendations. Once you step outside the room, the surrounding scenery is gorgeous. Quite a good place to stay.

Nice stay”

Fox glacier was a small area without a grocery store so remember to get your groceries from the bigger Franz Josef or even hokitika. The receptionist was friendly and gave us directions to the different trails nearby.

Comfortable Motel short walk to town”

Very comfortable, quiet and clean accommodation short walk to Fox Glacier for tours and shopping. Friendly staff, great self catering kitchen and very roomy accommodation. Happily recommend.

Good place to stay ”

Nice motel to stay before heading to Lake Matheson and Fox Glacier in the morning. Not too far from the restaurant and supermarket. Great room and view.

Wonderful stay”

Fox Glacier is a quaint, quiet little town. Very pleasant. Manager was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Would definitely stay there again.

Excellent stay in Fox!”

Had a pleasant stay in this motel for 1 night. The staff was very helpful and provided good advice about the surrounding areas of interest. Located just a short drive away from Lake Matheson with exceptional views especially in the morning!

Beyond expectation ”

When I book this motel I didn't expect much other than a bed and a hot shower. It's actually beyond my expectation. The place is very clean and comfortable. It's within walking distance to the glacier trip center and restaurants. We had dinner at the Big Foot. The pork rib is so delicious! Couldn't make it with Last Kitchen as we didn't have reservation and didn't want to wait :(

Very good”

Room and ensuite were a good size, the heater was powerful and the shower pressure was good. The cover for the car parking was great and meant we could load and unload the car with shelter from all the rain! When we arrived we were disappointed to see that the door for our room was left wide open as is the case for all rooms being checked into. This is probably to air the room out, but it meant there were quite a lot of sandflies in the room which was a pain and meant we got a few bites. A few other issues were that the ensuite was freezing cold and although the kitchenette was adequate it did not have any hot plates. In all other places we have stayed in, if there are no hotplates in the room, there's a shared kitchen for cooking. This isn't the case here, but if you can make do with just a microwave then no worries! Overall, good location and perfectly good place to stay for our short visit to Fox glacier.

Simple friendly accommodation”

We were arrived late at around 8 pm and the owner/staff still welcomed us with smile and our rooms were ready and warm. But the most impressed moment was when our car was stuck in the mud in the middle of nowhere, where we did not know who can help us, motel owner was there to help us with one gentlemen surround the area. They came quick and help to pull our car out of the mud. They even allowed us to have late checkout since we need to wash ourself. Thank you for the hospitality and friendliness. Never found this kind of hospitality and friendliness in other motel or even 5 stars hotel chain in the world. Two tumbs up....can not asked for more. We were happy and all of our family and friends send big gratitudes to the hotel owner/staff. THANK YOU !

We did what most people do, I suspect and stayed just the one night, but it was comfortable and clean. Great suggestion by host to visit the Lake Matheson cafe - fantastic views.

MODERN ROOMS, GREAT LOCATION - INTERNET VERY POOR ”

We only spent a night at the motel, but it was very comfortable, modern, clean and service wonderful. What I really hated is that we were given a few vouchers for the internet, but it was hopeless. We tried to send a few pictures to our family and that alone chewed up the 1st voucher, then the 2nd, 3rd a 4th. That was the only draw back, everything else was superb. Highly recommended to others, if you are not reliant on the internet. Phone service here is great though as an alternative.
