You can't beat this location”

This hotel is located near everything in downtown Phoenix. It is very old and has an interesting history filled w movie stars and a ghost (I love "haunted" hotels)! My 15 year old and I enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

Great ambiance and history, and the staff were very nice and approachable. There is a signed book about the history of Hotel San Carlos available for purchase at the front desk - I regret not buying it! ***I would definitely stay here again!**

funky comfort”

This is the second time I've stayed at the hotel, both times sharing a room with my sister while visiting family in Phoenix. Great value. I like its location and personality. If you need upgrades to the latest decor, don't come here.

Historic hotel near airport ”

We went to the hotel San Carlos to experience the history and the hauntings. The history was definitely there an interesting oh, that we did not experience any hauntings. This sweet, little hotel near the airport made it very convenient for us the next day.

Old but good!”

The Hotel is old and out dated - not a honey lets get away for a weekend place. But if you have a budget and want to stay close to downtown or the conference centre, its perfect. Pros: Cheap, pool, air conditioning, clean. Cons: Smells like an old hotel, looks like an old hotel, and feels like an old hotel. Overall, if I had another conference - I would stay there again and save 450.00. ONLY IMPROVEMENTS THEY NEED - COFFEE IN THE MORNING>>>

Very Nice”

This is a beautiful historic hotel. Some negative reviews are about how dated it is but this is a historic hotel- it's supposed to be dated. Lovely decor, super kind staff.

Superb”

After reading some of the negatives I though this hotel might be a gamble but Im so glad I booked it. Reasonable price for a major US city. Comfy beds with good TV selection. Roomswere clean and the htoel staff were also superb. Helpful and friendly. Good Irish bar next door and plenty of places to eat. Nice pool on the 5th foor. I would highly recommend this hotel.

A beautiful old building in a great location, but she really needs a face lift”

The hotel staff was very nice, my room was kept clean, but I feel the aging thrift store looking décor from the 1980s is holding this hotel back. The building is old and so I can overlook the small bathroom and thin walls. This could be a much more successful hotel with the right "set dressing". She needs to look historic and classic, which would not be too hard to do. For example, the door to the pool looks more like an emergency exit to a roof or alley, I was afraid to use it to peek out. The art in the hallways, could definitely benefit from a "less is more" approach. Overall, I would recommend this hotel, yet with a disclaimer that it will be a bit of an adventure.

Historic”

The Hotel definitely has some history to it and, does have it limited modern amenities. The rooms are small in size not ideal for a large family. But good if your a single or couple traveling. The roof top pool is great at night. Also the walls are very then and you can hear what is going on in someone else's room. I found myself being to quiet just because I didn't want people to know my business. The views are great at night. Since there is no controlling the AC your pretty much suck with the same temperature this didn't help my allergies very much. The lounge was a great experience.

Just Not There”

For a boutique hotel, it just doesn’t make the list of places to come back to. No thermostat control (so rooms are too cold in winter for me), walls are paper thin (so I here the kids electronics in the next room, and all night someone getting texts), rooms are quite small, no fridge, carpet is nostalgia but also has that dirty feel.

i loved my stay here even if it was for just one night. would definitely book another room here again if i needed a place to crash from a night of fun.

Don't liked”

Old building (nothing wrong with that) but small rooms and very small bathroom. Hard to take a shower. The bed was clean but with dip in the middle. Not worth what I paid for but location is great.

Won't come back”

Old hotel (they say historic), small rooms, worst ever shower in a hotel (goes from boiling to freezing countless times), useless wifi (use my phone plan during the whole stay), creepy feeling (it is famous as a haunted hotel they say). One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed.

The building is very old and rooms are very small but the staff a very nice and caring. They were flexible in check in and out which was a blessing for a business travel.

Paper thin walls”

Great location, friendly staff. Room very small, old furnishings and carpet but worst part are the paper thin walls. You can literally here every thing that happens or is said next door and in the hallway.

The walls were extremely thin and we could hear the people next door grunting and screaming at 5am, all the way through 10am.

Excellent customer service from all staff, clean and orderly facility, and a lovely vintage historical boutique or a excellent historical and vintage accommodation.
