I spent two days in Alger, and mainly chose this hotel because it was the most reasonably priced in a convenient location. The guy who worked in the reception when I arrived in the evening (Sam or Sammy) deserves five stars. A super friendly and helpful person, with a wealth of knowledge about the city and the location. Perfect English, and self taught too. I wish he was the manager. Because the receptionist working in the morning was the polar opposite. It was hard to get answers to even trivial questions, and he seemed to pretend that the hotel was full when I clearly could book a second night online. Only when I was walking out the door did they suddenly have a "cancelation". But when I paid for the room, I had to wait another hour in the reception to put my bag there because they needed "confirmation", and my proof of payment wasn't enough. So half of the day disappeared in useless administration. And don't even get me started on the big grumpy guy working in the breakfast area (possibly the main boss). I'm not sure if yelling at your customers and bullying them is a good idea, but this guy just makes you want to run away. The hotel rooms are small, and recently refurbished. My rooms and both beds had both hairs from previous guests and some dirt along the walls, but in general they were quite well cleaned. The internet was working well. The hotel itself is worth the money, but the staff should take a serious course in customer care.
