Red Inn Court
Georgetown,Penang - View on map
"Location, price and charm make this place highly recommendable in our opinion. we'd stay there again no worries. We stayed at red court inn several times and stayed in dorms, twin room and king room. All of the rooms were well presented in charming old penang style. the bunk rooms are solid and very comfortable. actually all the beds were lovely. all rooms have aircon too - very important! the bathrooms are all shared but it feels fine - they are clean and the showers are good. The wifi is reasonable and there is a comfortable common area on the ground floor to lounge in and watch a movie or have a can of expensive beer (beer in malyasia=very expensive). there is also a computer there for guests to use. the free breakfast is very basic just a few bananas a bit of watermelon and white bread to toast and eat with jam. But don't let it worry you - go across the road to the vegetarian place and get an excellent cheap breakfast there. Red cout inn does have some pretty steep stairs though so if you have knee problems or any other reason to avoid stairs then please be warned!"

Reunion Residence

"Don't be taken aback when you reach the hotel - its main entrance is a convenience store. Basically, at first look, you won't be able to relate the building as a hotel as you will be welcomed by the convenience store. Within it, you will take the flight of stairs up to your room. The layout of the room is simply beautiful and it has the modernize design. Location wise, accessible to Penang Street Art and Chew Jetty. Will not hesitate to book this place during my next visit to Penang"

Carnarvon House
Georgetown,Penang - View on map
"I stayed there for a night with three of my friends, and I write this with a pang of regret because Carnarvon House was so good I wish my stay was longer! The best thing abt this guesthouse is its owner Terry and his cousin, Eunice. Without them, our stay would have lacked the personal touch and that intangible extra something, the x-factor, that makes you want to come back to Penang just so you can stay with them again. I'm in the service industry too, and I sure know a thing or two abt the hallmarks of good service. The passion both Terry and Eunice have for what they do and their warm "Asian" hospitality comes across so naturally as they sit down with you to talk to you. Who needs a guide around Penang if you stay at Carnarvon House? What impressed me most was that Terry voluntarily sat down with us for a long time to share with us the sightseeing and gourmet spots in Penang in such painstaking detail. He also has done up a map of good food places complete with pictures and descriptions of the food available. Even though we only had a day in Penang, we managed to go to more than six places thanks to Terry's detailed explanation and pointers. We didn't even need to use google maps to locate these places, and the food he recommended like Penang Assam laksa, fishball noodles, char kway teow and cendol were really to-die-for! I am glad I made this choice and my friends are thankful that I chose this hotel. Thank you Terry for going out of your way to be such a fantastic host! Also, Terry shows genuine care for his guests and I feel so comfortable at Carnarvon House, as though I'm putting up at a good friend's place. My friend wanted to meet a friend at Komtas, which was 17 mins on foot according to Google Maps, but Terry overheard and offered to take us there despite his busy schedule. I'm really overwhelmed with gratitude by his generosity, patience and the lengths to which he goes to for his guests. Thank you Terry and Eunice for making our stay such a fantastic1"

Rope Walk Guest House
Georgetown,Penang - View on map
"We were lucky to stay in a twin room here on our first night in Penang. I only wish we could have stayed longer because it is a beautiful place, the best we stayed in during our time here and we stayed in several other hostels. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the ambience and decor of the hostel is very relaxing, the rooms are well kept and comfortable and the breakfast is better than anything else we've had from other places. You get a banana leaf rice packet and as much toast, butter and jam/local sweet spread as you can eat and tea or coffee to boot. We had to move on because it was booked the next night of our stay and has been booked up ever since. Get in if you can, even with the shared bathroom (very nice standard) it is worth the stay. "

"I stayed in this hotel when I visited Penang island in May 2019. I booked this hotel via Agoda and I got great discount. Honestly I didn't expect too much before I arrived at this hotel, but to my surprise, considering that I got relatively low rate, this hotel is just beyond my expectation. Great room with air con & hot shower, good quality bed, and its location is at the center of the city, so it's practically close to anywhere. I will surely consider to stay in this hotel the next time I travel to Penang island again."

"Pro: I totally enjoyed my stay here. I love the concept of this hotel. I love everything about it! I love the hotel’s design. It’s very unique, tranditional. I took multiple pictures here and dream to have a house with this concept one day! Cons: Hard to get parking space And bedsheet and cleanliness can be improved. Overall, worth every penny! "

Hickory Penang Hill
Penang Hill,Penang - View on map
"Booked the Hickory for our family of 4 to experience an unrushed full day in Penang Hill visiting the Habitat, Curtis Crest, Langur Way Canopy Walk, the Ziplines, to enjoy exclusive, unobstructed views of George Town and feel the cooler air, to witness sunrise and sunset. Was given detailed guidelines on getting there by Raj whom also promptly responded to all my enquiries. We took Grab to Lower Station on a Tue morning, reached at 9.30am and was informed the funicular train only stops at the lower tunnel station (where The Hickory is) every hour. So despite being our turn to board, we were directed to wait at the fast lane area till 10am. The ride up was nice as you get to board the front carriage if you are alighting along the way. Travel light so you do not occupy too much space in the cabin and is easier on the pathways and steep slopes to and from Hickory. Alternatively you could book a 4-wheel drive in advance which helps save time from queuing. If u take train up, buy a one way ticket up and only buy for your way out upon leaving the hills when you reach the lower station. Queuing for the train to make your way down to Hickory could be madness on a rainy day with large crowd. Priority is not given even if you are a guest staying there, not forgeting that the stop at your station is only permitted hourly. This is because the stops will slow down the movement of the queue. On a dry day, consider walking downhill as it takes only about 15 min and here, the temp is 5 degrees lower than average in Penang. The queues are the only reason I gave the place 4 instead of 5 stars. We opted for steamboat dinner. There was another group and we made friends after dinner. It was even colder at night and in the morning which we loved. Had western breakfast outdoor over-looking Georgetown. If you come in group of at least 7, you could take up the entire upper deck. Overall, the place was what I expected, but what's more amazing was the night view of George town from"
