Location, Price, Staff

My husband and I have stayed in all types of accommodation from backpacker guesthouses to luxury pool villas from Chang Mai to Koh Jum but Haad Salad Villa is our favorite spot in Thailand, hands down! If you're looking for luxury, look elsewhere but if it's relaxing on a pristine beach in a comfortable and clean basic beach bungalow, look no further. Haad Salad Villa has everything you need. Friendly staff, great restaurant, massage hut and kayak and scooter rentals at a very reasonable price. It is also home to France Plangee Divers who will rent you snorkling gear or certify you in scuba. The sand on the beach is like talcom powder and with a reef just off shore, the snorkling is great. The sunsets are breathtaking and there are plenty of restaurants on the beach to watch them from or stay at the Villa and have their nightly barbecue at a table on the beach. The bungalows are basic but they are air conditioned and have hot water and most importantly, clean. They all have a deck on the front with two chairs, a small table and a hammock and all at a very reasonable price. Puk, Ton and Ian who run the resort and restaurant are friendly and helpful as are all the Burmese wait, maintenance and housekeeping staff. On our last nights on the island of Koh Phangan we decided to splurge on a couple of nights at an upscale brand new hotel in the area of Had Rin beach. When we enquired about transport to this hotel, Puk told us that they would transport us into Thong Sala but we would need to get a taxi from there to Had Rin which is a fair distance away. To our surprise, Puk and Ton drove us all the way to the door of the hotel and didn't charge us for the extra distance. It's little things like that which will ensure our return to Haad Salad Villa.

Very relaxing and empowering. ”

Location. Price. Staff

Relaxing, happy and refreshing. Bungalow was clean and basic and it included everything you need: comfortable bed, new ac, warm water and so nice own hammock outside. The yard is beautiful with flowertrees. Staff was really helpfull and did help to get ferry/taxi/snorkling tickets whenever they were needed. Bike that we rented from Haad salad villa was brand new and did cost only 200b/day. It was easy and safe to drive all over even though the hills are pretty high and some roads narrow. It was good idea to stay in place like this, near good beach and nature, because it was so easy, fast and cheap to drive anywhere by bike. Taxi to the full moon party or back to the ferry wasn't expensive, 150 b/person. Haad salads beach is just great: so clear water and very clean bottom. The beach is shalow and seacucumbers were found only from deeper water. Haad salad villas restaurant/bar is enjoyable and we most often ate there. Nothing to complain about and reasonable prices. Also some markets/bars/atm are found very near of Haad salad villa. In overall the place is very cozy and peaceful. The atmosphere of the place is relaxing and simple enough.

Cozy and right in front of the beach”

We loved our stay in Haad Salad Villa. We booked the bungalow with AC. The room was big, the bathroom is very simple but the shower worked very well. All bungalows have a balcony with hammock, a broom and a couple of chairs. Everyday they give you a big bottle of water and you can take bananas for free in the reception. They also offer you a repelente to put in your room. The hotel is right in front of the beach. They have a restaurant that serves good meals with a good price!! Some of the staff were always in a bad mood, but that didn’t disturb us ‘cause we were so happy! If you want a relaxing place, a beautiful beach, good food for a good price, this is the best option!

Comfortable bungalow on beautiful beach”

Location, staff, surroundings

We really enjoyed our stay at haad salad villa. The standard fan bungalow was very spacious and clean, I think it had been newly renovated recently. The location is great- footsteps away from what I think is the most beautiful part on koh phangan. On top of all this the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Great location”

Haad Salad is very basic but it had all we needed. The location is fantastic and the restaurant overlooks the beach. Our first evening there we sat down for dinner and had the opportunity to see the most beautiful sunset. The kids could play on the beach while we waited for the food. Our original room was smaller than I had anticipated so we upgraded to a bungalow overlooking the beach. They were happy to switch us since it was available. When we needed to go into town, they arranged a taxi for us. The beach is family friendly, but extremely quiet. You can walk to both ends quite easily and Haad Salad is toward the middle. The water right in front of Haad Salad is great for swimming (as oppose to one end of the beach where we found it harder because of all the coral). If you are looking for basic bungalows, Haad Salad is a nice quiet place with very friendly staff.

Great price, friendly staff, great location!”

Price, Location, Staff

This is my fourth time to Koh Phagnan over the past 6 years. I have stayed in practically every area of the island previously, but this was our fist time in Haad Salad. This resort is a little gem. It is run by a small family. We stayed in the beachfront bungalow, which cost us around per night. Best value for money I have ever had in Thailand. The atmosphere is perfect for those who just want to relax and read a book. Although the resort was full during our stay, it was always very quiet. Most of the guests were staying for 2 weeks plus. There are also many things to do for families like cheap kayaking, snorkeling and diving. The beach massages are great also! We will definitely be coming back here again soon!

Loved my stay here!”

My bungalow was perfect and had all the conveniences you want traveling- fridge, kettle, warm water, air-con, fan, balcony and hammock. However, be aware that if you are here over full moon time, the price almost doubles which I don't think was worth it. Also, I stayed here for 6 days and never had my bungalow serviced. It didn't bother me too much, but I would have expected something in 6 days. Overall, my time in Haad Salad and at the Villas was the best time of my vacation.

Excellent budget beach villas ”

Staff, location & price

Always stay at this resort when in Koh Phangan, it's around a 30 minute drive from the pier in the opposite direction of full moon party (the quiet side of the island) it has the most amazing beach and right on your doorstep at this resort. Usually costs 200bhat pp for the transfer but this time the hotel collected us as we had stayed here numerous amounts of times and there was a group of 7 this time. The staff are always excellent and are always keen to help and help you make the most of your stay, can not fault them at all. The huts are basic but clean and spacious and all have hammocks on your balcony and within a stones throw from the beach. I would stay here every time visiting Koh phangan, definitely one of my favourite places and best value for money I have found. Brilliant!

Nice place to chill out”

Nice and quiet, I stayed in a garden view bungalow. If you are after a swimming beach, this beach is not, it is good to paddle and sit/float around in when the tide is in. Nice food at restaurant with reasonable prices. The majority of motorbike rental places in Koh Phangan require you to leave your passport with them (I don’t like that) not much choice if you want to tour the island, this hotel doesn’t rent them, but plenty close by, start at 250baht, but haggle for better deal. There is a massage booth right at the beach, nice friendly ladies operating it. Wifi was good, only had a problem once, but back on later. I liked my time here.

Beachfront, relaxing, sweet staff”

Steps from the beach, quiet and relaxing, super sweet staff

I stayed during the infamous full moon party and choose the villas because they are located nearly an hour from Haad Rin. The northwestern part of the island is considered one of the more beautiful spots and it was lovely. When I was there in May it was swelteringly hot and the water was like a hot tub , not ideal for taking a refreshing dip. The villas are very basic , you are paying for their proximity to the beach (steps!) and a/c which for me was absolutely essential. The staff was very kind. The owner's English is pretty good and she takes credit cards! There is also an on,site diving school. Be patient with everyone who works , many speak only a few words of English and you are in a part of the world where typical Western standards of hospitality are simply unknown. I promise if you are patient and kind, and ask for things politely with a smile you will be taken great care of. And, remember you are paying around $25 Usd for a beach front room! I dare you to find something like that at home. It's basic but clean and comfortable. You will see bugs , you're in the jungle :)

Family Beachfront”

Location and staff

We stayed at family beachfront bungalow (right one). It is very simple a/c bungalow with all windows netted even in the shower. But unfortunately we did encounter several mosquitoes in the first couple of days but no more. At first the bungalow smelled rather damp. Overall it looks rather worn out. But it has a fridge. The staff in the opposite was very helpful — gave us a mosquito net and arranged several taxi rides much cheaper than usual taxi. The restaurant was ok, but there we other places on the beach that looked and tasted better. After all we liked our stay at Haad Salad Villa mainly because of the location an us living right at the beach. I just think it could cost less.

Great Low Season Value”

Location, Good Value Room, Good Internet Access

As I'm writing, I've spent two nights here and am planning on at least two more. Booked on Agoda. Brilliant deal. My bungalow is reasonably spacious and spotllessly clean. The bed is comfy, the air-con works well and wifi works reasonably well even inside the room (most of the time). The room has windows on three sides, plus a window in the door, so lots of natural light. The veranda is big, with two comfortable plastic lawn chairs, a small table and a hammock. No sea view, since it faces other bungalows across a sandy garden planted with palms, other trees and bushes. There's a lovely and fragrant frangapani right by the veranda. Hot water is also provided, not that you really need it in this climate. The beachfront cafe is attractive and the staff are very likable, esp. the gnome-like British manager. Food is good (if underspiced -- catering to farang tastes) and reasonably priced. The beach is a lovely curve of fine white sand between two verdant points. The bay is rather shallow, but swimmable at most tides. The reef is quite a ways offshore (150 meters) and you don't really want to walk out to it due to a plethora of urchins and sea cucumbers. But if you swim out the snorkeling is quite worthwhile -- not brilliant but worthwhile. There's quite a bit of living coral, although not an esp wide variety of kinds and colors. Same with fish -- lots of fish but a littleless variety than I'd hoped for. The onsite French-run dive shop charges ridiculous prices for snorkel gear rental: 150 baht for mask, snorkel and fins for one hour, 300 for all day. Plus, if you;re not a French speaker, they 'd really rather not give you the time of day. Far better to walk a couple of hundred meters into the village center and go to Pirate Divers. I rented a mask and snorkel set (no fins) for 100 baht for the entire day. All in all a brillian deal, esp. at low season prices.

My wife and I stayed in a family bungalow with a friend of ours. The room was huge and the beds in 2 different ares so it felt we were in our own room. The room is simple but very comfortable. I'd stay again as a last resort”

Close to the beach, quiet, air con worked

I wasn't particularly impressed. For $20, my shower should be hot and not ooze dirty brown water. Staff made you feel like you were inconveniencing them 9/10 times (if my light is broken at night, don't ask if you can fix it tomorrow!), and the woman running the place is a total money grabber (she does that "normally I charge THAT much, but for you: special price of THIS much" BS). They overcharge for your taxi service, a 2 minute walk to the main road will bump down all your travel costs at least 30%. Restaurant manager is nice but the food is pretty average, maybe even below (worst Tom-kha or Thailand). I stayed for 5 nights and wound up just ordering what was cheapest and getting it over with. The beach is nice but they have no shaded areas for you to hang out in, except the restaurant which isn't really made for this. I wouldn't stay again unless I had to, and frankly that will be never. Haad salad is a nice quiet beach but even then there is a much nicer one just south
