Comfortable, clean room and exceptional staff.”

We enjoyed our stay here to hike the Tongariro Crossing. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Be mindful of the check-in hours of this location. The spa was not working when we stayed but the laundry was helpful at $4/load. We booked bus service with National Park Shuttles, but ended up taking Adventure Lodge shuttle since they are partners - just FYI. If staying to do the hike, be sure to stay at least two nights.

The Best Place to Stay in the National Park Village!”

If you are looking for an all round accommodation experience, which is very well priced and adds real value, the Adventure Lodge & Motel is the place to be. The staff here go out of their way to ensure all of your needs are met. A very warm and cosy environment with a comfortable bed! I didn't actually go on the Tongariro Crossing, but on my bucket list and of course I'll be staying at the Adventure Lodge & Motel.

Very comfortable”

The lodge is just a short drive to Tongariro crossing trailhead. The hotel offers round trip bus service at a reasonable rate for start and end of crossing. The rooms are basic and a bit dated, but large enough and clean. The walls are thin but it seems the guests are very considerate to their neighbors so we slept fine. Can’t say enough about how helpful the staff is here to ensure you have a pleasant stay.

The pros definitely outweighed the cons. Cleanliness was perfect, and it was an enjoyable stay for pre and post Tongariro Alpine Crossing! The drying room was very helpful in keeping our things dry and clean. We also tried out the private spa room, a good time to relax. The only con would be the shuttle for Tongariro is slightly expensive, hence we chose another vendor's shuttle service.

Clean and great stay before Tongariro Crossing Hike”

We stayed for the night before and after our Tongariro Crossing Hike. Our room was clean and very comfortable. They are addressing the unsound proof walls. Well organised drop off and pick up from the crossing hike. The showers were hot and powerful. Well equipped kitchen area if you ant to self cater but also places to eat out locally. Breakfast were yummy! Stars at night were amazing.

Delightful Experience”

Owners made us feel welcome and made our stay memorable. Location is close to National Park trails, water falls and historical train station that has been converted to a nice resturant. The cozy evening fire at the lodge was a nice gathering place to mix with others. Exceeded our expectations, would stay there again!! - Travelers from Texas.

Let down”

We booked this motel for the Tongariro crossing. The main reason for choosing it was to be near the walk and because they said you could get breakfast in the morning (important before the all day walk) and a packed lunch for the walk (important on an all day walk). I emailed 4 days ahead of arriving to book the breakfast and packed lunch only to be told they couldn't provide either, due to staff shortages! We were tourists, had a long drive to Tongariro the night before the walk and did not want to keep buy food a day ahead and keep it in a hot car. The transport to the start of the walk was at 7am the next day (booked for us by the owners) so it was going to be very inconvenient/difficult to get food the morning of the walk. Fortunately, the Tongariro Crossing Lodge 2 doors away, stepped in and provided us with a lovely breakfast and packed lunch - on virtually no notice at all. It was also galling to see the Adventure lodge and motel give other people packed lunches on the bus.

A good choice for hikers”

The best part of staying at the Adventure Lodge is enjoying the service of the helpful and dedicated staff. They change hats several times a day as they move from front desk to kitchen to transport vans. The restaurant hours are limited, so inform them of your order in advance. It's probably your best bet for breakfast, especially if you are heading out onto the trails, but I'd recommend a walk to Schnapps or the Station at dinnertime for variety. The hotel provides trail transport for a fee and complimentary shuttle to/from the rail station. The lodge room is very nice when they get the fireplace going. It's a terrific spot to get to know your fellow hikers. The rooms are modest but comfortable. Some have en-suite facilities while others share large bath/shower rooms.

Gillian and John Visser they are so friendly and very kind. Love to stay there every time when we go skiing or walk Tongariro Crossing. So enjoying the different lifestyle there!

Handy with everything you need”

Perfect location for doing the Tongariro Crossing. Comfortable room with adequate kitchenette. Didn't use the bigger kitchen area but good to have the option if we had needed to. .Everything clean, and a nice surprise to come back to the beds made. Shower great and the Spa was amazing after the walk.

Best place for the crossing”

It is a really good place if you plan to do the crossing, they provide shuttle from the hotel to starting point and pick you up at the end point back to hotel when you are exhausted (it costs, but everywhere cost the same price). Besides, it provides breakfast which is free and it is a full breakfast! The only downside was a bit noisy in the early morning when everyone got up for the crossing.

Pros: Staff were very friendly/ helpful, lots of facilities to cook with in kitchen, quaint saloon style lodge with character! Free DVDs to hire, charger/ cords to borrow, hot tub available (for booking), transport (at additional cost) with knowledgeable driver re the crossing, close to local shops. Cons: we were on the second level of the lodge and there was no toilet on this level (not good for someone needing toilet frequently), kitchen was too far away from our room (had to walk downstairs and then outside to access kitchen). Kitchen also needed more attention from staff (bin wasn’t emptied in the few days we were there) and fridge needs more regular emptying out as there was still food leftover from previous travellers which had gone off.

Excellent value and helpful service”

Warm, cozy room for two after a long day tramping, followed by a hot tub pool to ease muscle aches and pains. Super friendly and helpful service and advice from owners John and Jill with transport to and from the walks. Definitely returning to this motel.

Excellent base for walking/ trekking/ sightseeing”

The room was very comfortable and spacious. DVDs were free to borrow. The lodge owners were very helpful and gave loads of useful information and maps of the surrounding area. A brilliant stay!

fantastic value for money”

We were stoked. the lodge was always warm, staff were very friendly and willing to help. It was crazy cheap value for money. Definitely would stay again, the only issue is the layout if you're staying on the cheap is a bit annoying as you have to go outside to get to the kitchen, but that is a minor inconvenience next to all the service, warmth, and just great atoms you get in return for such a low price. We would definitely stay here again.

Perfect for the mountains”

You cannot get a better welcome than one by Gillian. She is wonderful, direct, and very helpful. What a beautiful soul! As other people pointed out, sound transmission between units is quite noticeable, but a known issue by management. Most people are respectful of that and it’s managed fine. The accommodations are as expected for mountain lodging, with a very clean and nice bathroom. Nice hot showers and good water pressure. I would stay here again.
