Great historic hotel in the centre of Oamaru”
Lovely place to stay right in the middle of Oamaru, and a short walk to the Historic area. The penguin colony was just a short drive. The room was perfect for what I need, the bed very comfortable and the breakfast consisted of perfectly soft poached eggs. Highly recommend the Brydone Hotel Oamaru.

Basic but functional”
Well situated in central Oamaru the bedrooms at the Brydone have not really moved on very much from those of the earlier years. Whilst relatively spacious and comfortable, there is little to distinguish the 'deluxe' rooms from those classified as basic - lacking in overall comfort. Moreover, the soundproofing is somewhat lacking as we were above a wedding reception in the evening, and then woken on the Sunday morning by the 'dulcit' tones of a church service in one of the function rooms. Could do with a QUALITY makeover beyond painting/papering over the 'cracks'. Reasonable bar and restaurant area which had clearly been refurbished. The staff in general however, and the receptionist in particular, were very welcoming and accommodating (made the effort to find us a better room, even though the hotel was quite full). Would we stay there again . . . ?????

We accidentally left something of importance to us in our room, only discovering this the next day shortly before returning to Australia. Staff at the Brydone in Oamuru were exceptionally helpful and went out of their way in mailing the item to us in Australia. Thank you Brydone.

Hotel was undergoing renovation, on entering from car park, reception wrongly signposted, making a walk upstairs and down again most unnecessary. NO LIFTS WORKING AT ALL ! When this was pointed out to staff, they didn’t even know the lifts had been halted due to works going on. Such a shame as the room wa s very nice.

When we arrived, the staff at reception was rude, without any greeting, first thing is to ask for your credit card,because I already paid, asked him why still need my credit card, he said just for if I purchased breakfast, actually it is for the paper which I signed if smoke, it is kind of cheating, actually my husband he smoke beside the window, they supposed tell people first, really bad experience

Great weekend. ”
We came down for a family 21st birthday. Our room was perfect for what we needed. We got to enjoy the steampunk festival. Thee was also a car rally going on that stayed at The Brydone. So we were able to see all the car's. The people in Oamaru were all friendly. Even thou we were tavelling in our iwn vehicle. The Bydone was so central that we could walk to mjst of yge places we were going.. will definitely stay again.

Nice old hotel”
we had a good stay at Brydone Hotel, The room is a good size, and the beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. It is a old hotel, and depending on what part of the hotel they put you in. the front main hotel has a grand hotel fell. but we were put in the back section, the hotel is going through renovation when we went, so a bit of work was happening when we were staying, didn't effect us to much but trades people were working in the morning and during the day. Our room had recently been renovated with a new bathroom fittings. They have a lift that can take you to the second floor via the rear entry which is good for people with lots of luggage or need accessibility access. We will stay in this establishment again.

Very nice Hotel. Older style but very clean and comfortable. Restaurant serving very good breakfast. Staff very helpful. Good location for seeing Oamaru. Very quiet town.
