"The Park is a family-run guesthouse that will just make you feel at home. It is located in the middle of Ayutthaya island and you can start exploring the park by foot. The host is one of the nicest Thai we have met during our travels in Thailand and he will give you all the information you need for your stay in Ayutthaya. The garden of the guesthouse is just beautiful and while it was just too hot to walk around midday, we relaxed in that garden and enjoyed the good food made by the host's sister. If in Ayutthaya we would for sure choose The Park again. "

"This is an apartment style hotel situated roughly halfway between Ayutthaya town center and the Rojana industrial park. Because of the large number of factory plants nearby, you will find quite a number of business travellers from overseas staying at this hotel. The hotel is well maintained and modern. Room is spacious and the bath room is stocked with all those items one needs for personal hygiene. Air conditioning is powerful enough to keep every corner of our big room cool, and yet quiet enough not to disturb our sleep. We had breakfast and lunch buffet at the hotel. Breakfast (included with room) was delicious and lunch was good value for money at 290 Baht per person. WiFi was stable and speed test on my laptop showed 5 Mbps for both download and upload. Good enough for most people. Although we have not stayed at other hotels in Ayutthaya so we can't really make comparisons, but this is definitely one we would recommend, especially if you a business traveller and not caring too much about view. The hotel is off a busy highway and there is nothing much interesting in the immediate neighbourhood. But again, 10-15 minutes drive will take you to those tourist places. "

"We booked for 2 nights but ended up staying 5. Really peaceful location on the river with excellent staff. Even our small budget room had everything we needed. Breakfast was superb with a good choice. The beautiful teak building and decor are something special. Although further from the main sites than some places these were in easy reach by bikes or tuktuk. Also some of the more atmospheric minor temples and ruins are right next to the guesthouse. These are brilliant and you will usually have them to yourself. The area is an extensive public park with some great wildlife. Although set back from the main road this is a very busy and dangerous highway. The only shops and restaurants require walking along this road. There are also some aggressive dogs around the entrance (these appear to be a problem everywhere in Ayutthaya). Being so far out of town we think the price could be a little lower or the rather old single gear bicycles could free to use rather than 100 baht each per day."

"the public areas of the hotel seem a little old and worn but the rooms are enormous, very comfortable suites with traditional timber furniture. the balconies are large and offer some of the best views in ayutthaya. staff were willing to go above and beyond in order to ensure my needs were met. i love this old girl and always choose to stay here."

"So lovely! The staff here is INCREDIBLY helpful, they arranged a motorcycle rental for us and helped us with directions, even found ponchos for us because it was raining! They genuinely care about their patrons and speak VERY good english. Although breakfast is not included, fruit and coffee/tea/water is available for all at any time, which is a really nice touch. The hotel itself feels rustic but rooms are extremely comfortable and large! Bathroom was gorgeous with a nice big shower and lots of space! Add literally being RIGHT across from Wat Mahathat into the mix and you've found what I consider to be hands down THE BEST hotel in Ayutthaya for the price!"

"Staff is superb here! Extremely helpful and fluent English too. You can walk from the train to get to the hotel (about 1 mile). And you can walk from the hotel to the main park/ruins. There is a pub street (farang street) in walking distance as well. The hotels are little bungalows actually. Kind of small, but everything you need is there, they even include mosquito repellent (needed when walking or outside in Ayutthaya) and umbrellas. Breakfast is on par with many 4-5 star hotels. Nice selection of pastries (fresh or maybe home cooked?) and your choice of eggs and a lot of fruits plus other usual's. A decent selection of drinks too, not just tea and coffee like most places. What I notice and appreciate most was how obvious it is the owners pay attention to little details. They take pride in what they do and it shows. They did not use the cheapest materials, decorations or appliances. Everything is nice, especially for the price. The lotus pond surrounding the dining area/pavilion is also very nice; you feel like you are out in the countryside. I will return and have already recommended to my friends."

"It's not easy to find a decent hotel in Ayutthaya (or in many of the provinces for that matter). This is a large hotel that can easily cater for (and did) tour groups, conferences, very large functions, etc. Rooms although dated and facilities of a high standard. Comfortable bed and large bathroom. Everything worked. There is a choice of 3 restaurants. An Italian, the large coffee shop (where breakfast is also served), and 'another' on the terrace adjacent to the river. The latter was best choice for dinner as a live duo performed in the evenings - better than the karaoke style performers accompanied by piano in the coffee shop during the evenings. Cuisine was generally good, but service in the coffee shop was appalling due to a lack of staff training. The breakfast buffet was varied with sufficient variety for foreigners, BUT the girl tasked with making omelettes just didn't have a clue about how to fry an egg unless you wanted it solidly very well done. Most travellers if not on business and there for a purpose are there to see the sights. In my previous experience the hotels located inside the old city closest to the monuments aren't much to write home about, and in any case, you need transport to get around to see all the sights. So location isn't in my view especially important. The Krungsi River hotel like no doubt every other Ayutthaya hotel, has its resident fixer located out front who can arrange a personal aircon taxi/guide to take you around for half or all day - and frankly speaking, that's really what you want if sightseeing. So it matters not that your hotel is not slap bang in the city centre. The terrace restaurant was a delight overlooking the river with live music. If you don't want to otherwise spend a fortune on a luxury boutique guesthouse, then the Krungsi River Hotel offers a very good blend of very affordable comfort and facilities (if booked through Agoda at their 50% off rate) and you need look no further! "My wife and i picked the Baifern on the reviews of other people. Ignore the bad reviews, the baifern is a wonderful little place situated within a stones throw of all the ruins and temples. The owner Tukta and her family make your stay very easy and nothing is too much for them, they help you with everything. A nice family atmosphere, and the place to unwind and acclimatise to the pace of Thailand after our flight. I would recommend the Baifern to anyone visiting Ayutthaya, just to completely relax and unwind."

"I have absolutely had a wonderful stay at Baan Are Gong Riverside Homestay. I almost didn’t make it to Ayutthaya and boy oh boy! I would of missed out. This 24 hour side trip from Bangkok has turned into one of my most memorable moments in Thailand. It’s a major highlight of my trip. The staff is just super friendly. I mean, they’re amazing. I arrived early and they let me check in within an hour. The restaurant is right on the river. Great views! Very peaceful. I got a Thai style room for the night which was a total experience! The door to my room was honestly like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. Air con worked extremely well! The bed was way more comfortable than what I’m sleeping on back in Bangkok. Ayutthaya is a bit confusing. You need transport to get around. The Homestay has a tuk tuk tour and a river boat tour. I decided on the boat tour and was so glad I did! It was great!!!! You go to three temples. And honestly it was perfect for me. I got my fill of Ayutthaya. 💜"

More about Ayutthaya

Once the capital of the Kingdom of Siam, Ayutthaya has gone on to become one of Thailand's leading historical sites, with an incredible collection of ruins in the city center. Many visitors arrive from Bangkok by bus or train and find accommodation in Ayutthaya along the popular Naresuan Road.

The main tourist attractions in Ayutthaya are on the island formed by a bend in the river. The historical park here was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its rambling temples and majestic Buddha images. Tourists can explore the park on foot or by bicycle. The spires standing over the park are reminiscent of ancient Cambodia, and some even liken Ayutthaya to a scaled-down version of Angkor Wat.

Tourists here can enjoy a range of activities. Most hotels on the riverside rent out bicycles, and elephant riding around the ruins is also popular. For lovers of pachyderms, the Ayuttha Elephant Camp is a must on the itinerary.

Most tourists arrive in Ayutthaya by train from Bangkok, a trip of around 90 minutes. The Ayuttha Train Station is east of the city center, and getting from here to the hotels requires a short walk and a ferry ride across the river.
