"Only a 3 star on cleanliness purely because of the weird smell in our room. It wasn’t pleasant and we couldn’t figure out where it came from in the small room. I was under the impression u shouldn’t flush toilet paper down the loo but there were no “bum guns” or bins for toilet paper so maybe it’s ok in that part of Malaysia?? Staff were friendly but not very forthcoming with things to do and helping arrange anything Room was nice and small but did us for a couple of days, just that weird smell?! Offered oats but no milk, coffee ran out and my partner was told it was on its way but took over 24 hours to replace Nice mini courtyard and good security. They should put bins in the toilets for womens requirements if not toilet paper. They talk about the environment but don’t offer water refills etc. Small changes could really help. "

"Backpacker Stay is a very convenient place to stay. It scores a full mark on it's cleanliness. Very friendly staffs. Have security cameras all around for safety. Breakfast is provided. Very near to Kuching Waterfront, shopping malls, and other tourist attractions. Shower room is very clean and comfortable. The only negative thing is the toilet where tap water is not available, only tissue is provided."

"I enjoyed my stay in Kuching so much I ended up staying 16 days at Hero Hostel. There are only a few private rooms, plus a dorm that you must rent out entirely (so that may be good for groups). The rate for the private room ($10 USD when I booked) is on par with the rate for private rooms in other hostels, but seems like a much better value, considering the quality of the room (compared to what I saw of other people's single rooms in some Chinatown hostels). The location is great since it straddles the hill between Chinatown and Jalan Padungan, the two parts of town where most of the tourist action happens. It's also just two blocks to the center of the waterfront (where the Hilton is located). And I can't say enough good things about the staff. Regina was always very helpful, even walking me toward the nearest 24-hour laundromat when I asked for directions! Lionel, the owner, responded very quickly to any questions I had via email, and his brother will even drive you to the airport for a competitive rate. The only downside is that the common area is almost non-existant--it's just a couch in the non-air conditioned hallway, so it's not a great place to meet people. But there are plenty of backpackers traveling through Kuching, and the couch surfing community there is lively enough that there are plenty of other avenues to meet people."

"Check In Lodge has been one of the best hostel experiences I’ve had in Southeast Asia. What really made them stand out is their staff. Anna was always so helpful in giving our group advice and tips on things to do and Nida was always available via WhatsApp if we were not in the hostel and had a quick question. The free breakfast is basic but filling and the accommodation itself is very very clean. Bonus points for the fastest WiFi experience I’ve had since getting to Asia. No joke- this place has better WiFi than some expensive hotels I’ve stayed at and allowed me to catch up on game of thrones when I was four episodes behind! There’s a rooftop patio which is nice for socializing and the location is so close to laundry facilities, bus stops, and cheap food options. I can not recommend this place enough!"

"My stay was a good and safe at the hotel. I felt at home with friendly staffs, easy access to any eatery and shopping mall. Toilet was ok, the room was good. If I may purpose the hotel to offer more tv channel such as HBO or Star tv for relaxing after being out day and comes back at night and hope the hotel could offer plastic spoon and few packet of 3 in 1 drink for those who love to have a sip of 3 in 1 drink in the morning. Overall mh friend I would love to recommend this hotel for other travellers who wishes to have a short visit to Kuching and its really worth for your money value as it is a low cost budget hotel."

"Booked a bed in a 10-bed dormitory, but upon checking in, was informed by the staff that there's some issue with the booking with Agoda. In the end, they couldn't give me a bed in the 10-bed dormitory and instead, they prepared a last minute single private room for me at the attic. I was worried at first, but then I realize that the 10-bed dormitory was all filled with guys, and I'm the only girl, so I decided the take the private room for safety purposes. Apart from that, although the private room seems slightly dusty, but I'm happy with the room. They even went through the trouble to buy a new pillow for me, and provided clean bedsheets and blanket. They even provided free towel (which was not included in the package). Overall, I'm quite happy with the private room, as I felt safe and had all the privacy to myself. Especially when I'm a solo girl traveler. "

"The location is strategic. But the facilities are not in goodcondition. The shower head is broken, the sink is small so it splashed all over when you turn it on. The wall is not properly painted so it is kind of shabby. It will be wiser to top up a bit and opt for memoire hotel. However if you are not going for holiday, this may be an option to stay"
