Great, simple hotel for our honeymoon adventure”
cat huy was our first vietnam hotel experience, ho chi minh city being the first leg of our 2.5 week honeymoon in vietnam. we loved it and would stay again if we ever return to hcmc. my personal favorite aspect were the amazing breakfasts, there's a choice of a few dishes but we had the pho bo (beef noodle soup) every time, which was the freshest and most delicious i've had both in vietnam and back in australia, where we live close to many authentic restaurants. the hotel is small, spotless and located down a side street where theres a daily locals food market. fascinating to watch the locals buying their seafood whilst eating brekky (unless you don't like seafood!). the ambience is, well, quiet, i think partly because of the hotel staff who are quite reserved and extremely polite, also because the immediate vicinity is a quiet neigourhood, and also becasue the guests were all couples. this suited us fine, although i would have been happy to have had a late night drink in the hotel bar if it's had been open/ if any guests had been there. this isnt a problem though as there's a gazillion pavement bars within a 5 minute walk. one tip, if you're fussy about pillows, bring your own. i found the pillows at cat huy and every other hotel so far to be way too plump (i like a medium flat pillow) giving me a sore neck each morning. also be prepared for cool showers, wasn't a problem though as weather was so hot and sticky, it was quite refreshing. all in all we'd definitely return and would recommend this to any of our friends and likeminded people wanting a very good, budget hotel to return to after days and nights exploring the craziness of ho chi minh city.

Very good value for money”
Cat Huy is an excellent budget hotel. The rooms are not in the least bit cramped and they are spotlessly clean. Nice clean sheets and towels. There is small fridge as well as a kettle and hair dryer in the rooms. Nice shower stall with a good water flow. (I can't stand showers that just dribble.) The hotel provided hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, shower cap, comb, cotton buds, sewing kit. (I'm including this information because not all budget hotels in Asia provide these things.) My room had a window but I was shown one that had none. There are also some rooms with a window and a small balcony. The staff was helpful and pleasant. The hotel is located in an alley which means that the noise from the main roads does not reach the rooms. This is a big advantage because the traffic noise in Ho Chi Minh is very loud. I found the location very convenient because Cat Huy is near a big park, many tour agencies, tons of good restaurants and shops and within walking distance of Ben Thanh Market. The break fast was go The only major disadvantage is that the hotel does not have an elevator. I'm used to climbing stairs so the climb to the 5th floor was no problem for me but it was could be hassle if you have a lot to carry.

Nice Boutique Hotel Large Rooms”
we stayed at the cat huy hotel for two nights on our arrival in ho chi mihn city, this hotel is a bargain at the price they are charging, only small with no lifts the sixth floof hurt a bit,the breakfest menu is small and half the dishes not available the veg pho was available one day and really good.rooms are large well appointed very clean ,staff are good bit funny when you leave all the help stops drag youre own bags to the road, once there someone will claim a cab for you,the cat huy isnt easy to find at first, using their car is a good idea for a few dollars extra.

Great stay! ”
The Cat Huy Hotel was a great place to stay, very close to the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. It was very easy to get around by foot and was a quick alleyway's distance from the main backpackers' street. A few minor things to note was the slightly ominous alleyway that the hotel was located. After our first night, we couldn't have felt safer and in the morning, the alley transformed into a bustling market. As we were on the front end of a big trip, we had quite a bit of luggage. Since there are no elevators, it was a bit of a trek up to the higher floors, but not a deal breaker by any means. The only real setback experienced were the ants that had seemed to colonize around the bathroom entrance and sink. To end on a good note, in addition to the great location and life of the area, the staff was extremely excellent and accommodating. Breakfast pho was delicious and service was always conducted with a smile. Furthermore, not only did the Cat Huy allow us to store or luggage for 6+ hours on our checkout day, I was personally motorbiked out to find some delicious local banh mi for dinner the evening after we had already checked out. Would recommend and would book this hotel again.

Excellent hotel, soooo cheap too!”
Pros: BIG rooms, great customer service, hard but comfortable beds, EXCELLENT room for the money Cons: not many breakfast options, late night in the alley seemed potentially dangerous, karaoke somewhere nearby can easily be heard in a 5th-floor room (but karaoke was over by 8pm every night so this is only a problem if you want to sleep during the day) We LOVED Cat Huy. We got the Superior room, which had a window but no view (not an issue for us). The staff was great, the breakfast was awesome -- you could have either a Vietnamese-style or English-style meal, but those were the only options. But do you really expect a full buffet breakfast for $20/night? The room was super clean and they give you 2 bottled waters/day. Of course you don't want to drink the tap water/ice or you will deal with Uncle Ho's Revenge, if you know what I mean. The little street market in the mornings was NOT little! It was a full-blown entire-street-long awesome fresh foods market. Very busy and fun. We had an early morning flight (5:45am) so we needed to leave Cat Huy at 3am. We had the clerk call for a taxi to meet us on the main street, but the walk through the alley at that time was a bit scary...plus we had read the review where someone got mugged. But nothing happened to us, thankfully. I would schedule your flight for around 9am so you don't have to worry about that.

Excellent Midrange Hotel”
My husband and I stayed here out first 2 nights in Saigon. The hotel staff (name is Phu) booked a 2 day Mekong Delta tour (which was $25USDpp and was fantastic) for us and when we returned to Saigon on the fourth night we decided to stay at Cat Huy again. Our room was 502 and it had a nice view of the City'so rooftop. The room was one of the most spacious we'vemail had during our trip to VN as well as one of the cleanest. We had a very comfortable stay all in all. Keep in mind that this hotel is located in an alley which is also a market during the morning so depending on the kind of traveller you are you could either love it or not. My husband and I thought that the alley market was one of the coolest feature because right after we enjoy our free breakfast included (pho without meat was da bomb) we would scour the busy market for coconut water, fruit and banh mi). Best way to start the morning and to immerse ourselves in the culture. Re location, we were smack dab in the middle of backpackers district between Pham Ngu Lao and Bui Vien street and about 10 minute walk to Ben Thanh market. Just a word of advice, do mot fear the alleyways... you can find a lot of shortcuts and when in doubt ask a local to point you in the right direction. Shops and restaurants were all within walking distance. We took taxis to explore other districts of Saigon. The staff allowed us to use the rooftop shower on our last night in Saigon even though we had already checked out that morning. Super friendly and keen to help. PS, if you go to the rooftop and climb up the spiral ladder you can take anote awesome photo of the Cify'so sunset. Needless to say we will definitely stay here again when we return to Saigon.

Best Budget Hotel in SE Asia!”
This was my second stay at Cat Huy and after traveling and living in SE Asia for over 4 years and staying in over 100 budget hotels, I can say, unequivocally, that Cat Huy is the best budget hotel in SE Asia! I would not change one little thing! Comfortable rooms - good showers, comfy beds, crisp sheets, spacious rooms with mini-fridges, TVs, and safes. Not a spec of mold in the bathrooms, cleanliness rating is 4-star for sure. The staff is fantastic - to a person, helpful and friendly. The breakfast is complete with several options to chose from - omelettes or noodles, fresh baguettes, etc. The location is incredible - in the heart to the tourist area, but as it is nestled into an alley off a main street it is remarkably quiet. You get the benefits of being in the tourist area, but step out in the morning into a bustling local community wet market the length of the alley offering fresh fish, veg, etc. Cat Huy is simply the best!

Great Base”
Just stayed @ Cat Huy 3 nights this past week. At first the trip up the back alley from where the driver had to park seemed confusing, but this was just because there is no parking up on the main ( and closer) main road. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Not expecting much after the little alley location I was very impressed and happy with the size and cleanliness of the room especially for the price and b/fast included, good bed and great shower pressure..Also has a secure in room safe . I was up one floor from check in (2nd floor) #302 with a small balcony. You dont have to struggle up the stairs with your bags as some have mentioned on here, the staff help with that .Be sure to look down on the amazing street market that sets up in the alley ea morning. Good location an easy xe om ride ( back of a motor scooter, cheaper than a taxi for solo traveller) to all the sites. There are cheaper backpacker ,noisy, shared bathroom places nearby but Cat Huy is worth the extra couple of bucks for a good nights sleep.

Great hotel - just be careful when checking in”
We decided to stay at Cat Huy Hotel after reading the glowing reviews on Agoda and, for the most part, these were well deserved. The hotel was in a great location, down a tiny alleyway off the main backpackers area in District One, which has plenty of good places to eat, drink, and generally just take in the action of HCMC. The hotel's location down the alleyway meant that, despite being so central, the rooms were very quiet - in fact, the quiestest we stayed in out of any in Veitnam. We stayed in a deluxe room (502), which was clean, spacious, comfortable, and well decorated, with a large window and little balcony overlooking the city. Unlike nearly every other hotel we stayed in in Vietnam, the shower did not flood or randomly go hot and cold. We were very happy. Now for the not so good points... When we tried to check in, we were told that the person staying in our room had decided to extend their stay and there were no other rooms available, but we could stay in an apartment building across the street (which had virtually no natural light and poor air-con). We told the receptionist we were not happy with this and, miraculously, our room became available. We were then given keys to someone else's room so we could have a look - not good for security. We were finally taken to our own room which, to our relief, was fantastic. Aside from the check-in issues, we were very happy with our stay at Cat Huy and would definately stay here again and recommend it to others - as with all hotels in Vietnam, it just pays to (politely) stick to your guns. [We didn't eat at the hotel, so cannot comment on breakfast]

Fantastic place to stay - in every respect!”
We stayed at Cat Huy in Saigon for 6 days having selected it after reading positive reviews on Tripadvisor. OK - the hotel was down an alley but if you want to see the real life of Saigon with the hustle and bustle of the market in the morning - and families relaxing over a game of chequers in the evening then this is the place for you. We felt very safe at all hours. The staff at the hotel were great - nothing was too much trouble and they were ready with advice and tips (e.g. roughly what might we paying for a taxi to X?) when requested; they really helped to make our stay enjoyable. The room was clean and well provided with furniture, balcony over-looking the alley - and with the heavy glazing no noise (we were on the 5th floor). One reviewer had complained about the number of stairs to their room: the staff leapt to help us with our cases on arrival and departure and on a daily basis we felt it was good to help work off the food excesses! Similarly, perhaps because we used the hotel to arrange a car to pick us up at the airport, the driver phoned ahead and one of the staff came to assist us down the alley from the main road to the hotel - ditto when leaving. Breakfast was a choice of omelette or local soups - we ate the omelette every day as although we loved the local food we found it too heavy a start. Lovely light omelette with fresh loaf, butter and a banana - just right for us. ENJOY!

Great Value & Location”
Because we were very happy with our stay at Cat Huy 2 years ago, we stayed again. We had an even better stay this time! The English speaking staff, Foo and Tu, were very helpful. And the non English speaking couple that cooks breakfast and manages (owns?) the hotel were particularly kind and accommodating. For example, every morning the woman would serve me fresh, unsweetened soya milk and a huge, varied fruit plate to accommodate my vegan diet, even though this was not listed on the menu. Additionally, the small morning market in front of the hotel provides an authentic slice of life view, as well as great fruits and veggies. Overall, Cat Huy Hotel is well located, reasonably priced, and run by extremely nice people. Thank you to everyone there! Marie

Clean with great location and incredible shower”
We stayed at at Cat Huy for 4 nights in October 2013. Cat Huy is located down an alley but It is not in the least sketchy. Its location is residential and filled with locals. Each morning, there is a vibrant marketplace just outside. That said, you are just a street away from the backpacker area, and all its subsequent restaurants / bars. It was the ideal location - quiet, but close to everything. The room itself was extremely clean and comfortable. The shower has incredible water pressure and heat - one of the best (if not the best) showers we've encountered in all of southeast Asia. Each morning there are several free choices for breakfast, but the best is the Pho. It is delivered directly from the aforementioned marketplace just outside. The staff is friendly and helpful. The one downside of this hotel is the internet speed. We had trouble watching any video or making video / audio calls over the connection. Overall though, we loved this place and would gladly stay again.

Great Little Hotel”
Cat Huy Hotel is a great little place. Its down an alleyway which in the morning is a busy whet market and then slowly gets quieter as the day progresses, so by nightfall the alley is quiet! This is great for when the noise of the city starts to get to you or even just need a good nights sleep (although the rooms are quite sound proof). The staff there are friendly and can help you with almost anything, from where to eat, where to go or how to say things in vietnamese! In the morning you get your choice of 4 breakfast meals which are cooked fresh and is super delicious! The only thing i can fault is that the mattress was a bit hard...but it wasnt a bother really. I can't recommend this place enough!

This hotel was central to everything I needed.”
My stay at Cat Huy Hotel was everything a tourist needed. Hotel was a bit out of the way of the buzz of the streets so it wasn't noisy but close enough to the action if you were looking for it. Since your there on vacation you know you'll be packing on the lbs. so to take care of that the hotel is right next to a park where you can exercise with the locals as they are very active there.. if not that a nice walk to the local market is always good. The staff was very helpful and communicable. They answered all my questions and also gave some helpful tips about the happenings in the area. My room was spacious with a clean bathroom. They kept it tidy. And for me Pho served for breakfast was just great! I highly recommend staying here!

Great Value for Money”
As mentioned by other reviewers the Cat Huy is down an intimidating looking alley but looks are deceptive. Although narrow and dark at night the alley forms a fascinating network through a safe residential area and transforms into a thriving market in the mornings. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean and provides great facilities. Yes, there's no elevator but if you get a room on an upper floor (5 and above) you are rewarded with great views over the city, especially at night. The breakfast is basic but very tasty and the staff are really helpful. I would return here again.

Quiet Haven from fhe motorised mayhem of Saigon”
The lack of noise is biggest selling point for the Cat Huy, The staff are very helpful and extremely polite, The room had the level of comfort one would expect the cost. I would stay here again without hesitation, The daily morning market right outside the hotel entrance adds a very nice touch as you start of day's adventures the second that you walk out the door. Arrving in the middle of the night - we arranged the airport transfer to take us direct to this hotel. So out first sensory impression of Vietnam was being led down the alleyway to get to the Cat Huy - a collision between first and third worlds ;) But the alleyways in and out of the hotel are safe. The room was on the 4th floor, but as noted by other reviwers - there is no lift - so if you tend to travel "heavy" then you will sweat if getting your stuff in and out.

Awesome staff, clean rooms and spot-on location ”
we had a great time at cat huy and ended spending 3 more nights here. the location is down a small alley on the main tourist road, so it is very quiet and relaxing. the rooms were very clean and had all the necessary facilities. the staff was very good at talking english, and excelled at service. in our case our camera was stolen, and so we told the staff and they took us to the police station despite that the time was 1130pm at we kept saying we wanted to sleep(glad that they did, since we might not have been able to report it the next day). in addition they worked as our translator for the police, and told us a lot of information about them for example that you have to pay the police in vietnam a certain amount of money in order to get them to work - an unofficial but necessary price our staff told us. seems a little corrupted in my eyes. anyway, word of advice, if you're going to the police, better bring some money - in our case. only cons would be breakfast, but it's the same as all other vietnamese hotel breakfasts.

Boutique Hotel in Good Location”
We have stayed in the Cat Huy several times, we used to stay in the five star area but now we prefer to be near to the restuarants, bars, and people. The cat Huy is located just off the main eating street in a Lovett localised part of Ho Chi Minh City, it's great to watch the locals go about their life as they have done for years, a special mention to the the staff that are more than accommodating,

Excellent stay but for one nitpicky point”
I had a fantastic stay at the Cat Huy. My goal was to have a clean, quiet and air-conditioned room with hot water, in-room wireless access and WINDOWS so I booked a "superior" room. The room had simple but elegant decor and contained all of these amenities, as promised, and during my stay they all functioned perfectly. The room went above my expectations as it also had a flat-panel t.v. with English cable channels, a sturdy writing desk, a small balcony, and a mini-fridge where I stored some leftovers - curious, I reviewed the amenities for "superior" rooms and because the room had a balcony, I strongly suspect I was upgraded to "deluxe." (And never presented with a bill for the difference). I had not just a few small windows, but a large picture window from which I had a wonderful view of the city skyline. I didn't spend much time interacting with the staff, but my short interactions were very courteous and positive. What keeps my review only 98% positive instead of 100% (like I said, nitpicky) - is that several services were advertised by the hotel and not available when I inquired. The first was currency exchange - as of the time of my booking, this service was advertised on their website but when I went to change $20 USD to VND, the desk staff told me to go to the bank, instead. (Which was easy to find and charged no conversion fee, so - no harm done). The second was that in the book provided in the room with advertisements for various tours and other tourist activities, I asked the front desk staff to help me book the advertised cyclo tour and they told me there was no such tour. Was I really inconvenienced? No. But in principle, businesses should be careful to actually offer all of the services they advertise... All in all, excellent stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Large and clean rooms”
Great hotel near the tourist area of Pham Ngu Lao, where you can book your tours. Ho Chi Minh is a walkable city so location is ok even though quite far to the city area/malls, just take a taxi if you dont want to walk. The rooms are large compare to other hotels, only cons would be the stairs, our room is on the 6th floor. But overall value for money.
