Exceptional”

I stayed 2 nights in the Hamerkop room. Pretty much everything was exceptional. Quiet neighborhood location with awesome view of the mountains. And it's just a stone's throw from beautiful Bontebok National Park. Room was very clean and well-appointed. Breakfast was over-the-top, with so many well-prepared items to choose from and a view of the mountains from the outdoor patio. Staff and service were exceptional. They went out of their way to get me a dinner reservation at a local restaurant on extremely short notice on Christmas day when almost everything was closed. And they remedied the one glitch I experienced (getting 'parked in' in the gated parking lot) very expeditiously. I highly recommend Aan de Oever and will seek to stay there again if I return to the Swellendam area.

Exceptional”

Aan de Oever Guesthouse exceeded our expectations. It was originally chosen as a stopover as the driving distance otherwise would have been too long but on any future visit to this part of South Africa we would definitely go back to it. It is a beautiful place in fabulous surroundings with a lovely pool and fantastic staff. From the moment of booking to leaving Aan de Oever everything was handled very efficiently and courteously and they went out of their way to make our stay special. Just one example: our filthy car was washed before we left without us having asked for it. Breakfast was great and everybody was very hospitable . We had a lovely room with a terrace overlooking the gardens and the mountains . My sister and I loved it and were sad that our timetable did not allow us to stay another night. Fantastic Service, one of the best I've experienced. ”

From the moment we arrived at Aan De Oever, we were greeted by the super friendly lady who runs the place, who had surprised us with roses on our beds (it was our anniversary). The staff were incredibly friendly and generous with their time and smiles. Even went so far as to voluntarily wash our car! THanks Vuyo! My car had a flat tire on the morning we were leaving, and they helped me change the wheel, and made some calls to help me even more. It was such a welcomed friendly time there - please do go !!

Beautiful gem in a beautiful town”

We had a wonderful stay at Aan de Oever. For a family with young children we were very comfortable and the room size was large with many little extras like earbuds and cotton wool pads. Loved that there were towels for the pools as well. Beds were super comfy and the views of the river and surrounds from the communal pool and braai area were breathtaking.

Great stay”

We spent one night in Swellendam on our way to CT and were pleasantly surprised. We had a very warm welcome, a room (Guinea fowl) equipped with everything we could possibly want or ask for (fridge, hairdryer, peaceful sleep, little welcome sherry....), especially nice was the big bathroom with two showers. Also in walking distance you have a number of restaurants and a supermarket, respectively little shopping center just around the corner. Not to mention the beautiful garden with all the birds to watch and lekker breakfast which we enjoyed right next to the pool. Beautiful, personal touch as well having fresh flowers everywhere and some sweet little muffins for our onward journey. Only the mattresses in our room were a bit firm for our liking, apart from that we had a marvelous experience and will be happily back.

Beautiful Setting ans Well Run Guest House”

We had a delightful stay for two nights. Beautiful views and walking distance to restaurants and tourist sites. Everyone was super helpful and friendly and the rooms were extremely well fitted and presented. My only recommendation for improvement would be to have a guest lounge with a fire and a TV for the chilly evenings. I would unreservedly recommend this guest house to anyone visiting Swellendam.

Another amazing stay”

I stay here regularly when traveling between Cape Town and Knysna and it is a really great stop-over. The setting is wonderful with the river at the end of the lovely garden, which is full of all sorts of birds. It is also a great position for walking to various historical sites and to some of the best restaurants in Swellendam. The breakfast is excellent and everybody who works there is exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Best Guesthouse in Town”

Very well appointed, all the necessary items you'd need or want in a guesthouse. Very spacious and comfortable room and great breakfast. The best omelette I've had in a longtime. Will definitely go back to Aan De Oewer.

A most enjoyable stay despite our initial reservations of Swellendam. ”

The location was perfect for our weekend getaway. The accommodation was clean , staff welcoming and room adequately furnished. The choice of a hot or cold breakfast or both was superb. The cherry on the top was when we returned from breakfast to find that our car had been washed. Thank you to the team at Aan De Ooever for making our weekend getaway special.

Swellandam is a great place for a stay and this guesthouse is highly recommended. Spotlessly clean, nicely furnished and fab gardens by river with 2 pools. Breakfast was the best we've had and Vera on reception was a star when we had a flat tyre, ringing ahead for us and helping us get it fixed. Thank you Vera for your help it was much appreciated !!

Welcoming guesthouse”

A wonderful and friendly guesthouse. My room was comfortable with everything I needed. DSTV, electric blanket and a nice bottle of wine. The reception was very friendly and I can highly recommend this guesthouse.

Lovely guesthouse”

We stayed here for just one night in the superb Barn Owl Room. It seems they've thought of everything and the room, bathroom area (it's in the same room but nicely done) and the rest of the place, are all beautifully appointed. They have created a useful little booklet with photos to guide you round the historical buildings of the town, It also felt very secure with off road parking. Highly recommended.

Excellent and good value”

A great stay. Choose this over the many overrated guesthouses in this area. Great staff and a fantastic location, relaxing atmosphere. Superb and we'll be back there.

Service Excellence, Attention to Detail, Peace and Tranquility”

We booked for one night originally last minute and ended up staying 4 nights. We were looking for for somewhere just to relax having traveled for a few days. It is difficult to remember that this is a guest house, because the service and attention to detail just exceeds many 6 and even 7 star hotels that we have staid in. Simply nothing is too much trouble and service was always warm sincere, thoughtful and carried out with the minimum of fuss.We were in a basic room,(all that was left for 3 nights), which was well equipped and full of little service touches (flowers, chocolates, presentation of the bed, bathroom and then into a self catering chalet for the last night, which was exceptional, and very spacious. The owners, management and staff all care about your every need (without imposing themselves). Thank you all very much indeed.

Country value & friendly”

Very friendly staff and a great breakfast. Really great value for money. Accommodation is clean. Cannot fault the guesthouse. Highly recommended.

All in all fine with one minor flaw”

When we arrived we got an upgrade from a double room to a family room which was really generous. It was huge and our 11 months old baby as well as we felt very comfortable there. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic! The only minor flaw was: I thought that the family room had a kitchenette or a microwave which it didn’t. So I did not know how to warm up the milk for the baby. After calling the on-call manager (it was after 7 pm) she, Emily (?), said all the kitchen staff was gone and there is nothing she can do. She could have left it there or pointed us to the next restaurant (all within max 500m) she decided to tell us: „maybe you can light up a candle and boil the milk...“ I thought that answer was so rude. The next day I wanted to address this directly to the reception staff but I got a bad cold and was just happy to sit somewhere without talking to anyone. As this is just a minor flaw in the overall experience I would still recommend this place (just not for stays with baby)

Beautiful place with amazing views and friendly service”

We had the chance to be upgraded to a superb large Suite, with views on the mountains and patio outside... swimming pool next to the ricer, beautiful settings, great breakfast and the team was welcoming and very friendly! We didn’t know this little town, very well kept with a choice of historic buildings, very nice restaurants and outside bars and the whole experience was great! Definitely would recommend!

We were incredibly surprised by this accommodation. The staff, the swimming pool, the exceptional breakfast, the huge room, etc. It was our best stay in the whole South Africa!
