Discomfort Inn - OK for a night, but not for longer”

This was my second week-long stay at Phu An Hotel, which I chose because it was located near my HCMC responsibilities. During the first visit, I thought the place was having a bad week and would be better when I returned; during the second visit, I learned I'd been optimistic. I found this hotel noisy (not just because of the airplanes), poorly maintained (my second room had two holes in the walls, one with electrical wires exposed; dirt on the floor even after the room was serviced; holes in the towels; and no shower curtain), and permeated by the smell of smoke (there is an ashtray outside the elevator on each floor, even those where rooms are marked "non-smoking," and smoking is permitted everywhere). The staff is pleasant, but more than once the cleaning person entered my room without knocking. The wifi speed varies; sometimes it's too slow to stream a film or play music without being interrupted for buffering. The rooms are poorly lit, and the furniture is uncomfortable for relaxing or working. For 30 years I've been a customer at local hotels in India, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, and the Phu An rates the lowest of the seven where I've stayed in Vietnam and of the others in all locations. A two-star rating seems generous.

This hotel has a two-star rating. As long as you don't expect too much, it's satisfactory. It won't be a relaxing stay, though. My room was shabby and poorly lit, and the furniture isn't inviting or comfortable. The television cable was not connected to the wall, but it was easy to connect on my own. The entire building smells of cigarette smoke, and smoking is permitted in the restaurant. The hotel is in the flight path of the nearby airport, with planes overhead night and day, and there is little sound-proofing from the street. The hallways are also noisy; for example, I could hear the lobby music from the third floor.

Short ride from the airport & Good staff”

As well as the good staff in reception, the breakfast was edible even though small basic menu, and access to the airport was great. The flight path wasn't the problem I imagined it could have been (and I'm a light sleeper). The hotel has a car that is not much more expensive than a taxi to get you to your next destination.

Just a typical 2 star hotel”

It was ok to stay there. No wifi and no safe deposit box. No menue for breakfast with just a typical vietnamese noodle soup. I stayed there for 2 nights so I can be close to friend's house at Go Vap.

Wer nah beim Flughafen sein möchte, ist hier richtig. Die Ausstattung ist den zwei Sternen entsprechend. Die Rezeption spricht gebrochen englisch. Ansonsten ist noch anzumerken, dass das Frühstück aus einem zu wählenden getränk, sowie Omlett oder wahlweise vitnamesischen Hühnereintopf besteht.
