Incredible stay”
Every part of our stay here was absolutely incredible. Exquisite, and well-kept grounds, beautifully restored buildings and rooms. The reception staff were welcoming and competent, we were escorted to our room, bags sorted for us, and even given a tour of the room. Later we received a courtesy call to make sure everything was ok, and someone even brought us cookies and a bottle of water. Even the in-room coffee maker makes really good coffee! (Pods). Heated floors in bathroom, lovely shower, comfortable bed, beautifully decorated but also spacious and comfortable to relax in. Pool area looks lovely (too bad it was winter during our stay!) food and service at restaurant was also great. Honestly no complaints and highly recommend a stay in this beautiful and historic hotel if you have a chance - makes a stay in Graaff-Reinet more than worth it!

Stunning, loved it”
Spent one night here on a road trip to Cape Town. The town of Graaff-Reinet is awesome and feels like you are taken back in time. The hotel is exceptional in every way and I would highly recommend staying here. The food was delicious, service spot on, and the decor is stunning. We will definitely stay longer on our next visit. I would also recommend a visit to the Valley of Desolation which is a few kilometres outside of town, it is a definitive must see and will leave you in awe.

Experience to remember”
We spend a very cold weekend in the Drostdy Hotel. We arrived on Friday afternoon, the temperature was 5 degrees - but our room were warm and cosy. When I entered the bathroom the under floor heating were turned on what a blessing in such cold weather. The breakfast was out standing so also the dinner menu. We had the lamb shank and the pork belly - it could not be better. The staff were great - phoned in the evening to find out if we are comfortable and do not need anything. We will be back - Thank you

Drostdy Hotel Graaff Reinet”
We have been coming to this Hotel for the last 4 years. I travel all over the world and stay in some of the best Hotels. I simply love Drostdy Hotel. When you sit in the garden and have a beer it looks and feels like you are in another world. My favourite place to stay.

Great Hotel pity about the Restaurant”
The Drostdy itself is wonderful. It would be even better if the on-site restaurant was of the same standard- it is a beautiful venue and the staff is friendly. However the quality of food. Is not acceptable. The "excuse" that their staff are trainees also when the food is bad doesn't fly.

Beautiful property not without problems .”
Beautiful property. Undrinkable tea and coffee due to desalinated water used, water has salty taste and slightly greenish- yellowish colour. This is very easy to solve, by using mineral/bottled water for tea coffee instead, but for some reason management prefers to do nothing. Some rooms have poor sound insulation. We stayed in Executive room 1701 and could hear loud and clear all plumbing works and our neighbours in room 1702. Our neighbours didn’t make much noise, but it felt like they where actually in our room and we could here all they conversations.

Classy, historical, proactive”
2 items were not working in the room but before we were settled they were sorted by very friendly, concerned and proactive staff. the dinner menu is 1st class but lacks 2 or 3 'simpler or smaller' items on the menu. Loved everything about the hotel, history , staff, meals, room and even the guests.

Amazing hotel and interior is 5 star”
Amazing hotel with the most beautiful rooms and interior. Everything was 5 star except for the breakfast. Staff were not up to standard and the presentation of the food were about 2 star. Fruit were cut very thick and unproffesional and it was just not well presented at all. The parma ham was cut so thick you just could not eat it (and i love parma ham). We ordered poached soft eggs with the eggs benedict but it was hard and although the waiter realized the problem did not apologize or made any effort to correct the order.

Beautiful property, but horrible water used to make tea and coffee!”
Something was terribly wrong with the water used for tea and coffee. The water served to us was greenish-yellowish colour. We’ve brought our fine teas with us , but the water made them taste horrible. The coffee served, had the same underlying horrible taste. We were told by the restaurant manager that thay use desalinated water from their plant. And that the water in the tea wasn’t the tap water... Actually it was the same colour as from the tap and it had the same slightly salty unpleasant taste. The manager didn’t seem to know the difference between mineral water and desalinated water.

Great hotel let down by uninspiring meals”
We were looking forward to our meal in the restaurant. The dining room is stylish, the waiters are friendly and efficient but the food is average and does not do justice to a first rate hotel. The breakfast was equally disappointing. The spread looks wonderful but once one tasted it it were indifferent. Fresh melon was tasteless, my omelette was dry. The coffee was filter; no espresso machine etc etc The staff though were all wonderful

Great Hotel”
The place is really worth the extra money, and i think what blew me away more than anything else, and there was a lot of great things, was the unbelievable foresight and commitment of Anton Rupert in running the hotel using trainees, and in so doing giving them the skills they would need for a carear in tourism, and paying them at the same time. I think a lot of people are unaware of the huge investments Rupert has made in improving the lot of the people of SA.

Mixed Feelings”
Ours was a short overnight stay - so cannot comment on everything. Reception was good and although we were early they allowed us access to our room. Beautiful room - really outstanding. The pool area looked good, weather was bad, so did not venture a swim. We booked for dinner - and this is where the wheels came off. Starter of Venison Cappucio was not seasoned enough and far too much very sweet balsamic vinegar - over powered delicate meat. Our mains, we ordered Rack of Lamb - in the Karoo you can't go wrong! Well, ours did - we ordered Medium and it arrived close on "Blue" and the fat was not rendered enough. Sent back to kitchen - came back Rare and still not rendered the fat! Gave up here. Chef did not have the decency to come out, but left the management to sort out. They were good and very apologetic. Very disappointing and portion size very small - 2 carrots, 3 beans, slice of Daphne potatoes and some crispy stuff. Left still very hungry. So this really put a dampener on our stay. Would recommend the rooms, not too sure if kitchen staff know what they are doing. Saw the Imibala Gallery - great Botanical art.
