Traveler impressions of Nongkhai
Very nice riverside promenade allows for long walks or bicycle rides. Many places to eat and shop and town has a very nice vibe to it.
A small laid back town with very little tourist. More a backwater town where people are not friendly probably the lack of Interaction with tourist.
The Aquarium is a great way to learn more about NK. Also the museum gives you insight into the culture and history to the area.
Nongkhai is the town to pass to Lao and nothing to remember but Sri chaingmai is bueatiful than town
Nongkhai is the last province when you want to across the country and travel at Lao especially for Vientiane City then they have many religious and culture places for whom interested
Nong Khai is usually just a "gateway" into or out of Vientiane, Laos. However, it has a bit more going for it than Vientiane other than food options in Vientiane that are far superior.
Nongkhai is quiet city and you can tour around the city and shopping at the Indichina market near the Mekhong river it is very nice
the more culture you know and respect you give to the locals the more they will be willing to help you and give you a good deal.
This place has many histories of the relationship between Thailand and neighbor countries. It is amazing to learn their cultural and traditional.
Our only recommendation is to visit Sala Keoku which is incredible and much more interesting/aesthetic than a lot of typical wats around Thailand.
I found it most interesting and will stay longer next time as much to see if you have a car. A quiet town and used mainly for people passing through between Laos and Thailand.
Wonderful part of Thailand. Still relatively untouched by the very tourist intensive places such as Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya.
You must go to The Sculpture Garden at a nearby wat (forgot the name). Amazing! Walk along the river as far as it stretches.
Not an enormous amount to see and do in Nong Khai. Visit Sala Keo Kou, Wat Pho Chai and the must is Tha Sadet Market, don't go after dark though, this is a day time affair.
It is a real border city. So there is a great deal to do, shop for, see, and simply explore. being so close to Laos means that there is a mix of Thai/Laos elements to take in.
Gate way to Lao via Vien Tien. Lots of Historical Sites and Temples. Looking VienTien from Sri Chiang Mai town, very nice view.
Dinner on the river is good but the market is nothing special. It's a good place to stay if you are traveling over to Laos or going back down to Bangkok and catching a bus.
It is larger than I would have expected, with a nice riverside parade. But the riverside cafes open too late for breakfast and most close too early for dinner ! But I found a lovely Italian place for dinner just off the river.
It is usually hot and humid, so try to go during the winter months. If you are not into the folklore of nagas, avoid the end of Buddhist Lent.
For me, I find Nongkhai is a wonderful place to visit. I went to a few places, the famous Sala Kaeo Ku, Phra Aram Luang Wat Pho Chai and Tha Sadet Market.
Nongkhai's best hotels with breakfast

I really liked the Tanzeno hotel. While Nong Khai is not a large Thailand City, the hotel is minutes off the main highway to Vientiane. The rooms were modern, clean and well-furnished; the hotel was good value for money. The staff was pleasant and helpful. My stay was highlighted by an unfortunate incident – my fault entirely. The room had a safe and as I usually do w...

I had noticed this hotel almost 1 year ago as I live in Nongkhai and thought I must try this hotel one day. Its location is close to the Friendship Bridge and Immigration. It is about a 5-10 minute ride from the centre of Nongkhai and its attractions. The hotel has a swimming pool which is clean and an outside dining area. We stayed in the wooden bungalow which was tra...

Great little hotel in NongKhai. We spotted it last time we were in the town but had already booked elsewhere. We were most happy for the peace and quiet of this hotel after the visa run to Laos. The garden and views of the river are beautiful and then we walked into town for a meal at a Vietnamese restaurant on the river which seemed popular with local residents. T...

I had such a great time staying here. Their room and shower room were clean and cozy. Also, they have unique and interesting artworks as well. The staff name Nom was super friendly and helpful. He even gave me a ride to the bus station in the morning. I would definitely recommend this place and I will for sure stay there next time I visit Nong Khai!

There are two hotels in Nong Khai, the Nongkhai Hotel and Resort and the Nongk Khai resort both close to the train station. The hotel is part of a parking lot come warehouse and is quite a way from the main city and restaurants, you definately need a car to stay here or use a Tuk Tuk or Taxi to get into the city. The plus point is that if you wish to obtain a v...
