The best hotel in Penang”

Found Areca through a blog. Give it a try for my girls trip and truly fell in love with literally everything about this hotel I even brought my family to stay here again couple of weeks after my first trip. Location wise : You won’t get any better loc than Areca. Almost everything is within 5 mins walk. Hameediyah, line clear, chowrasta, roti bakar transfer rd. Roti Bakar Hutton Lane basically just steps away. Grab was easy and abundance. Room : worth every single penny. Very spacious even for family of 6 like us. Beautifully and thoughtfully decorated Spotless clean. Crisp bedlinen and good towel. No designated parking for hotel guests, this is also applied for almost all boutique hotels in georgetown. However there’s always empty spots during our stay so parking really wasn’t that big of an issue for us. Can buy the parking coupon from the hotel reception which costs us RM6 for a day pass. Truly a gem this hotel. Will always be our go to everytime we’re in Penang.

Excellent place to stay”

Areca Hotel lives up to its reviews - the staff are very friendly and helpful, the rooms clean and the location is perfect. The hotel is right by the famous Roti Bakar Hutton Lane, Penang Road famous chendol, the Apom Bakar stall and Prangin Mall. The touristy area of Georgetown is a ten minute stroll, and there are so many new hip cafes/restaurants for those who want a bit of fine dining alongside their street food. I would highly recommend staying here, and I would gladly stay here time and time again.

To rediscover Ancestral Migrant Route & childhood memories about Penang ”

Safe & pleasant to walk & find the Landry shop where my ancestors set foot in Penang ie Kuala Kangsar Road. Found the “past neighbourhood still full of energy & activities” like the butcher & sundry shop. Convenient location to retrace my childhood memories of shopping in Campbell Street, watch movies in the Cathay & Odeon cinemas, eating road side stalls along Kimberly Lane & the chendol along Penang Road. This location is most ideal & strategic to complete my purpose. Staff is overly polite to assist & most helpful even to book a Grab to my next stay, Hotel G in Gurney. Love this row of old houses with high ceiling to create a serene & tranquil atmosphere. Nostalgic even because this lobby was the house of my schoolmate in the 1970. The room was more than adequate with delightful ancient touches, especially with the flip open windows and the most surprising ceiling fan. I enjoyed my 3D2N stay in Areca Hotel most wonderfully. A beautiful hotel of nostalgia”

I love the British colonial revivial architecture of Areca Hotel. The rooms are comfortable, elegant, cozy, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive. I stayed for 5 days and enjoyed it very much. Love the free breakfast... the Nasi Lemak is superb! It is close to the supermarket, night markets, walking distance to the museums and famous eateries. I would stay here again when I come to penang. So happy I found this hotel! Very very good! Secret- there is the best Char Siew Pau pastry, 5 mind walk along the side of the police station and at the traffic lights. Corner shop that sells all kinds of Penang pastry. They have it at 9 am and 3 pm. Go early to get it or it will be all gone!

A magical stay ”

This hotel is the best by far compared to many that I've stayed in Penang before. We were there for anniversary trip n highlighted to management just so we could at least be put in a better view room but not just a better room they put us,it's the best room ever! Scented candles,beautiful swan towel decoration with roses and a bottle of complimentary sparkling juice..it is indeed a very generous efforts from them.I hope Areca hotel continue to maintain the cleanliness and authenticity of this heritage hotel. Will definitely return in future..For customers that are planning to drive,parking is public as hotel do not provide but it's no biggie compared to the beautiful stay that you will be experiencing. Double thumbs up!

Gorgeous Heritage Hotel & Friendly Staff”

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our time at Areca Hotel. We stayed in a very spacious Heritage Room and we loved the tiling, furniture, and decor within the space and throughout the hotel. As an architect, my husband really enjoyed seeing how the space had been renovated for modern conveniences. The included breakfast was generous with the small continental breakfast buffet and an additional ala carte menu. This set us up perfectly for a day exploring George Town, and coming back for the complimentary afternoon tea was a great respite from the heat of the day's exploration. On our second day, we the hotel was gracious enough to pack a light breakfast for us to go as we needed to leave by 7 am for an excursion on the western side of the island. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short as I made an error with our flights and we had to head out a day earlier than expected. We were sad to get to spend another evening and day at Areca Hotel, but I would highly recommend this space!

Pleasantly surprised by the nice ambience, rich colours and stately design of Areca Hotel in a Heritage Area of Penang. Coupled with proximity of many restaurants and cafes serving up great local cuisines... Areca Hotel Penang is definitely topping up 5-Stars rating in Excellence, and Great Sights and Sounds. Good location, but not for light sleepers”

We enjoyed our stay here, it is a small hotel with attentive staff who helped us with directions, food reservations (and recommendations). The location is in the heart of Georgetown, just across the famous chendol. Great access to cafes and food areas, with the CAT bus stop nearby at the Komtar. It was a great touch by Areca hotel to offer complimentary tea daily (light refreshments and tea/coffee) which were nice. However there are some things to note: - beds/pillows were soft, so our backs hurt on our third night here - the linen gave me a rash on my face (I have sensitive skin) but this was solved once we requested a change of linen - it is located near a mosque, so there are daily morning prayers (before 6am) which woke me up as I’m a light sleeper. But of course it was easy to fall back asleep because the hotel is generally quiet - walls are quite thin and we could hear children running about in the room above. Overall, would recommend because of the location and nice staff if you are not a light sleeper.

A haven for writers, dreamers and solo travellers”

I was in Penang for some writing inspo and got more than what I expected from Areca Hotel with its quiet library, breezy rooms. comfortable bed, power shower and lovely staff. The location is perfect for foodies as signature Penang stalls and restaurants are within walking distance. I was quite pleased with the fact that Grab food can deliver to the hotel within minutes too. I will definitely come here again, perhaps next time to try their loft room.

Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Staff”

Areca is located very near to most attractions in the heritage area in Georgetown so you can practically walk to anywhere and save on transport, though Grab is easily available and affordable. The hotel is lovely, with spacious rooms and clean. Apart from the breakfast provided (if you choose the option to include), they also serve local snacks and ice cream for tea time! Staff were very friendly, warm and helpful! I highly recommend this hotel to newbies and seasoned travellers to Penang .

The whole experience of staying at this hotel was great and I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. We stayed in family suite. It's very spacious and clean. As I travelled with my father who is wheelchair-bound, I am thankful that this hotel has an elevator which makes moving easier. The staff was very helpful and I like the menu selection offered at the café. Ample parking spaces are available at the hotel but do make sure to download Penang Smart Parking app to prevent yourself from getting fined 😌 Thank you Areca Hotel for the great experience.

Birthday Trip!”

I chanced upon Areca at Agoda while scrolling for hotels in Penang and saw its affordable price and decided to give it a try for our first stay experience! Was quite impressed with its cosy & nice deco in the room. Its location is really prime and easily accessible by foot to nearby eating places as well. We will definitely come back if we visit Penang in the future!

Excellent heritage hotel”

This is a beautiful heritage hotel within walking distance of local attractions. The stay was excellent from check in to check out. Hotel is beautiful, well maintained, clean, peaceful and all staff were wonderful. Breakfast and afternoon coffee was included with our heritage room and had a good choice and was well presented. Room was large, very clean and had air con and fans. This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. Thanks for making our stay at Areca Hotel a fantastic experience and I highly recommended this hotel.

Great stay at an amazing property”

The Areca breathes history, it is a beautifully restored building. staff was super friendly, restaurant was really delicious and the afternoon tea was a welcome break from the heat outside. Location really good too! Would definitely recommend staying here when visiting Georgetown!

Love our stay in Areca hotel, location is perfect, close from the heritage of georgetown and delicious eatery, the building itself is very charming, love the lobby and their detail, enjoy the room, 4-6pm complimentary tea time in the courtyard definitely something that you want to miss.

Great Stay ”

Our family room is huge, clean & cosy. Breakfast is excellent. There is also the mini 'high-tea' set (@RM28 for 2 pax) which consists of many types of Malaysian's tea time favourites, I think this is a brilliant idea. Lunch menu is equally as good, reasonably priced & very 'Malaysian', imagine having chicken-rendang burger! Staying in Areca Hotel has made our trip much more pleasant and enjoyable, thank you.

We had to get a last minute booking due to a cancelled flight and so glad we found the Areca Hotel. We loved our stay here. It was very family friendly - the staff were warm and friendly and if there were any issues they saw to it straight away. The location was very convenient to everything. We couldn't fault it. Once upon a time in the land of Kapitan China & prewar townhouses era. ”

Without doubt one of my favorite hotels to stayed during my time in Penang! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and been served with refreshing drink. The hotel is located at very good location (the famous Roti Bakar Hutton Road, Penang Road and Pasar Chowrasta). The design and architecture are two important factors that can spoil your eyes. Experience a unique stay at the historical building which I rarely find in other places. We had two great evenings here, which obviously also added up to the experience. All respect for the general manager who does a great job here; I had issue with booking and with help of Ms Zela, Agoda Customer Experience Group, they managed to reinstated my reservation. What a true sample of excellent hospitality!

Areca is a very beautiful hotel in the centre of Georgetown. Very nice and friendly personal management style and ethical staff practice. We stayed in the small room but would definitely try the heritage room next time as it is so different and huge! Will be even better when the overpass walkway renovation just next door is competed.

Excellent Location”

The location is excellent and everything is within walking distance. The peranakan style decor is lovely and that was the main reason I chose to stay in Areca. We were staying in Garden Room and it was quite small but it was very clean, comfortable and had everything we need. The room next door was undergoing minor reparation so the noise was quite disturbing but because we didnt stay in the room during the day so it wasnt really a big deal. I would definitely stay here again.
