Traveler impressions of Suratthani
A simple town not polluted by the commercials yet. You hardly meet any Thai people who can speak English.
Even the hotel staff converse in very basic English. If you wish to travel there, I would suggest you to snapshot or go online to search for the food you want to eat and the place you want to go. Communicate via photo seems to be a better idea, otherwise have google translate ready so that you are able to communicate to each other. Songteaw or tuk-tuk is the common transportation, for this, it is better to have the place you want to go to be written down in Thai.
Surat Thani is very much a stop over city. Especially for vegetarians, it is a bit difficult to find food here.
I also think it is a little expensive (by Thai standards) to get transport here. I enjoy staying one night at a time between flights or ferries, but other than that I am not sure Surat Thani is an attractive in and of itself.
It is ideal place for stopover to koh samui as it is near to the Surat thani airport which has direct cheap flight from Malaysia Kl to Surat thani via airasia.
Average size city, busy during the day, relaxed at night. Small mall downtown, bug mall just outside town limits.
Several temples to visit, several restaurants all over. Train station quite a distance from the town, need to take a taxi.
We stayed in Surat Thani purely because we had to catch a train from here at 1am in the morning on our way to Malaysia.
It's really just a transport hub to Koh Samui / Krabi / Phuket etc.
Not a city with abounding in attractions but with local knowledge or reading up, there is enough to interest for two or three days.
For the business traveller, an excellent central location, travel amenities in all directions, good hotels with conference facilities
being the largest province of the South Thailand, this place has been well know among the travelers for transiting to Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and the Mu Koh Ang Thong Marine National Park.
Staying a night here to enjoy some of the most authentic Thai food at a great price is something that I would recommend.
The province which you can stop for relax before go the other place or stay for 3-4 days for walking at night market, beach, eat out, canoeing, and others
Kind of small city, not much to see. Nice place to stay for a night or two on a pass through. A couple monuments and temples around the city to see.
Friendly people as usual. Train station is located on the outside of town, $150-200B each way. Many food options and 7/11 everywhere.
Mainly a 1-2 night stop over point for tourists heading to Koh Samui. Not really a whole lot to do here.
A few statues and temples to visit. Several shops and food vendors in the main area of town. A small mall near the waterfront down town. A large mall, central plaza, just outside of the downtown area. Tuk tuk are everywhere, with very cheap prices. Many places to eat local food, as well as western type food.
I was stay at the hotel just for short time but it was the second time for me because i really enjoy the stay there.
The hotel was nice and located in the central which is good location.
Not so many activity can be done at this town. There's Central Plaza but located bit far from town. There's no public transport after 9.
Very nice city. Many local places to eat. Many local places to buy anything you're looking for. Several modes of transportation available.
Good place to spend a night or two when in transit to Koh Samui or heading to Phuket. Great shopping mall at Central Plaza.
Typical city but with enough sights and facilities to be worth a touring visit. As a regular visitor, it serves all my needs.
The whole place is has been used as a stop for people traveling to the near by islands. If you have time and can avoid this place it would be recommended to either go to Krabi town or Ao Nang.
This town is quite unfriendly. I suggest only staying here to get to and from your ultimate destination.
I live in Thailand and lived in Surat for 3 months. Life is too short to spend any more time here than necessary.
Nothing spectacular, large city with some beautiful temples, good shopping malls, local shopping at reasonable prices and a high quality hospital.
Plenty of eating places of varied cuisines.
This province is very famous for salted eggs ( Thai food). You must try. I really like it but have to eat with rice.
friendly people and most Thais speak and understand English. Visit the night market which is just 5 minutes away from the My Place Hotel.
Good transit for tourist to and fro Malaysia, Bangkok, Krabi etc.
You must try the seafood at the restaurant named Lumpoo 3, and the local Thai food at the restaurant named Lucky.
Suratthani is a rural area , not many attractive place to go, but the night market there have a lot of nice food.
The night market at the city center got various choice of local Thailand food worth trying. The foods was great and the items that sells there are consider value for money.
There is even a shopping center nearby the night market.
If you need a stop over for the night. That is all. This place is not the kind of place where you can see good Thai politeness and hospitality.
Everybody try to kill you if you are not local. Short tuktuk ride 5 minutes cost 150baht, 1000% more than Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The only place you will be ok and not conned for money are the KFC and McDonalds joints. No massage shop readily available. Called the hotel service, massage was bad, end up with more knots instead. I am never setting foot in this place again, ever. It is that bad
Not much here for tourists. They are known for their foods, but this will probably be lost on anyone who hasn't been in Thailand very long to appreciate the nuances.
Shopping at Central is good if you need some "international" items. The national parks and Khao Sok are nearby, and those are why I am usually in the area.
clean quiet city. Surprisingly shops close at 9pm to 9.30pm sharp. Lack of night activity. Night market is pretty quiet.
Surat thani town is only for those who intend to catch a flight back to country via koh phangan/samui.
Quite a large city. Was only there 1 night and had some drinks around night market and food nearby but not sure I ever found the actual 'heart' of the city in terms of bars, pubs, etc Usually a stop off point for going elsewhere in Southern Thailand like the islands but a pleasant enough place to spend a day or two Head to the night market near the nightboar pier for cheap food and drinks
Suratthani's best hotels with breakfast
Staff very nice and good service, you can get early check in if they have room available
Clean room good service and various breakfast
Very nice place, clean, cheap, with restaurant next to the river.
Good place to stay not far from the city and reasonable price
Staff are helpful and friendly.
This hotel is the only 3-4* hotel in town, provide good room stay and good breakfast.
What a clean & spacious room with huge private swimming pool.
Great location with comfortable room
The room was big, clean with good bathroom and quiet efficient Aircon.
Excellent place to spend a weekend or to stop for a night when traveling in this area.
Really nice location & bamboo huts, really clean and helpfull staff!
Recoomended pool view with magnolia tree scent really nice place.
