A unique experience with the bonus of new friends!”
It's no wonder Ewan's Guesthouse has so many good reviews... he attracts good people! Like many, we needed a place to stay in Kota Bharu for one night before heading over to the Perhentians, and with all the reviews commenting on the warmth of Ewan and his family, I couldn't resist booking us in for the experience (not to mention the great price!). Ewan was quick to email me back about transportation to/from the airport, and upon our arrival we were greeted with the warmth I've read in so many of the reviews. His son even ran out and gave my boyfriend a big hug around the legs. So cute! Ewan's wife, Amy, is so kind and quite funny! She was cracking jokes with us right off the bat... love her! They both have such great, laid back, friendly energy... it's no surprise that's most of whom they attract. Bonus was the three other travelers we met that evening (a young solo traveler, and another couple) ended up becoming friends we hung out with on Long Beach over the next few days, too! Ewan's Guesthouse is nothing fancy, accommodations-wise, but we appreciated our private A/C room, and they were smart to integrate the vacant/in use locks for shared bathrooms. They take great care in making sure their guests are fed and taken care of during their stay, and I'm both in awe and grateful for their service. All the best to you & yours, Ewan & family!

Very Nice family.”
We Stayed one Night at Ewans place and it was really Nice. Ewan and his wife are very Nice, and the kids are really sweet. The room was very Nice and clean, and a comfortable bed. When we arrived ewan went out to buy a Cold ice tea and some local snacks, they where renovationg the kitchen so couldnt make anything. And they drove us to the bus station when we left. A good place for backpackers to stay, Walking distance to the markets.

It's the owners that make this place”
I can say enough wonderful things about Ewan and his wife. They were so welcoming, giving me a drink and fruit on arrival. We spent some time chatting and their children are adorable! I wish I got hugged like that every time I arrived somewhere! The room was clean and very basic. I did have to ask for a towel and sheet, but as soon as I asked this was provided. It was all I needed for one night's stay. The bathroom could have been a little cleaner - there was a dead cockroach hiding in the corner. But at least it was dead! And you get them even in pricy places. The only problem I had was the people in the room next door who were sharing the ajoining bathroom, kept locking me out. Ewan was brilliant at sorting this out though and we made a bit of a joke about it. Wasn't their fault at all. Ewan also took me to the airport early in the morning at a better rate than the taxi drivers.

Wonderful family run guesthouse!”
The owner Ewan and his family are such lovely hosts. They were so welcoming and helpful! They gave us snacks and a map of the town, they recommended food, and even helped us out by driving us to the bus station/ airport. The rooms were very clean and spacious and the aircon worked very well. We've stayed here twice and would definitely stay again! Thank you Ewan and family for your hospitality; good luck with the expansion! Sam and Chrissy

Good spot for our short stay”
Spent two nights here. Ewan and Ami were very helpful. Ewan took us on a nice tour out to the fireflies one evening, and showed us the local night market. They both have great english too. They live downstairs with 3 young boys so it has a nice family vibe about it all. Definitely recommend.

Guesthouse or home stay, made very welcome.”
Lovely family. Ewan came to find us when we were lost trying to find his place. Amy bought us delicious crackers from the market. The children were cute and friendly. Their guesthouse was like a home stay. With basic amenities and great WIFI. Nice experience, thank you.

Friendly owner but rooms shabby and not properly cleaned or set-up.”
We booked to stay in a family room at Ewan's Guesthouse which has good reviews, however, on arrival we were taken to a big old concrete block of a building instead. The room had not been properly cleaned after the last guest left, one bed was broken, there were no towels or sheets, the 'hot shower' did not work and the stairwells needed a good clean. Ewan was friendly when we saw him, and the hotel is in a good location but overall it is very poor value for money.

Most lovely family running this place”
Decent bed and room. Good value for money. What I liked the most was the family running this guest house though. Easily the most friendly place I've stayed in the last few months. When they found out I'm recovering from dengue fever they were even more friendly and gave me a lift to the bus station in the morning. Genuinely lovely!!

It was all good till you see the bedbugs”
The guesthouse is run by friendly and helpful owner. Overall condition is what you can expect from a guesthouse. However, once you start finding bedbugs, lots of them... it means it's a sleepless night.

Great value for the money”
We only spent one night at Ewan's. The family was really friendly and accommodating and we were even driven to our bus the next morning. Our room was fine and equipped with a fan.

Amazing host, pleasant stay”
Stayed two nights and Ewun was the most pleasant host you could hope for. Beds were comfy. Breakfast was good. Slightly old house and more of a homestay than a guest house really, but I like this. Location close enough to easily walk anywhere although there are probably other places slightly more central. Would recommend.

Very dirty”
We had a reservation to Ewans 1 but our room wasn't available and they changed us to Ewans 2. The owner of Ewans 1 was very nice but the new hotel is quite bad. The cleaning is probably inexistent and the bed sheets and towels looked dirty as well.
