absolutely delightful”

everywhere i usually stay in dunedin was booked out and was therefore "forced" into seeking accommodation with a higher price tag than i usually do. given this, i then expected more than what i usually receive, and i was not at all disappointed. in fact, i would very definitely return again, despite a higher than normal (for me) tariff. speaking of tariff, however, do check very carefully what you are being actually charged against what the motel is offering. i found the agency through which i booked (on line), had misquoted the actual tariff by 50%, so i spent a great deal more than was expected. despite the expense, the motel is absolute value for money, particularly if you get an upstairs spa studio. when i first arrived, the roadside sign announced it as an “econo lodge”. having stayed in many of these while travelling in the united states, the room (which is actually a series of rooms) was very well furnished with a leather lounge suite (all recliners), very stylish table and chairs, mobile television set and queen size bed (amongst other items). adding to the unique atmosphere was a loft bedroom (a first (and wonderful) experience for me). the unit also had a balcony, as well as a separate bathroom and toilet. the bathroom (which is separated from the toilet has an enormous spa bath, from which you can soak and watch television at the same time. now that (for me anyway) is luxury. the guest information booklet is also very informative. there is a 24 hour general supplies shop right across the road, but dunedin’s main shopping centre is a mere 10 minutes’ walk away, where retail outlets and restaurants abound. it may take a great deal longer, therefore, than ten minutes to reach the city centre given the many diversions you are likely to make.

Really enjoyed our stay in Dunedin. Alcala was an excellent place for our family and we really appreciated the space and the free laundry facilities! The location and facilities worked great for us.

Excellent value”

We stayed here on a previous trip, & will stay here again if passing through Dunedin. The layout of the room was well thought out with doors to close off the kitchen from the living room area. The whole area was spacious.

The gem of dunedin”

This is a great motel giving real value for the price. I have stayed there whenever I'm in Dunedin and have done so since the 1970's. The fact that I've gone back there, time after time says it all.

Idealy situated to the universty for graduation”

It was ideal as we were in Dunedin for a grandaughter's graduation from Otago University two blocks away. Only niggle was some light bulbs out and no spares available. We would definitely use it again if the occasion ever arose.

Pleasant place to stay with friendly staff”

Due to an illness in the family it ended up being me and my three young boys spending two nights in Dunedin alone. The accommodation and location were great though and made the holiday easy and enjoyable. The staff were very helpful and very nice when we had a bit of an incident with a hot chocolate and the carpet. The only thing I didn't like was that the water in the tap was extremely hot and could've been dangerous with the kids.

Centrally located and clean”

The stay at Econo Lodge Alcala motel is most enjoyable. It is big for 4 of us. The rooms are clean and the motel is centrally located.

Awesome stay”

It was lovely. Had stayed a month before at a place down the road and there is no comparison. Alcazar motor lodge was wonderful. A bit retro but very clean and well maintained. Impressed

Convenient location”

Dunedin is a nice and beautiful city to visit. The lodge is clean and within walking distance to city centre. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The amenities are a bit old and might need some updating. Overall it is a reasonable value for money lodge for a short overnight stay.

Very uncomfortable beds and needs upgrading”

Our stay at the Econo Lodge was okay but the beds were extremely uncomfortable and need replacing. Overall the room was clean and a good location to the centre of the city.

Nice hotel, good stay”

Overall satisfaction is good. We have a group of 5 stay 2 nights at this hotel. Room size is average for 5, not too big but also not too small. The kitchen is little bit smaller, no freezer in the unit. However the staff is very helpful and help to keep our frozen food in their store freezer. The hotel also provide laundry and clothes dryer with no charge! The hotel is not the best but it is still above average and overall is good and satisfied us in experience.

The room is big and clean with well equipped kitchen, free laundry, and easy parking area, stuff is very helpful and caring, will go all out to make your stay comfortable, petrol station and supermarket just across the road, town centre just 5 minutes walk, with lots of good restaurants in the area, econo motel is highly recommended.

Review of Alcala Hotel”

We found the hotel in a busy part of Dunedin amongst student accommodation so very noisy also right opposite a 24hour night dairy.

large hotel room provide good rest”

our stay was very nice. the hotel room is large and convenient, with high ceilings. the hotel location was not very far from the city center but very quiet. the only drawback of the hotel stay was the internet access. they only provide complementary internet coupons which worth 50 MB each. the internet was very ok for checking email or short internet surfing, but not good enough for internet video talk.

Good location, near CBD, shopping, etc.”

We were givin a famil apartment type room that was really great and felt at home, plenty of space for more persons comfortable and clean. Shopping and many restaraunts withing walking district and CBD.

This hotel was super comfort for me, it's was clean and well facilities too. free wifi, and friendly staff.

great location, warm room and great service”

they had parking available and free laundry service with dryer. really big family rooms with plenty of space. great value for money. they even let us check out late as they had availability that day.
