            Fantastic”

I had a fantastic time at Baan Bua Guesthouse! Such a beautiful garden, nice guests, centrally located, quiet little street, comfortable rooms and beds, very attentive staff, and the owner Tim is not only very professional but she is also super sweet! Her English is very good and we shared many talks about Thai life and she helped me out getting my visa extension here in Chiang Rai. Thank you Tim & staff!! Wish you all the best 🙏🏽

Nice guesthouse in the town center”

There are three hostels called Baan Bua in Chiang Rai ! Show the adress to the taxi driver to avoid any misunderstanding. The guesthouse was very nice, in a garden. Breakfast was good and generous. Very close to the center and markets, as well as motorbike location shops. Wifi works better on the terrace. No noise at night.

            Excellent backpacker hostel”

So I needed a place to stay last minute and Baan Bua definitely was exactly what I needed. The location is perfect, near the night market, bus station, clock tower, etc. The staff was very nice and helpful even when I was not the nicest guest due to being exhausted from to much traveling. Also the owner is very nice and very helpful. Its nice that they have a small garden and you can see the owner and staff putting good energy to make the place that much more special. I stayed in a mixed 6 bed dorm and it was perfect. It was clean and up to date. The bathroom was good and as well as the shower. The beds were comfortable and I wasnt bothered by mosquitos. I would have given a 5 star for facilities if there was a proper kitchen to do your own cooking. But they serve food and beverages if that is to your liking. I also made some great friends and got some much needed rest.

            Lovely hotel and great location!”

AMAZING FOOD, great service, comfortable beds, cute terrace, free wi-fi

I loved this guesthouse. The place was accommodating to every need I had. The service was excellent and the front desk lady answered every question I had with more than I expected. The food at the resturaunt there is great too. They special made me a dish after I couldn't find anything that fit my dietary needs, and it was the best meal I had all week! The location is also great. THe hotel is hidden behind a row of houses so it is quiet from the main street, but only steps away from the main "backpacker row" of Chiang Rai. When I arrived back to my hotel later the first night the lady at the front desk came to tell me about an event happening that night that I did not know about because she wanted to invite me along. It really felt like a "hostel style community" with privacy as you ahve your own room and private bathroom. I highly recommend this place!!

An island oasis in the middle of town”

Stayed here again. When I am on business going through northern Thailand I stay here. It's a quiet little jungle like oasis in the city with easy walking to everything that you need. The staff is delightful and know me and that makes visiting even more enjoyable. It's not luxurious but adequate and clean. I definitely recommend Baan Bua.

            Nice little place to stay”

            Location, value for money

Wonderful! It's within walking distance to the provincial bus station, free entertainment Night Bazaar and Lonely Planet's top choice Nam Ngiao traditional lunch outlet at Th Sanpannard. However, you may find that it's a wee bit difficult to locate Ban Bua Guesthouse as the people around may direct you instead to Ban Bua Homestay which is at a different location. If you are coming from the bus station, walk on Th Phahonyothin with the Night Bazaar entrance and Thai Airways office on your right, then turn left at Top Charoen Optical shop, after reaching the end turn left again, walk straight till you see Ban Bua Guest House sign on a pole to your left and finally turn left into the lane towards Ban Bua Guest House. After reaching, you'll have an enjoyable stay like I did. Cheers!

            Good for the price”

Friendly staff, great price, reasonably clean

For the price Baan Bua is a great deal. The staff are very friendly, it's reasonably clean and has a nice garden area. A few setbacks was the lack of internet in the rooms - I could only access it from the communal areas. Secondly, the sheets were all a bit wor. - mine had several holes in them and appeared a bit stained. Apart from that, Baan Bua is in a great location and slightly set back from the main roads so is quiet at night. I would recommend his place to others on a tight budget, but there are also others in the near vicinity which have better wifi access (if that's what you require).

Pink! Friendly hosts with lots of local information, nice comfy bed

we arrived on a late minibus from chiang mai and walked around the corner to the guesthouse. it wasn't the warmest welcome and it seemed that they had not updated their booking status on agoda because their rooms were full. however, for the same price, we were put up in the baan bua home stay which is just around the corner and actually seemed much nicer. it is garishly painted bright pink but the family who run the place are very friendly and welcoming and organised a car for us to go and visit our friend at her hot springs coffee shop as well as the white temple and other sights. the room was small but with a very comfortable bed and a unique open air bathroom! the breakfasts were pretty good, i particularly enjoyed the "northern style" but it was way too much and pretty porky!

Yep hotel is simple and basic. But it has perfect location and close to everything. Owner is fantastically friendly, she picked us up from airport and assisted in rent-a-bike service. She also suggested local restaurant that serves North-Thai food. I presume breakfast in Baan Bua is also nice but we didn't try. We recommend.

            Basic Accommodations”

            Cheap, clean, and quiet

The place was nice, and the staff was helpful. Rooms were clean, however basic. My only real issue was that there is also a Ban Bua Homestay in town not far from this plae which is completly separate and named Ban Bua Guest House. Our taxi driver took us to the wrong one and we had to find our way to the right place- again, not far, but not expected or fun. Therefore, be careful of that. Oh yes! The bed was really comfy as well! Yet the food menu seemed expensive for the value.

The guest house is in convenient walking distance from Bus Terminal 1 (I arrived there with the local Bus from Chiang Khong, and there is also a good shuttle bus to the airport) and from the center with walking street... I enjoyed to sit on my terrace facing the garden. People there are really nice and helpful and I found it great they provided free drinking water to refill my bottle.

            great location

Booked the place based on price and its location. Overall, I was very happy with this guesthouse. Owner was very helpful and friendly. Despite of its central location, my room was quiet. Chiang Rai bus station is within walking distance. Although there is no fridge in the room, there are many restaurants and 7/11-s close by.

Great spot for cheap solo room”

            Layout, quiet, hot water

I enjoyed Baan Bua. It is not the most modern place, but it is clean and comfortable. You can tell it is an older building, but it has been well kept. The layout gives you a small room that opens onto a little porch. Nice places to sit and read or work on emails. Very private and the staff is kind and helpful when needed and otherwise they leave you to yourself. Close to bars and food, but off the main road enough to be a quiet space. Good cheap stay for a solo traveler!

            Okay”

The Guest House is in a good location. The rooms are plain with just a bed but they are clean and spacious. Maybe it's better if you stay in the dorm but you don't get in touch with people in the garden which is a shame. Everybody just sits at his own table. The lady at the reception who also takes care of the breakfast is quite unfriendly. So I left after two nights since Chiang Rai didn't convince me to stay longer, either.

Centrally located, value for money, basic amenities”

            Inexpensive guesthouse, centrally located

Value for money in a very basic accommodation along Jedyod Road, parallel to & 1 block from the main road. The rooms face a garden. My room - 12A (room 13 doesn't exist) has adequate size. The bathroom occupies a third of the room: dry, clean, newly tiled. My room has a fan and big springy bed, far from the best I've had in my 15-hotel, 3 week travels but it's good for its rate. I'd suggest a little table in the room because its kinda spare - just bed and fan and nothing else. No dresser or chair or anywhere I could read or write. They have a restaurant which opens 7:30AM. The owner is friendly. If you book for a taxi to the airport - 200B, she will mostly drive you, and I had a pleasant time chatting with her on the way to the airport. Classy Thai lady and quite knowledgeable too. We chatrted about the airport, expansion, Thai politics, the floods, etc. The guesthouse is near Jedyod Temple; the road opposite this temple leads to the Clock Tower. There's an internet cafe along the same road at 40 an hour. Jedyod Street is lined by restaurants and dodgy massage bars. If budget is a concern, Ban Bua is an acceptable option although nearby City Home Guest house at the adjacent street is closer to the bus station and has a little more amenities to speak of. The place enjoys full capacity most of the time so book ahead. Most guests are Europeans.

Very Cheap Option, you get what you pay for”

            kind staff, good breakfast, cheap

My friend and I were taking a weekend trip to Chiang Rai and needed the cheapest option possible. Ban Bua was at a great location for the Night Bazaar and the Saturday Night Market. The staff was very friendly, and had pretty good English. The internet was free for the first 20 minutes, and there was a fee after that, but we found that it took about 10 minutes for a page to load, so needless to say, we were not on the internet much in Chiang Rai. The bed was really comfortable in the room, and it was adequately clean (the towels were a little musty). We only booked a "fan room", so the humidity was sort of bad, but all-in-all it was what we paid for. I would stay there again if I was on a budget.

The hostel is about 7 minutes walk from the Chiang Rai night bazaar, friendly staff, many bars and restaurants within walking distance. Relatively clean, large rooms. However, it’s easy to get a feel that the place needs a little overhaul. Beds are starting to cave from wear, toilets don’t flush properly. If you are a princess, stay elsewhere.

Very helpful owner and the location

We liked this place so much we came back a second time. The lovely and extremely helpful owner "Tim" is the best part of this guesthouse. She greets every request with a smile and all the help she can give. She is very knowledgeable about Chiangrai and its surroundings, ways to travel onward including good guesthouses - and when offering suggestions she took into account our mobility issues. The guest house is close to the main street and night market, but is in a quiet residential corner. The garden is a lovely spot to sit, relax, have a good meal. The room was basic and very clean. Bed was comfortable. Fan worked well.
