Clean Decent Hotel, Near Gubeng Train Station”

Hotel 88 Embong Kenongo is quite centrally located. Nearby is a huge mall and you can visit the Submarine Monument next to it. The Gubeng Train Station is just about 10 minutes walk; so if you need to get there, it's quite easy peasy. Do not get confused with a related Hotel 88 Embong Malang, which is also not far away. Hotel 88 EK is clean and comfortable. The passageway may be a little noisy sometimes. They use part of the side corridors on the lower 2 floors for breakfast areas. So, if you want a quieter room, ask for higher floor. Breakfast is a small buffet with quite a good variety. You can ask for freshly cooked omelette. There are juices and hot beverage as well. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. If you need to get to Gubeng Train Station early, Hotel 88 EK is a good choice.

My travel to Surabaya is for business reason. Hotel 88 embong kenongo is located in the center of surabaya city which nearly from my destination in embong trengguli. hotel 88 Embong Kenongo was such a comfort place to stay, feels like home and what i get is beyond what i've spend for this hotel. Really enjoy staying there, and i will stay there again if i go to Surabaya again.

Great Budget Hotel in the center of Surabaya”

Staying in Hotel 88 really worth the money. It has every basic thing we need in a hotel plus it's very cheap. It's in the center of Surabaya so it's easy to go around Surabaya. Hotel 88 is also near Tunjungan Plaza. One of the biggest mall in Surabaya. I considered the breakfast was good according to the hotel price. The hotel had already covered travelers basic need. It has a relatively fast internet, limited but good tv cable, quite room and good in room service. The only downside for this hotel is there was no window. So you basicly need to set your alarm.

Impeccable hotel in downtown Surabaya”

Loved this hotel so much! Seriously, we showed up planning to spend 2 nights, and wound up extending to nearly a week! It was clean and comfortable and extremely conveniently located (though there isn't tons to do in Surabaya, truth be told). The shower was incredible, wifi was blazing fast, and the breakfast buffet was seriously one of the best that we have experienced in nearly 2 years of traveling through Asia. Food was predominantly Indonesian, but so delicious and so many choices. We would just eat it as close to lunchtime as possible and stuff ourselves silly, meaning we wouldn't have to eat again until dinner. For that we'd walk to one of the nearby shopping malls where there were plenty of options and lots of delicious food. The hotel clearly caters to business travelers but it is really top notch. Kept booking through Agoda as we got cheaper prices that the hotel could not match in person. Loved it here so much—one of our favorite hotels in Asia!

Nice Clean Hotel with Free Fast Wifi”

We decided to do a stay-cation at new year eve in Surabaya. My choice being this relatively new 3-star hotel in central location. This hotel has good value, even for NYE. I stayed with family of 4 (2 kids) and had no issue during stay. Check in - check out in a flash. Hotel staff always smiling and attentive. Room and bathroom were clean and tidy. We stayed in king bed room in second floor, which is non-smoking floor. Breakfast was served in second and third floor. Although they don't have restaurant and lack of minibar in room, they served free hot tea and coffee in the lobby, and hot and cold water in every floor. We're happy with this hotel and will recommend it to family who want to visit Surabaya.

Simple clean room. Great location. ”

Hotel is very new, nestled among some private houses. Area is quiet, but safe. Excellent location; walking distance to shopping centre Plaza Surabaya where we can easily settle our 3 meals and kill time by shopping. Within 10min's drive to Gubeng train station, which is excellent since we travel largely by train. Breakfast is simple, but delicious. Try the lotek. The twin room is clean and spacious. There is HBO showing on TV. This is an excellent stopover before heading to Mt Bromo. *Do not trust the taxi booth at Gubeng station! Cited an hr's drive required and wanted to charge us exorbitant rate when the hotel is just half hr's walk away! We eventually managed to reach the hotel within 10min's drive and at half the fare at 30k IDR.

Pros: Room had no window but had adequate space with bath towels,toiletries & bottled water. Breakfast was good with lots of delicious local menu & salads,white bread with spreads etc. Staff were very nice. Near to Surabaya Gubeng Train Station. Can walk if you don't have big luggage. Grab/Uber/Go-Jek for IDR10,000 only from hotel to Gubeng Station. Walking distance to Plaza Surabaya. Can hang out at the lobby sitting/dining area to sip complimentary coffee/tea there & even order room service from the lobby & dine there. The room service menu prices are reasonable. Cons: When big groups arrive,the lobby area gets noisy. At about 5am,rooms near to breakfast area can hear the staff setting up breakfast. :)

OK for a day, but not longer”

I feel a little mean in this review of Hotel 88, as the staff are very friendly and I would like them to succeed. But I need to be objective about the hotel and its services. I used to think that all I needed from a hotel are a comfortable bed, a decent shower, and a good location (I now add free wifi). This hotel does an OK job on all of these. However, this proves how wrong I was - you can address these and still design rooms so poorly that the annoyances overcome these basics. The hotel appears to have been “designed by a builder”-based around what is cheapest and most convenient for the builder rather than what is functional for the user. 1. There is one power point for the room, inconveniently placed - too far away from the desk to charge and use a laptop at the same time. There is no power point in the bathroom. There is a second power point used by the TV that you MIGHT be able to utilize to reach the bathroom if you had a really long cord. 2. The light switches for the bed lights are…by the door. So you have to get up to turn them off when you want to sleep. 3. The “window” is a couple of rows of glass bricks high up in the wall. Combined with the minimalist design it feels a bit like a prison cell. On the second night I changed rooms – there are real windows on the other side, and I strongly suggest you request these rooms. 4. The bathroom mat had shoe-print marks and a dirty dark brown stain. I rang down for replacements and they were very apologetic - this time the stains were only a light yellow. I decided not to use their laundry service. 5. I rang down for an iron/ironing board, but they do not have one. Not really acceptable for a “business” hotel in a major city. 6. Wifi drops out regularly and is pretty slow. If you want somewhere for a comfortable transit stop within walking distance of Gubeng Station, then this place would suit. But for any longer, or as a base for staying in Surabaya, then the poor design and services will be an issue.

Pay less but 5 star service”

The location of the hotel is good, just 5 minutes walk to the shooping mall ~ Surabaya Plaza and Submarine Monument. The staffs are nice and helpful, the bed is comfortable, clean, new and the breakfast is delicious and have many choice. Outside the hotel, there are many taxi(blue bird) is waiting for. You can take is to airport or other places, all taxi is run by meter and is co-operation with the hotel, so the price is fair.

Small comfortable room”

I stayed at this hotel before going to Yogyakarta on a train. The hotel is quite close to the train station and other local monuments. It is also in a close proximity with Surabaya Plaza, one of the trendy shopping and food centers. The staff was friendly and helpful. They provided me with adapter since the prong of my laptop did not fit the outlet in the room. They changed my room to the one with a "view" of a vast sky :-) At least, I did not face the parking structure.

Quiet hotel in a great location”

this was a fantastic find in surabaya. i also have to say that surabaya should get more love on the tourist trail, we enjoyed it far more than malang or bandung. the room had no windows, but this is great for sleep and noise. the only things missing were a safe and refrigerator. the staff were very helpful as well. breakfast was based on indonesian food, and varied over the two days we were there, which was a nice way to sample local food.

This is a great hotel in the center of Surabaya City. Me and my couple were satisfied with that room, so nice, clean, and comfortable. The staff were excellent and friendly, making us feel very welcome. The breakfast was so good. Value for money.

Clean and affordable hotel !”

Taxi voucher from the airport to hotel is about Rp90,000 excluding toll. Journey is about 45mins depending on traffic. Located 10mins walk from Surabaya Plaza and 15 mins walk to Kapal Selam (Russian Submarine). BlueBird metered taxis are easily available outside the lobby. 7-11 is 7mins walk if u exit the hotel are turn left. Small minimart in the lobby that is overpriced and hardly anything on sale. Non smoking hotel and smoking room in the lobby. Small but clean rooms with basic toiletries. LCD TV is wall mounted and strong aircon. Good pressure water heater system with hot n cold water. Rooms are equipped with keycard entry but no safe boxes in the room. Nice Thai/Indo restaurent on the left about 5 mins from the hotel lobby. Excellent food and reasonable prices. Can be busy during lunch hours. Taxis are cheap so dun bother walking as traffic is heavy almost every hour in the city. Overall Surabaya is a nice city with friendly ppl and very clean. Enjoy ur trip there.

as always, 5 stars for my fav hotel in surabaya. i think you can not beat the quality it offers for this price. i always book the cheapest rooms and i am always satisfied. amazing & friendly staff will accommodate ur needs any time. my favourite buffet breakfast!

Comfortable yet cheap”

Nothing short of fantastic for its price. Clean bedrooms, warm showers, air-conditioning and small buffet breakfast at a surprisingly low price. Will go back to this hotel if i ever return to Surabaya. Will recommend as long as they don't increase their price!

Great stay”

Would recommend this hotel. Rooms were small but plenty of room to store bags and all the amenities that you require for a short stay. Breakfast was good with choice of eggs (amongst plenty of other things). Staff were excellent and friendly - always saying hello or good morning to us and making us feel very welcome. One of the night there was a live 5-piece band in the reception - not what you expect in a little city hotel! Great stay and would happily return if we were in Surabaya again.
